TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What are the only parts of the human body where hair DOESN'T
grow?

Is the heart on the left side of the human body, or more
toward the center?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Where on the human body do you find the thinnest skin?

On the eyelids. Our thickest skin is on the soles of our
feet, which is really quite practical when you think about
it.

Why is skin considered the largest organ in the human body?

Not only does skin cover a great deal of surface area (if
stretched out, it would cover about 21 square feet or more),
but it also weighs a good deal - about seven or eight
pounds.

Around The Net

Research aggregator eMarketer has now joined the cookie
fray, with a report issued today urging marketers to
persuade the online population that cookies are good for
them.

"To convince consumers, marketers must cajole them into
accepting cookies if they want to continue getting free
content online, make Web browsing easier, and enjoy other
real benefits," wrote Senior Analyst David Hallerman in "The
Cookie Report: Threats to Online Ad Measurement." "The best
persuasion for this purpose," wrote Hallerman, "would be a
full-blown ad campaign promoting all the ways cookies help
not advertisers but consumers."

The eMarketer report comes at a time when cookies are
increasingly seen as threats to online privacy. Just last
week, The Wall Street Journal's Walter Mossberg wrote a
column condemning third-party tracking cookies for intruding
on consumers' privacy. "Many Web sites, even from
respectable companies, place a secret computer file called a
'tracking cookie' on your hard disk," he wrote. "This file
records where you go on the Web on behalf of Internet
advertising companies that later use the information for
their own business purposes. In almost all cases, the user
isn't notified of the download of the tracking cookie, let
alone asked for permission to install it."

Mossberg goes on to suggest that rather than marketing
campaigns, companies consider compensating consumers for
allowing tracking cookies.

Marketers likely would respond that they already compensate
people for cookies -- both in the subtle form of serving
"relevant" ads, and in the not-so-subtle form of free
content. In fact, eMarketer suggests that publishers refuse
to make free content available to consumers who don't accept
cookies.

But content online already is ad-supported -- with or
without cookies. While tracking cookies might increase the
ability to target ads and analyze campaigns, online
marketers don't require cookies to serve ads.

As for making advertising more relevant, not all consumers
see that as a benefit. Some, in fact, undoubtedly view ads
that appear targeted to them personally as a violation of
privacy -- which is one of the reasons they delete cookies
in the first place.

As evidence mounts that consumers distrust and discard
cookies, marketers must either come up with persuasive
reasons for people to preserve cookies, or resign themselves
to the realization that online advertising won't yield
analytics as precise as they would have liked.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 12 of 31

In addition to the well-known association between
abnormal levels of lipid (fat) in the blood and the
narrowing and hardening of the arteries
(atherosclerosis), researchers also found an
association between elevated total dental index (TDI)
and atherosclerosis, independent of dietary habits.
This suggests that factors associated with gum disease
may contribute to the cause of atherosclerosis and
chronic infections could affect the development of
hardening of the arteries by toxic mechanisms.

In a more recent study, researchers examined the
relationship between stroke and chronic and recurrent
infection. They found that chronic bronchial infection
and poor dental health (primarily from chronic gum
infection) may be associated with an increased risk for
stroke (cerebrovascular ischemia). The results of this
study suggest that, independent from established
vascular risk factors, symptoms of recurrent or chronic
bronchitis and poor dental health may be associated
with stroke.

Gum disease and root canal infections appear as main
contributors in the role of chronic dental disease.
Interestingly, infections in the jaw bone resulting
from an infected root canal (caused by decay) are also
a factor in stroke risk. This is another example of how
decay can play a role, however indirectly, in heart
disease.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"But, Sam! That is preposterous. Why would we
have to give everything up?"

"Penny, I just told you. It is because you do
not wish to see that you are puzzled. The very
idea you must give up your worldly wealth is a
frightening thought to most, and they do not think
past that idea. They simply make the decision not
to live by higher law."

"Well, I guess so. Who wants to give up all
they have worked for?"

"I am not selling, Penny. You asked a question
and I simply answered it. I reiterate that if you
wish to live by higher law then you must willing
to and forever change your perspective. You must
commit to the task, accepting no alternative. Only
you make it hard. The way has been presented to
you and for each of you who attended the ceremony
you might recall Jesus removed from you any
impediment to living by higher law. That means
that now it is easy for you to make the choice. As
time goes by it will become more and more
difficult."

"Sam, I still can't believe that was Jesus who
came to the ceremony."

"Jack, why not?"

"We have been taught Jesus died on the cross.
No one comes back from the dead."

"Jack, read your bible. There are many, many
passages where Jesus is present, after the
crucifixion and burial. He appeared to many, still
does."

"The church doesn't think so."

"I'm quite sure you're right on that point.
The church does not think that possible. Can you
imagine the names he would be called if Jesus came
here and worked as he did before? That's what
happens when someone sets themselves as the
authority. They think that anything that doesn't
go along with their mindset is wrong. It never
occurs to them they are wrong. They become driven
by fear their world will change if they accept
something they think shouldn't be true."

"Sam, this is crazy. What are we doing
standing here talking about this? Why can't we all
live by higher law and be done with it?"

"You can, Jack. You can. The problem is you
don't. You don't believe life can be that simple.
You don't believe you can live without your
material goods or your station in life. You cannot
see past the veil of simplicity because you think
life is measured by the material goods you have.
It will only be on your deathbed that you come to
see the folly of that notion, for it is only there
that you realize you can take nothing with you and
that your motivations through life have been
incorrect. Higher law is by choice. All can make
that choice, Jack. It is for all men."

"Mr. Henry, aren't you afraid people look at
you and think you are crazy?"

"They do already, Mrs. Sample. Yet it is those
same people who come to us when a child is ill or
they have some other problem. If this were to
become a contest, those same people would have the
loudest voices against us. It is all part of human
nature, Mrs. Sample. No I am not afraid of what
people think. I can serve those people and I am
willing to do so, even if they take a position
against me. One is completely protected when
living by higher law, Mrs. Sample, and there is no
room for anything but our Maker's love in our
lives. That is what we concentrate upon. If I
concerned myself with what others think of me I
would be cast about like an insect in high winds.
I prefer to keep my feet on the rock of my Maker's
laws. Now let me ask all of you a few things."

There was murmuring in the crowd.

"Did you enjoy this wedding?

A unanimous "Yes."

"Even though there were things that happened
you have never seen before you all felt
comfortable?"

Again a unanimous "Yes."

"And all the people you were speaking with,
they didn't seem anything other than normal? You
were perfectly comfortable with them?"

"Yes."

"None of them pulled any tricks on you. None
of them tried to tell you they lived by higher
law. None of them were selling the idea. None of
them were anything but perfect ladies and
gentlemen, right?"

"Yes."

"Further, you spoke with many and knew not
they even lived by higher law, right?" Sam was
bringing to their minds the fact that living by
higher law still permits people to be like all
other people. The only difference is their belief
system permitting them to accomplish things far
beyond what most consider the norm.

"Yes."

HA! HA! HA!

Many people assume that Earl Gray tea got its name by being
the favorite of that English earl. However, it seems that
there is a small town in Wales named Earl Gray where the
town's citizens are getting concerned about the ability of
their mayor to continue in office.

The incumbent was initially elected in 1972 and she has run
unopposed in every election since. Unfortunately, her age
now hinders her from getting about.

What the citizens are saying is that -- the Earl Gray mayor,
she ain't what she used to be!
