Why don't women have Adam's apples?
How did the Adam's apple get its name?

--------------
How long have eyeglasses been around?
Far longer than you would imagine. The Italian inventor
Salvino D'Armate is believed to have been the first to
develop eyeglasses, sometime around 1284. He wasn't the
first to experiment with lenses to improve vision,
though. As far back as 1000 AD, an unknown inventor
developed a "reading stone," which was a glass sphere
that was laid on top of material to be read to magnify
the letters. Even earlier, the Roman tragedian Seneca
(born in 4 BC), was said to have read all the books in
Rome by reading them through a glass globe of water to
magnify the letters.
What exactly is an Adam's apple?
It's the popular name for that lump you often see in
men's necks, especially when they swallow. What you're
really looking at is a bulge in the larynx, or voice
box, made of cartilage. In medical terms, the Adam's
apple is called a thyroid cartilage, because it's
located right above the thyroid gland.

Are Things Really What They Seem?
A man left for work one Friday afternoon. But it was payday,
so instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend
partying with the boys and spending his entire pay check.
When he finally appeared at home on Sunday night, he was
confronted by his angry wife and was barraged for nearly two
hours with a tirade befitting his actions. Finally his wife
stopped the nagging and said to him, "How would you like it
if you didn't see me for two or three days?" He replied,
"That would be fine with me."
Monday went by and he didn't see his wife. Tuesday and
Wednesday came and went with the same results. But on
Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could
see her a little out of the corner of his left eye.
I get a kick out of the way some of these jokes lead you
down a path to believe something then suddenly reveal they
were talking of something else.
Life is a lot like that. You know, showing you one thing
when really something different is happening. So
much of our lives, and the wonder thereof, lies in our
interpretation of what our senses present to us.
Are Things Really What They Seem?
I like to speak ot the story Maxwell Maltz tells in his book
Psycho-Cybernetics. There he speaks of a couple walking
along a mountain path and out from behind a tree comes a man
dressed in a bear costume. The couple flee in fear.
Their interpretation of what their senses presented them, in
this case their eyesight, was that the thing on the path was
a real bear and instantly the fight/flight reaction went to
work.
While this may be an extreme example it happens to all of us
every day. Our interpretation of what our senses give us is
so much based on what we want, we often forget to have a
look at what is real.
It can happen easily to an internet marketer. They can be
working away for a year, two years and make no money. Doing
so requires full knowledge of success principles. They are
getting tired and seriously thinking of quitting. What they
see is only more and more of the "same old same old".
Who wouldn't be discouraged? Yet, think. Eighty percent or
more of your rewards will come in the last twenty percent or
less of your efforts. Think about that.
Knowing that, is it any wonder it is necessary to dwell on
the principles of success? Is it any wonder we must know,
deeply, in the core of our being, the laws that will bring
success, in spite of what we see?
Is it any wonder why we must learn to really see what our
senses are giving us?
Success, nearly always, comes wrapped up in a package that
looks like failure. It is for you to interpret correctly and
your "keep on keepin' on" will turn it into success.
So the next time you think of quitting, ask yourself ...

Who Controls You?
You Or Your Stress: MAKE It Your Decision
PART 4 of 4
This removes a lot of your stress. This means you no
longer have to check up on the other person. You don't
have to have a "replacement solution", for which you may
be criticized later on. Until people really believe that you
mean what you say, they will probably still want to pass
along the blame for their poor judgement to you. However
once you are recognized as making only decisions for
yourself, this will cease. A gentle reminder that you are
can no longer be held responsible for their behavior or
actions may be necessary until they "get it". In the same
vein, not criticizing or giving unasked-for advice works
the same way. Only when people really seek out your
help, will you need to think about their situation.
As you know, stress causes many, many illnesses to
get worse, so any way to reduce this problem should
be considered and undertaken seriously. It may well
save your life.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Sien had quietly gathered the wedding party
together. He told them all what he wanted done and
they all understood.
The children had all been gathered from their
swimming and their play and brought to the cabin,
washed and cleaned and prepared to watch the
ceremony.
Sien sent out commands, by thought, to all
present. All understood and followed.
With everyone in position, at the cabin, Sien
turned and began to walk the sidewalk, toward the
lake. Behind him was Tim, then his best man Tom
and attendant, Billy Hendricks. Then came the
brides maids, Eloise and Sharon's sister, Mamie.
Next in line were the parents, but for Bob
Smithson. The wedding guests were next, all 300 to
400 of them.
Sien led them down to the lake and had ushers
spread the guests out along the lake shore about
three deep. He continued out onto the water for
about 50 feet, then turned.
The wedding party followed. The only one who
did not live by higher law was Mamie. She held
Eloise's hand and all was well. TIm and his
attendants stood aside and faced the crowd as did
the brides maids.
Sien nodded to Bob Smithson and he began
walking arm in arm with his daughter, Sharon,
toward Sien. Suddenly there was music everywhere.
It was the most beautiful of music as if angelic
in nature. All was in harmony and the beauty of
the occasion was breathtaking. The crowd was
mesmerized.
Bob Smithson had a lump in his throat big
enough to choke a horse. His heart was beating a
mile a minute. He wasn't sure he wanted to do
this, giving his daughter away. He loved her so
intensely right at this moment. He cherished her
and really was terribly proud of her.
"It's okay, Daddy. I love you too. All will be
well." These were the thoughts that came into
Bob's head as they walked. He looked at Sharon.
She smiled.
They continued their walk. When they arrived
at the shore they simply continued out onto the
water. Bob was hardly even aware of what he was
doing. He could remember no time in his life when
his emotions were so intense. They all but
overwhelmed him. His love for his daughter was
overpowering. He knew this is what fathers do, but
it was still intense.
Slowly, the walked out onto the water. There
was a murmur from the guests that did not live by
higher law. They had never seen this kind of thing
before and they most certainly did not expect Bob
Smithson to be able to do that walk. They were all
surprised. It was only the love being broadcast by
all those around them that kept them here. It
allowed them to feel safe.
Each step was getting closer. Bob could see
Tim smiling as they approached. Bob was proud of
Tim, too. Tim had proven to be a highly honorable
man and Bob was proud that Sharon would choose
such a man.
Tears began to form in Bob's eyes. The closer
he got to his destination the more difficult it
was for him to see. Finally he was there, Sharon
still on his arm.
Sien spoke, softly, but loud enough that it
brought Bob back to the moment.
"Who gives this woman to be wed to this man?"
"I do, her Father." Bob took Sharon's hand and
placed it into Tim's. He could do nothing more.
That act emblazoned itself onto Bob Smithson's
mind forever. He had given his daughter away. It
permanently changed his life.
Bob turned and began walking toward Harriett.
The sparks flew between Tim and Sharon. Their
love for each other was so strong it showed to all
the world.
Sien held up his hands, palms facing the crowd
of onlookers. He began to speak. "It is a rare and
wonderful privilege when we can participate in a
ceremony that tells us all a man and a woman, each
of whom lives by higher law, want to spend the
rest of their lives together in wedlock. It is a
union that makes the heavens want to sing aloud.
Before we begin, is there any man or woman
here who knows why these two should not be wed?"
Sien waited for a long time, or so it seemed.
Then he proceeded with the rest of the ceremony.
When he had concluded his part, which part was
sent unto every mind present, he directed Tim,
Sharon and the wedding party over to the pier on
which sat the State representative. There they
signed the documents required and then returned to
Sien.
They took their positions in front of him as
before. This was the time Sien was going to make
the announcement, but instead he stepped aside and
went down on one knee facing the same direction as
the wedding party.

HA! HA! HA!
The golfing world is celebrating a new invention that
promises to revolutionize the sport. The new device that is
receiving so much attention is called the 'bee nut.' It is a
fastening attachment that allows players to adjust the heads
on their clubs to any angle, saving the need to carry a
bagful of clubs. Thus, for example, a player can use the
same club to putt or get out of the sand trap.
Golf clubs with this modification are selling quickly, and
players are taking golfing picnics, so they can try their
new 'bee-nut putter sand wedge.' (Say it fast)
