TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How did the term "Indian giver" come about?
Were most Native Americans killed in warfare by American
settlers?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How many gypsies are currently living and where do they
live?
Gypsies are found on every continent, but most live in Spain
and the Balkans now, often living in settled communities
(though some still travel in caravans). Most are Roman
Catholic or Eastern Orthodox and -- despite much prior
wandering -- retain a common identity and customs. Estimates
of their numbers vary widely, but there are perhaps ten
million Gypsies worldwide. Tragically, half a million
Gypsies died in Nazi concentration camps during World War
II. Today, they continue to face discrimination and
persecution, particularly in Romania.
Did American settlers really pull wagon trains into circles
at night to protect against Indian attack?
Well, settlers DID circle their wagons at night, but the
reason was not really for protection. The primary reason was
to form a corral to keep in the horses, oxen, and mules.
Attack from Native Americans was rare. In fact, the greatest
danger on the westward trail was disease.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby

Enthusiasm Carries The Day!
The new priest is nervous about hearing confessions, so he
asks an older priest to sit in on his sessions. The new
priest hears a couple confessions, then the old priest asks
him to step out of the confessional for a few suggestions.
The old priest says, "Cross you arms over your chest and rub
your chin with one hand."
The new priest tries this. The old priest suggests, "Try
saying things like, 'I see,' 'yes,' 'go on,' 'I understand,'
and ' how did you feel about that?'"
The new priest says those things, trying them out. The old
priest says, "Now, don't you think that's a little better
than saying, 'Whoa... What happened next?'"
Well! Okay, maybe there are some places you want to control
your enthusiasm, but never lose sight that enthusiasm
sometimes is the only thing that makes progress.
You see, it does not always matter how logical it is for the
person to purchase. Sometimes it does not matter how many
benefits they can derive from buying. Even it does not
matter somedays that a person has lots of money and the
product will serve them well.
That is the nature of selling. The buying motivations are
wide and varied and often it is only Enthusiasm that Carries
The Day!
So you have heard it all before, right? So what is it I want
to talk to you about?
Some folks can turn on enthusiasm "when they have to". Yet
that is not the enthusiasm that works. It is enthusiasm for life
and all parts of it that counts. It is being enthusiastic about all
that you do that counts. it is the enthusiasm for living that will
draw folks to you and your work as if you were a magnet.
Some of you might say it is unnecessary to be enthusiastic
when no one is around because people don't see you then -
WRONG.
Those are exactly the times when people see you full bore. What
you do when folks aren't around will show up in your end results,
when they are around.
That is why airlines teach their personnel to smile when on
the telephone, because the smile shows through the
phone. So too will your enthusiasm about your work, about life
and about people be made known. Remember ...
Enthusiasm Carries The Day!

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 7 of 31
How Dental Disease Does Its Damage Various forms of
dental disease result in infection, which will always
affect overall systemic healthto one degree or
another. Specific infections directly related to dental
disease can contribute to problems such as periapical
abscesses (infections of the dental nerve and surround
bone) and cavitations of the jaws (infections left when
a tooth was extracted).
However, the most serious damage done by dental
disease is caused by the more advanced form of gum
disease. Every health practitioner understands that the
body is negatively affected by infection of any kind.
The more serious the infection, and the longer it is
present, the greater its potential for damaging overall
health. Any infection stresses the immune system. The
extent of its effect on that system is directly related
to the extent, type, and duration, and location of the
infection.
It is also important to understand that periodontal
disease does not just involve the soft tissue of the
mouth. If left unchecked, gum disease will progress
until the underlying bone structure of the jaws is
infected. As the periodontal pocket continues to deepen
it becomes a haven for many types of harmful bacteria.
Over time, the bacterial infection continues to expand,
exposing the circulatory system to ever increasing
numbers of virulent bacteria and their toxins.
Remember, this is the same blood that travels
throughout the entire body and as such, it can carry
the bacteria and its toxins to other parts of the body,
including the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver.
Looking at it from another perspective will help you to
better understand the extent and seriousness of this
oral infection. It has been estimated that in a mild
form of gum disease, if laid out flat, the total
infected area would be about the size of a postcard. In
the case of moderate-to-severe gum disease, the total
infected area could cover an area the size of a
standard sheet of paper. Now, imagine if this infected
area was then transferred from the mouth to the neck
(or any other part of your body). If any competent
health professional saw this amount of infection in any
part of the body he or she would consider this to be a
very serious infection and suggest immediate treatment.
Yet, this type of infection is present, and left
untreated, in hundreds of millions of people in the USA
and worldwide.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Brock stepped in. "Thank you Pam. We know you
mean well. Mary has not had anyone speak with her
this way, not even I. We just stand back and let
her strut. I don't tell her mostly because she is
so defensive she would fight all the time. She
would take that as an attack rather than look into
it to see if there was any truth in it."
Mary looked at Brock as if she were seeing him
for the first time. "You never told me you thought
that way!"
"No, my love. I have not. I neither wanted or
needed the arguments that would come from it. I
always wanted you to take my name. As far as I'm
concerned I think I look weak among men when my
wife is so independent that she won't even take my
name."
The blows were falling hard and fast on Mary.
She had been clueless others thought of her this
way. Her pride was being stepped on and she was
mustering the strength to fight this onslaught.
David and Pam could see it coming so they
broadcast love unto Mary that was strong enough to
combat the fight. Mary remained calm.
David sent unto Mary, by thought, and with
power, the idea that it was time she should
stop and have a real look at who she was. It was
time that she learned her marriage meant "we" and
not "I" and "you". It was time she learned to work
as a team rather than being so independent. It was
time she made a decision as to who she really was,
and that was far from the lady of distinction she
thought she was. David then broadcast, quickly, a
picture in Mary's mind as to how her life would be
if she kept on her same course.
Mary did not like what she saw. She saw
herself as being completely alone. Even her own
children had enough of the arrogance she put out.
Her husband had long left her, and the girls at
the club she attended no longer wanted anything to
do with her. She was alone, thinking she had done
so much for the community and now the community
was shunning her. Mary did not like the picture.
David then broadcast a picture of what her
life would be like when she changed to a loving,
giving, caring person who wanted nothing in return
for her deeds. The picture revealed she was in
demand, that her husband loved her as did her
kids, that her public work was not only
appreciated but the "girls" wanted to be with her.
This second picture Mary liked much better.
David then caused her heart to desire the new
picture. He made it possible for Mary to want to
change her ways, all by herself, without
interference from anyone including her husband. He
made it possible for Mary to clearly define who
and what she wanted to be, down to the smallest
detail. Then he advised her heart to keep the
picture of who she wanted to be and let her know
the change would be automatic if she held in her
heart that image.
Mary looked at David. He sent her these
thoughts. "That's right Mary. You can be the
person in the second image and that is who you
wanted to be all along, isn't it?"
Without thinking Mary nodded. To her these
thoughts were so real they may well have come in
through her ears. Then the thought came to her,
"The choice is yours, Mary."
Stunning everyone Mary looked at her husband
and said "I want to be Mrs. Brock Stanley."
There was silence. Then, with tears in his
eyes, Brock took his wife in his arms and hugged
her. While doing so he looked and Dave and Pam.
Mouthing the words, but without sound he said
"Thank you." With his arm around his wife he
walked her to a quiet place amongst the crowd. The
two of them hugged and kissed the way they had not
done for years. It was a revitalization of life
for the pair of them.
Ben Striker was talking with a man who worked
in City Hall. He was the Special Assistant to the
Mayor. "Where is Fred? He was invited, I
understand."
"Yes, that's why he sent me and my wife, Ben.
He was called away to a conference. He and his
wife will be back late tonight. I am glad,
actually, at least for Shirley and I. Ben, I have
never been to such a wonderful function. These
people are incredible and that wedding ceremony
was something to behold. Was that really Jesus who
came and blessed the union?"
"Yes Harry, it was. Did you listen to what he
had to say?"
"Who couldn't? He spoke directly to my heart.
I thought he was speaking to me alone. Yes, Ben, I
heard. I have heard you live by higher law, Ben.
Is that right?"
"That is why I quit the police force Harry. I
could see the life Sam Henry was living and i
wanted to live that way, too."

A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course.
One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long
funeral procession on the road next to the course.
He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows
down in prayer.
His friend says, "Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I
have ever seen. You truly are a kind man."
The man then replies, "Yeah, it was the least I could do. We were
married 35 years."
