Which state in the US has the most shoreline?

Where did Gypsies originate?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What's the difference between a pond and a lake?

A pond is smaller and more shallow than a lake. But just HOW
small it must be to be a pond and not a lake is disputed.
According to some, a pond is a body of water under 10 acres
(others say less then TWO acres) with a shoreline with
emergent vegetation. Others say a pond is any body of water
shallow enough to support rooted plants. Many times, plants
grow all the way across a shallow pond. A lake, then, is too
deep to support rooted plants except near the shore. Some
lakes are big enough to produce waves (whereas ponds have
little water movement). But what constitutes a lake in
Minnesota? According to the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources, a "lake is not classified by size or depth as
some may suggest." A lake may be defined as an enclosed
basin filled or partly filled with water. In general, a lake
is an "area of open, relatively deep water that is large
enough to produce a wave-swept shore."

WHY does Minnesota have so many lakes?

Local legend claims that the thousands of lakes in Minnesota
formed in the footprints of Paul Bunyan's massive blue ox,
Babe. Science has another theory: Many of the lakes formed
during the Ice Age when glaciers moved back and forth across
the state. Large ice fragments sometimes became buried under
layers of dirt. Eventually, the buried ice would melt and
the dirt would collapse leaving holes in the ground that
filled with water to become lakes. Areas of Minnesota where
a lot of lakes occur may mark the edge of an ice sheet!

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

It's The Only Way I Know!

The new family in the neighborhood overslept and the
six-year-old daughter missed her school bus. The father,
though late for work, agreed to drive her if she'd direct
him to the school.

They rode several blocks before she told him to turn the
first time, several more before she indicated another turn.
This went on for 20 minutes -- yet when they finally reached
the school, it proved to be only a short distance from their
home.

Asked why she'd led the father over such a circuitous route,
the child explained,

"That's the way the school bus goes, and it's the only way I
know."

Those words make me cry. "It's the only way I know"

Are we all living our lives "because it's the only way we
know"?

You mean to tell me we are held back from living by higher
law because of - "It's the only way we know?"

Are you further trying to tell me that we are taught that
way, and that by our parents.teachers and kids of the time,
and therefore it must be right, because everybody is doing
it?

Oh! My! How thankful I am there were men like Edison, Ford,
Firestone, men who didn't believe they had to live within
the big box - "it's the only way I know".

Are you advancing the cause by failing to look outside "your
box"? I don't mean you have to tear around and rebuild the
entire world. However, you can make subtle changes to "your
world" that will benefit you enormously when you look
outside "your box".

While living within the box may be comfortable it stimulates
no growth. "Who needs growth? you ask. I respond with
another question. "What happens to plants when they stop
growing? And another question, "What happens to a business
when it stops growing? And, yes, another question, "What
happens to you when you stop growing?

Some feel that living outside the box is hard work, takes
effort, is very uncomfortable as seems to be the way with
new things. Yet, it need not be traumatic. Try little
extensions of yourself everyday, not big ones. If you
performed or did one little thing everyday that was outside
your "norm" you would have a safe, comfortable, exciting,
growing life.

Do not invite failure, death and disaster because of

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 4 of 31

Before I enter into the substantive area of this
booklet, I feel it will be useful to provide some
background information about dental disease and offer
some insights into why it’s role in overall health is
often been overlooked.

Dental Disease What is commonly referred to as dental
disease is actually two separate diseases: tooth decay
and gum disease. You can have one without the other or
both simultaneously. The terms “gum disease” and
“periodontal disease” are often used interchangeably,
even though periodontal disease is much more
destructive form of the disease. Technically, gum
disease is broken down into two categories: gingivitis,
the initial and milder form of gum disease, and
periodontitis, the more advanced and serious form that
has infected both the soft tissue and the surrounding
bone.

While the basic cause of tooth decay and gum disease is
poor oral hygiene (due to a lack of patient education
and/or motivation) other factors are involved. Diet,
smoking, vitamin deficiency, and toxic substances such
as mercury can also contribute to dental disease. Of
the two diseases, gum disease, especially in its most
advanced form, is the most harmful to general health.

Certainly, tooth decay can affect one’s health. It can
prevent proper chewing and thereby affect digestion. It
can also cause tooth loss, again affecting digestion.
Clearly, it can contribute to systemic health problems,
but its effects on overall health are considerably less
than the effects of gum disease.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"I hope so. It is sure nice to have all those
people come. They are from all over the globe and
that they would take time out to come to our
wedding was wonderful."

"They hold a lot of respect for your family,
Tim. They came because of that and because they
all like to get together like this."

"I guess so."

He reached over and drew her to him. "I love
you. I'm glad you decided to marry me."

She kissed him, deeply.

They were beginning to relax and becoming
conscious of each other.

They chatted for another hour. The warmth, the
champagne, the noises, all were becoming hypnotic.
The more they touched each other the more
progressive they were becoming. The heat and lust
of the new relationship was setting in and this
time they both knew there were no limitations.
They knew they were going to come together for the
first time.

Tim rose and took her by the hand to stand her
up. Then he reached around her legs and back and
picked her up. They both knew what was coming. He
carried her up to and into the hut and gently laid
her on the bed.

The jungle, outside, sang as if conducted by
heaven. The kids weren't seen for the next 18
hours.

To say they were weak and tired would be a
good description of the pair of them. They each
slipped out of the hut for a bathroom break and
went right back in for some badly needed rest.

The day broke bright and sunny. Tim rose and
stood at the door of the hut and stretched. He
didn't have room. He had to get outside the hut so
his arms would stretch out full. He was stark
naked, knowing there was no one to see.
He felt a slap on his rear. Sharon had come
out of the hut behind him, quietly, and he didn't
know it. She giggled and ran. She, too, was
dressed only in her birthday suit.

Tim chased her, but Sharon was in too good
shape. She eluded him for a while, until he
simply, by higher law, placed himself right in
front of where she was running. She hit him hard
and knocked them both down.

Sharon was completely startled by his move and
screamed out in surprise. He now had her pinned,
something she expected least of all. She was now
laughing so hard she was losing power in the
fight. Finally she quit and allowed her husband,
now lover to sit on top of her and pin her arms
back into the sand.

It was good for Tim she stopped at that
moment. He, too, was laughing so hard his strength
was leaving him. It was fun to be with this woman.
He loved her so much she occupied all of his mind.

That was okay. Lovers and newlyweds are
permitted a honeymoon period. Tim and Sharon were
certainly enjoying theirs.

He looked into her eyes and they locked
together. He bent down to her to kiss her, letting
go of her arms in the process. She reached up and
grabbed him and held him to her. They were off
again into the land of euphoria.

Laying there on the beach, sunning their
entire bodies and slipping in and out of sleep,
occasionally chatting they suddenly heard human
voices.

Looking up and down the beach Tim could see no
one. Then he looked out to the river. There were
three canoes paddling down river. The were laden
with trade goods. The men in the canoes were
pointing and laughing. They knew this to be a
honeymoon hut and they were having fun with Tim
and Sharon, laughing at them.

Tim simply lay back down, turned on his side
and explained to Sharon what was happening. She
giggled.

They lay there for two hours. Too much for
those who wear clothes all the time. They both
turned red from the hot sun.

Tim got up first and noticed what was
happening. "Get up, honey. We're getting burned."

She looked at him and again began to laugh.
Tim was red from head to toe. He had been there
far too long.

Sharon waved her hands in front of Tim and
solved the problem. He did the same to her.
Lessons learned. They both set up the environment
around them to be ideal from that day forward.
They could set the temperature so it was perfect
and they could keep out the rays of the sun that
burned the body.

"Oh, Tim, this is wonderful. What a place to
have a honeymoon. We are completely by ourselves,
no phones, no T.V., no clocks, no schedules,
nothing that has to be done. We are free, at least
for a time."

"Are you hungry, hon?"

"Yeah! That's a good idea, let's eat."

They walked back up to the hut, put some
clothes on and sat under the patio roof. Sharon
manifested some of their favorite food and they
sat, ate, and talked about their new condition and
their new life.

HA! HA! HA!

Farmer Joe decided his injuries from the accident were
serious enough to take the trucking company responsible for
the accident to court. In court the trucking company's fancy
lawyer was questioning farmer Joe.

"Didn't you say at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine,"'
asked the lawyer.

Farmer Joe responded, "Well, I'll tell you what happened. I
had just loaded my favorite mule Bessie into the..."

"I didn't ask for any details," the lawyer interrupted,
"just answer the question. Did you not say at the scene of
the accident, 'I'm fine!'?"

Farmer Joe said, "Well, I had just got Bessie into the
trailer and I was driving down the road..."

The lawyer interrupted again and said, "Judge, I am trying
to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident,
this man told the highway patrolman on the scene that he was
fine. Now several weeks after the accident he is trying to
sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to
simply answer the question."

By this time the judge was fairly interested in Farmer Joe's
answer and said to the lawyer, "I'd like to hear what he has
to say."

Joe thanked the Judge and proceeded, "Well, as I was saying,
I had just loaded Bessie into the trailer and was driving
her down the highway when this huge semi-truck and trailer
ran the stop sign and smacked my truck right in the side. I
was thrown into one ditch and Bessie was thrown into the
other. I was hurting real bad and didn't want to move.
However, I could hear ol' Bessie moaning and groaning. I
knew she was in terrible shape just by her groans. Shortly
after the accident a highway patrolman came on the scene. He
could hear Bessie moaning and groaning so he went over to
her. After he looked at her, he took out his gun and shot
her between the eyes. Then the Patrolman came across the
road with his gun in his hand and looked at me." He said,
"Your mule was in such bad shape I had to shoot her. How are
you feeling?"
