TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Where did the term "Gypsy" come from?

What do Gypsies call themselves?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Which state in the US has the most shoreline?

Nope, it's not California, Florida, or Hawaii. It's
Minnesota. When you've got 11,842 lakes, you've got a lot of
shoreline!

Where did Gypsies originate?

Most likely the Gypsies originated in Northern India, as the
Gypsy language (Romany) is Indic. However, no one knows why
or when the Gypsies left India. We do know they were in
Persia by 1000 A.D. and had reached northwest Europe by the
1400s and North America by the 1800s.

Instant Messaging Grows in Consumer, Business Sectors

Instant messaging has been popular among cell phone users
for a while, but it also has become more important to
business users in recent years, according to a study
released yesterday.

"Widespread use of instant messaging in corporate sectors
has increasingly been gaining traction, and we expect that
the Enterprise Instant Messaging market will continue to
show strong growth over the next few years," according to a
summary of The Radicati Group's Instant Messaging Market
study.

The Radicati Group, Palo Alto, CA, looked at instant
messaging use in 2005, then predicted potential growth. It
found that users of enterprise networks sent 1.4 instant
messages per day this year on average, but will send seven
per day by 2009.

"While the technology was first developed as a way for
consumer users to keep in touch with friends and family,
today it has become a very important communications tool for
corporate users," the summary said.

Still, instant messaging is more popular among consumers.
Consumers sent about 12.5 IMs per day in 2005, a number
expected to reach 39.5 a day in 2009. There are also many
more consumer than business IM accounts. The study found 816
million accounts in public IM networks compared with 51
million enterprise IM accounts.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 5 of 31

Both forms of dental disease are so prevalent that it
is an epidemic by any standard. Ninety percent of the
population has, or has had, some form of these
diseases. It is estimated that between 30 and 50% of
the population has periodontitis, the most destructive
form of dental disease (it is difficult to effectively
gauge the percentage, as approximately 50% of the
population do not see a dentist on a regular basis).
Dental disease can cause:

• Gum disease;
• Bleeding;
• Abscesses;
• Tooth decay;
• Tooth loss;
• Bad breath; and
• Unsightly teeth.

Dental disease can also generate a great deal of
stress. It can create fear and anxiety, pain, and
discomfort. It can also be very expensive, especially
when the cost of treatment is added up over a lifetime.

As destructive and costly as dental disease is, most
people, including dentists and physicians, have somehow
managed to convince themselves that its damaging
effects are limited to the teeth and gums. I believe
this is because most people tend to think that the
mouth is not actually a part of the body . . . or it is
some how ‘outside of the body’.

I also feel that there is a communication gap between
the medical and dental professions. This gap, in
effect, means that vital information on the overall
health of the patient is not normally shared between
the two professions. But whatever the reason, the
result is that most people, including health
professionals, do not understand the seriousness of
dental disease and its impact on overall health. Yet,
it should be obvious to any health professional that
infection (especially a serious and
long-lasting—chronic—infection) in any part of the body
will always negatively affect the entire body.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

The wedding party back at the Henry cabin at
the lake near Pinehill was still going strong. It
was a situation of there being so much love in the
air that folks didn't want to leave. Even the
neighbors who had wandered over didn't want to
leave. Here it was a work day and those who had to
work were phoning in to their places of employment
and saying they wouldn't be in today.

That's the kind of thing that happens when in
the presence of such immense love being broadcast
by those who lived by higher law. And here there
were a lot of people who broadcast love.

So the party was considered no only a success,
but one that would be remembered for a very long
time, especially in Pinehill.

"David," said Brock Stanley, "you sure did a
fine job on that statue of Old Pete. Nearly
everyone in town goes to see it everyday. I don't
know what there is about it but it sure draws
people, big time. And it looks so life like it's
amazing. Good job."

"Thank you, Brock. I'm glad the townsfolk like
it. The city placed it in a central spot so it
could be kind of a meeting place, I suppose."

"Well, that is what it's becoming. People
just like to sit there, even if they aren't
meeting someone. It does something to people.
Somehow it makes them more peaceful inside. You
know, not quite so tense? It is just a nice place
to be and when others come around its a nice place
for folks to visit. It's becoming the talk of the
town. Even outsiders come with regularity. It
really is wonderful. Thank you for doing such a
good job."

"You're welcome, Brock. How's business?"

"It's terrific, David. And now that I
think about it I have to say it has improved since
the statue went up. I guess it draws folks back to
the center of town, just like Old Pete did."

"Then it really is a monument to Old Pete,
isn't it?"

"That's right. You know, up to now I
hadn't thought about that. You're right, Old Pete
is still doing what he does best, bringing folks
downtown. Wow! I'll have to talk about that with
the other merchants. That's right."

"Good. I'm glad folks are getting the most
out of it. It is good people like it and that it
isn't just a place for pigeons to roost." David
snickered a little over that thought.

Brock did too. "You know what? I can't
remember seeing any bird land on the statue."

"Well, maybe that's because there are too
many people around."

"Maybe. Somehow the statue gives off its
own light. I don't know how the city did that but
it gives off light and warmth so folks are crowded
around it even at night, and all hours of the
night, too."

"Oh hi, Mary. Enjoying the party?"

"Hello, you two. What are you guys talking
about?"

"I was just complimenting David on the
fine job he did on Old Pete's statue. The town is
really enjoying it and he just now pointed out
that maybe Old Pete is bringing folks back
downtown. Business is up, and I think that's true
for all the downtown businesses. The other guys I
speak with once in a while seem to think things
are better. We were wondering if it is because Old
Pete is bringing folks back, just like he always
did."

"Oh you guys are just dreaming. How can a
statue do that?"

"Well, I was thinking the same thing but it is
true there is always someone around the statue and
many times there's a crowd. It is never without
folks around it even at all hours of the day. I
think there might be something to that idea. Wow!"

"So, Mary, how are the children?"

"They're just fine, David, and yours?"

"Growing like weeds, Mary. But Pam and I love
being parents. It is the most enjoyable thing we
have ever done."

"Good for you, but I don't understand why you
live in the middle of a jungle like that. Eloise,
too. What on earth makes you do that?"

"We have no need for the trappings on North
American man, Mary. We don't need or want cars,
trucks, houses. We aren't in a game of
oneupsmanship, trying to keep up with the Joneses
or making an impression on others. We like things
quiet and peaceful where the kids can learn to
fully express their true selves without having to
have all the toys of humanity."

"You and Eloise speak nearly the same words. I
just don't understand it. Yet, I must say you all
look good and don't appear to be getting any
older, while the rest of us slave away, get grey,
lose our hair, get wrinkles. Maybe you have
something there. Maybe you've found the fountain
of youth."

HA! HA! HA!

My job is in the Aerospace Industry, and it's always been a
challenge to explain what kind of work I do.

At one gathering, I tried several unsuccessful attempted
explanations before deciding to be as generic as possible.
When the subject came up while I was talking with a group of
guys, I replied simply, "Defense Contractor."

The men nodded, and as the conversation went on, I silently
declared victory to myself. Then, one of them turned to me
and asked, "So, what do you put up mainly? Chain-link?"
