Why did the first American woman ever to win a "gold"
(first-place) medal at the Olympics die without knowing
she'd done it?
The 1900 Olympics in Paris were so poorly organized that
many contestants didn't even know they were participating in
Olympic games. A major part of the problem was that other
sporting events were held in connection with the Olympics.
Also, the 1900 games were held over a period of six months,
unlike other Olympics where the games occurred over a
shorter period. Confusion reigned. American art student
Margaret Abbott entered a nine-hole "International Ladies'
Golf Tournament" on a lark. She won. Nothing she saw
identified the event as an Olympic event. It wasn't until
two decades after she died that historians identified her as
the first female American "gold" medalist.
Why were crescent moons carved on outhouse doors?
One reason for carving ANYTHING on an outhouse door was to
let in a little light and air. But why a crescent moon?
Actually, the moon was not the only symbol used. Because
many people in the days of outhouses couldn't read, symbols
were used to differentiate outhouses for men from outhouses
for women. The moon, a typically female symbol, identified
outhouses for women. For men, a star or sun was typically

Lifetime Study: Women Rule DVR Domain

While anecdotal evidence suggests that men are more likely
to monopolize the remote, a new study suggests that women
are in the driver’s seat when it comes to using a digital
video recorder.
In a national survey of 1,000 DVR users divided equally by
sex, 48 percent of married women say the decision to
purchase a DVR was their own, while 55 percent of the wives
claim they understood how to interface with their unit’s
myriad features better than their husbands.
The study, which was commissioned by Lifetime, offered
“dramatic and counterintuitive results,” said Tim Brooks,
the network’s senior vp of research. Of key interest to
advertisers is the discovery that women are more likely to
stop fast forwarding through commercials if a brand or
product captures their attention.
While 99 percent of women say they use their DVRs to zap
through commercial spots, 76 percent reported that they
stopped for ads that are entertaining or relevant to their
own interests. Women are also more likely to pause for TV
and movie promos.
“DVRs give them a mechanism to find commercials that are
relevant, and that’s a big message,” Brooks said. “It’s not
that people don’t want commercials, it’s irrelevant
interruptions that turn them off.”
A full 94 percent of those who said they fast forwarded
commercials said they could still recognize brands and
products as they zapped through the spots.
A major selling point for women was the ease with which they
can interact with their DVRs, Brooks said, adding that the
research suggests that cable operators wishing to drive DVR
usage might want to consider comparing the devices to a
familiar (and frustrating) technology in common use.
“Three-quarters of the women surveyed said that the reason
they fell in love with DVR is that they are extremely
intuitive and much easier than a VCR,” Brooks said. “Rather
than selling DVRs as techie tools and having the marketing
message come from the engineering department, [operators]
need to simplify” their DVR pitches.
Overall, 98 percent of the women surveyed said they would
recommend DVR to a friend, and 94 percent said the service
was “worth the cost.”

Actually, the man's response was not singular.
Many of those who did not live by higher law were
now affected by the events of the day. Indeed some
were arguing that it was not Jesus who had
appeared unto them.
Those who were doing the arguing were those
who were staunch church members in their own
churches. According to them there was absolutely
no possible way that could have been Jesus. After
all their church had taught them this kind of
thing does not happen these days.
These are the same people who, in the 1940s
and 1950s stated categorically that man would
never get to the moon. Today the say, "Oh yeah but
that is because science has progressed to that
point where we can now do that." These people
never give a thought that some are progressed to a
point to where Jesus can attend a wedding. To them
that is not only impossible but can never happen.
Too bad, for their ignorance costs them much. Of
course power, control and all other forms of
handling man is by money, right?
Yet others, still visibly shaken, were not so
certain it wasn't Jesus. Some wanted to really
believe. They were on the verge of discovering
that the church was not delivering unto them the
correct message. They were seriously thinking on
the speech given by Jesus.
Others had tears in their eyes for having had
the privilege of seeing the man they have
worshipped for a lifetime. But they had not
thought of seeing him in this light. They are
expecting him to arrive and suddenly all of life
will be without strife, without needs, all peace
and love. Somehow the God they worship is going to
cause all this to happen without them having to
make one change within themselves. Suddenly they
will no longer hate their boss, or their neighbor
or this religion or that religion.
And then there was Bob Smithson who, having
come back up to the cabin and recovered a little
for his highly charged emotions was suddenly faced
with the fact that he was using higher law to
accomplish a few things.
Sam Henry walked up to him immediately because
he could see the thoughts rolling around in Bob's
head. "Got you confused has it?"
"Sam. There has been so much happen today I
can hardly take it all in. How are you?"
"I'm fine, Bob. May I make a suggestion?"
"Yes, on what?"
"On all the things that happened today, and on
the fact that you have done some things by higher
law."
"Yes, Sam, please."
"Today you have had a glimpse of what life can
be like living by higher law. In fact you have
done some things using the law. Yet, there are now
doubts creeping into your mind. That is the normal
process of man. He always wants to revert back to
that which he knows. So, now, you must make a
decision, Bob. You must decide to carry on into
higher law or you will go back to your old life.
It is a decision you must make here and now. If
you decide to make the decision to go the way
Sharon has gone then I will be happy to help you.
If you go back you will not require my help. But
it is a decision."
"Sam, it is all so confusing. I am not sure
which way I want to go. Thank you for you offer
for assistance. I will let you know."
Sam knew then and there that Bob would revert
back to his old life. He would try, now and then,
to use higher law but his mind would not only be
filled with doubt and therefore cause failure,
that failure would only produce more evidence to
Bob that higher law is only for some, and not him.
That is the way the human mind works. When you
have a little bit of knowledge and you try, but
fail, then you draw the conclusion it won't work.
One never seems to summon up the courage to
understand that one must follow some rules and
that the only reason for failure is that you
haven't yet completed the training.
This training is not to be trifled with any
more than a gun is to be trifled with in the hands
of a novice. Just like the gun example, there is
no in between. It fires or it does not fire.
Higher law works when you know. If you don't know,
it will not ever work for you. The law is that you
must believe unequivocally, without reservation.
You will then reap the rewards of the law.
Those who fail to be fully trained will be no
more successful than placing yourself in the
cockpit of an aircraft and calling yourself a
pilot. In both cases training and knowledge is
required or failure is the result. In the case of
higher law you must know so solidly there is never
any doubt of the outcome. That is the rule Jesus
gave you in Matthew 21: v21 & 22.
