ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

Is it true that Bayer once owned the trademark to
"Heroin"?

Yes. The German drug manufacturer sold "Heroin," a
semi-synthetic morphine derivative, to dozens of
countries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries. Bayer claimed the drug was an effective
treatment for a variety of respiratory ailments,
including bronchitis, tuberculosis, and asthma. Heroin
was marketed by Bayer as "the sedative for coughs." The
medical profession, far from being bothered by the
drug, embraced it and even prescribed it to babies to
treat colic. Bayer halted production of heroin in 1913,
after doctors finally realized the drug was highly
addictive.

Where did Bayer get the name "Heroin"?

Believe it or not, Heroin is named after the German
word for "hero," - "heroisch."

Paid music Web downloads triple in first half

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - While U.S. album sales are off 7
percent year-to-date, songs sold over the Web through paid
downloads have tripled in the first half of the year, music
tracker Nielsen SoundScan said on Tuesday.

Internet users in the U.S. downloaded 158 million individual
songs from services like Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes during
the first half of the year, compared with 55 million in the
year-ago period, SoundScan said.

U.S. album sales, including downloads, fell 2.5 percent to
301.2 million units in the first half from 309 million a
year earlier. Those figures included downloaded tracks
equivalent to about 17.6 million albums this year and 6
million last year.

Sales of albums, excluding these new digital formats, fell 7
percent to 282.6 million units.

Single-song downloads now represent 6 percent of overall
music sales, compared with less than 2 percent a year ago,
according to the data.

The recording industry has been embroiled in a fierce battle
against online piracy over peer-to-peer networks, recently
scoring a big victory with a Supreme Court ruling that found
such networks could be held liable for piracy if they
encourage unauthorized copying of music or other content.

Who Controls You?
You Or Your Stress: MAKE It Your Decision
PART 3 of 4

It's interesting to see what happens when people realize
that you have values to guide you. First they want to get
you to change your mind. When they realize that you won't,
they usually leave you alone. Once people discover that
you stand up for yourself: that you are your own person,
they begin to respect you. Still later, you may realize
that you have become a role model. Your influence then
rests in the fact you are aware of this, but don't openly
acknowledge it. Your behavior now portrays leadership
and strength, and invites trust.

One of the reasons people get trained in emergency
measures is that once you are proficient in something,
you will do it effectively when the situation arises. It's the
same here. Once you have incorporated your values into
your life skills, you won't need any prodding to make a
decision that fits your belief system: it's automatic.

There are two values or characteristics, that might be
highlighted, and they may well be related. One is the
area of taking responsibility for all of your own actions,
BUT for no one else. The other is the concept of not
criticizing anyone. The benefits of practicing each are
enormous! When you adopt this posture, you find
tremendous relief. Assume that everyone is always
doing their best…and that might not be perfect for the
need, but it IS their best.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

"Yes. It is my pleasure to 'officially' unite
two who are in love. It's value lies in public
recognition of the union. It makes all know of the
relationship and especially the two who wed. It
lends an air of formality and responsibility to
the whole thing."

"Tim Henry has picked himself a very lovely
young woman."

"He certainly has. And she will be an asset
to our cause. She will be a mighty help to
mankind. And she likes the work."

"Tim does too. He comes from good stock. Sam
and Alewka have done a good job with their
children."

"They certainly have, and so have you with
Sonora and Hemno. You two set yourselves apart
early. It was in that training you gave them that
they were able come to higher law. You have done a
good job with your kids too."

"Thank you, Sien."

"Have you eaten? Alewka has done a terrific
job of the food."

"No. I think I'll move over there now. You?"

"Yes, I just ate. We are getting close to the
time for the ceremony, so don't be long." Sien
figured it was about an hour to go before the
ceremony would begin. He looked around and found
everyone occupied. No one appeared to be looking
at their watches. He knew he had yet to wait for
the State official who was supposed to ensure all
was done according to State law. Sien expected the
man to be there a half hour early, to advise him
plus Tim and Sharon of what was expected.

Sharon had been moving about within the group.
It had been a long while since she was this busy.
She wanted to make sure she spoke with everyone,
those that lived by higher law because she really
enjoyed their company, and those who did not to
ensure they were comfortable and enjoying
themselves.

"Hi Mary, Brock. It is good to see you here. I
hope you are enjoying yourselves, mixing and all
that?"

"We are, Sharon, thank you. I was ill for a
while but that nice man, Sien, came over and
helped me out."

"He is nice, isn't he? He is the man who first
helped Eloise. She was in South America with David
on that crazy trip the pair of them decided to
take. I don't know if I would have had the courage
to go. But I am sure glad she did. She has made a
big difference in the lives of most of the people
you see here today, including mine."

"How so, Sharon?"

"It is Eloise who first learned higher law.
She brought it back to her family, meaning Tim,
and from there it has spread. Look at the
Strikers, the Whites, the Sparks. All of them owe
their living by higher law to Eloise. Me too."

"I thought you might be one of them. I
couldn't see Tim Henry marrying you otherwise."

"Gee, thanks."

"Sharon, honey, I didn't mean that. I meant
that Tim is a wise man and would wait for you
until the pair of you were equally yoked. Right?"

"Yes, that is right. That is exactly what he
did."

"That is what is best. I can feel you
broadcasting love. That was my problem. Sien set
it up so I would only take on what I could handle.
That is what made me feel better. I like your
friends, Sharon. They are all fine people. Thank
you for having us here. This is a huge wedding. I
think there must be 300 to 400 people here."

"Around there. You're right."

"Are you nervous?"

"Only in the sense that Tim and I have wanted
this day to come for a long time. Now that it is
here it will change our lives. But we both expect
it will be for the better."

"Have you spoken of having children?"

"You bet. We both want kids and we will.
However, we have been so fortunate in our lives we
want to spend some time helping others before we
settle into a family. Living by higher law makes
that a lot easier."

"I imagine it does. I'm glad you want kids. I
can tell you they sure add meaning to our lives."

"I know. That's what we think, too. Did you
know that Sien is the man who will be conducting
the wedding? I see him gathering some folk about
him now. I think I best get over there. Enjoy."

With that Sharon left Mary and Brock and made
her way over to Sien's side. Tim was there and the
Henrys were there as well as her Mom and Dad. They
were all listening to a newcomer, the State
representative, a Justice of the Peace.

He was explaining the requirements he wanted
to see, and that following the ceremony itself he
wanted Tim and Sharon to sign some documents, and
he wanted the best man and the maid of honor to
witness the signatures. Tim and Sharon found those
people and set it all up. It was time for the
ceremony to begin.

HA! HA! HA!

A vampire bat came flapping in from the night covered in
fresh blood and parked himself on the roof of the cave to
get some sleep.

Pretty soon all the other bats smelled the blood and began
hassling him about where he got it. He told them to knock it
off and let him get some sleep but they persisted in
hassling him to no end until finally he gave in.

"OK!" he said with exasperation, "follow me," and he flew
out of the cave with hundreds of bats following close behind
him.

Down through the valley they went, across the river and into
the deep forest. Finally he slowed down and all the other
bats excitedly gathered around him.

"Do you see that tree over there?" he asked.

"Yes, yes, yes!" the bats all screamed in a frenzy.

"Good," said the first bat, "Because I DIDN'T!"
