ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Did the Hundred Years War really last a hundred years?
More than that, actually. But it wasn't one long continuous
battle. The Hundred Years War was a series of battles
between France and Britain over succession to the French
throne. The battles went on from 1337 to 1453, lasting 116
years total. After the British had successfully invaded
France and claimed the throne, King Charles VII of France
kept fighting. Eventually, with the help of Joan of Arc, his
forces successfully drove the British out.
Is it true that babies are born nearsighted?
Yes, a newborn infant cannot initially accommodate her
vision to distances. An infant can focus on objects in a
range of eight to ten inches from the face - just enough
distance for the newborn to focus on his mother while
breastfeeding.

Make It Worth Their While!
A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can
see from her nameplate that the teller's name is Patricia
Whack. So he says, "Mrs. Whack, I'd like to get a loan to
buy a boat and go on a long vacation."
Patti looks at the frog in disbelief and asks how much he
wants to borrow.
The frog says $30,000.
The teller asks his name and the frog says that his name is
Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's OK, he
knows the bank manager.
Patti explains that $30,000 is a substantial amount of money
and that he will need to secure some collateral against the
loan. She asks if he has anything he can use as collateral.
The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny pink
porcelain elephant, about half an inch tall that is bright
pink and perfectly formed.
Very confused, Patti explains that she'll have to consult
with the manager and disappears into a back office.
She finds the manager and says: "There's a frog called
Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to
borrow $30,000. And he wants to use this as collateral." She
holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what the heck is
this?"...
The bank manager looks back at her and says: "It's a knick
knack, Patti Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's a
Rolling Stone."
WOW! I love it.
I laughed at this, and snickered, several times today. This
is one joke that gave me a real tickle.
And that is the point of the article today. In all my
writing I keep in mind always that the reader, the person I
want to reach, is a very busy person. That is to say my
readers are busy people if they are anything like me. I
respect that. I know how time fragmentation means they have
few minutes to call their own.
So, when I write I continually try to make it worth their
while. They are investing time, thought, energy and emotions
when they read. If they are willing to invest that in
reading any article I write then it is up to me to make it
worth their investment.
So should you, in everything you say and write. People have
their own lives to lead and it is critical you know and
respect that. It pleases me that people are like that. It is
the free and independent spirit that continues to grow in
each one of us that makes our lives great. That comes from
respecting each others time and attention when they listen
to us.
That anyone would take the time to read my material is a
very high compliment. It means I must absolutely respect
their time, and never take their reading of my articles for
granted.
That, too is a point for you to think on. When someone
listens to you there is an element of trust you must earn,
and keep earning every day. Think on that if you would
progress.
It is a simple formula - give them something.

Detoxification
A Natural Body Function: Does It Really
Need To Be Helped Along?
PART 2 of 11
Frequently I am asked about detoxification, but it will not
be phrased that way. Many people dont have much, if any,
knowledge of this bodily function. A few people have their
own understanding and often just want to challenge my ideas,
which is fine. I am always amazed at those who have such
definite opinions without really understanding the function
of their incredible body! So I want to explain what happens
naturally in your body. I will share two doctors
description of what symptoms they find in their patients to
show this could be happening. I will also give a few
comments on additional detoxification procedures. Later in
this article, I also I thought I would tell you what I do
when a new person gets on the supplements I often speak
about.
So lets work through some medical terminology first. Ill
use definitions from Mosbys and Medline as they are
acceptable to the medical community and always easy for
everyone to understand. I do not want to get into things
like alcohol or drug detoxification. I will stick to
everyday things we can do or need to understand. When I
researched this topic, I ended up in many very detailed and
involved resource sites. So there is a lot of information
available. If you are interested, then please explore this
more fully. Its a very urgent and important subject
nowadays. I see a world out of control with people trying to
find relief and happiness in chemicals. The entire point of
them taking any such chemicals is to change their present
life experience. I have compassion for the dilemma in which
they find themselves now with their addictions, but that is
not what I want us to learn about right now.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

A Pot Pourri of ideas today, folks. I can't help but really
wonder what is going on in the state of Virginia. They have
closed down the government completely and now all sorts of
things like the big gambling casinos are shut down.
It seems the governor wants to raise sales tax by 1% to 7%
from six. His own party members are the ones refusing to do
this and because they have no consensus on the matter, nor
did they have on July 1/06, the mandatory date for this
budget work to be done, the governor had no choice but to
close down government operations.
The governor wants the extra money to pay off the state
debt. His party members are afraid of voter backlash. Who
knows when it will be resolved?
I notice that one of the terrorists picked up by the
Canadian government was a young 20 yr. old. He was a
computer geek, and lover of games until he married a
fanatic young woman of the same faith.
Today he no longer watches television for the fear of seeing
too much flesh, which he now says is wrong. He has also
stopped doing the computer games, which apparently he aslo
continues a taboo.
It is funny how a young man, raised in this country, taking
advantage of all the things that country offers, can change
his mind do diametrically. He is now fanatical about his
religion and looking for places to cause harm to mankind,
including in his host country.
Oh! so be it

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Mackinaw: Where did the "mackinaw" get that name?
The term was first applied to the gaudy blankets issued by
the Government in the 1820s and used in Indian trade,
especially at the trading post of Mackinac, Michigan - which
had been named Mitchimakinak by the Ojibway Indians. The
jackets were first made of this colorful blanket cloth; and
since "Mackinac" is pronounced "Mackinaw," they were called
"Mackinaw" jackets

HA! HA! HA!
White as a Ghost
Two men were out playing golf on a nice Saturday afternoon.
They were getting frustrated, though, because the two women
who were playing right in front of them were quite slow, and
were holding up the men's game.
"Don't they know they're supposed to let us play through?"
asked the first man. The other man shook his head. "I'm
going to go ask them if we can play through," said the first
man, emphatically, "Enough is enough."
He started walking over toward the women, but as he got
close, he suddenly turned around and came back, white as a
ghost.
"Oh God," he said to his friend, "This is awful. You're
going to have to ask those women if we can play through. You
see, one of them is my wife, and the other is my mistress."
The other man shrugged, and said "No sweat." He walked over
toward the women, and just as he was getting close, turned
around and came running back to his pal. His eyes wide open,
he said, "Small world!"
