How can the Goliath spider eat a bird when it doesn't have
any teeth?

Is it true that female tarantulas eat the males after
mating?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can a fetus in the womb see and hear?

Yes. Research shows that the fetus in the womb is already
participating in the world outside the womb. Not only can
the fetus hear music, voices (particularly his mother's
voice), and loud noises, he will react when a bright light
is cast onto the mother's belly. It's not all darkness in
there - more of a reddish-colored dimness.

Is there really a spider that eats birds?

If you don't like spiders, you might not want to read about
THIS one. The Goliath bird-eating spider, the largest
tarantula in the world, really does eat prey as big as
birds. It eats those only rarely, though. Mostly it likes
beetles, frogs, small snakes, lizards, bats, and rats. When
full-grown, this spider has a leg span that can reach a
foot! Fortunately, you're not likely to come across one of
these arachnids unless you live in South America. Another
type of bird-eating spider lives in Australia, though. That
country seems to get ALL the strange creatures.

Here's To Think On . . . with Ken Darby
-----------------

Discretion Is The Better Part Of Valor!

It was Saturday morning as Jake, an avid hunter, woke up
ready to go bag the first deer of the season. He walked down
to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee, and to his surprise
he found his wife, Alice, sitting there, fully dressed in
camouflage.

Jake asked her, "What are you up to?"

Alice smiled. "I'm going hunting with you!"

Jake, though he had many reservations about this,
reluctantly decided to take her along. Later they arrived at
the hunting site. Jake set his wife safely up in the tree
stand and told her, "If you see a deer, take careful aim and
I'll come running back as soon as I hear the shot."

Jake walked away with a smile on his face knowing that Alice
couldn't bag an elephant, much less a deer. Not 10 minutes
passed when he was startled as he heard an array of
gunshots.

Quickly, Jake ran back. As Jake got closer to her stand, he
heard Alice screaming: "Get away from my deer!"

Confused, Jake raced faster towards his screaming wife. And
again he heard her yell: "Get away from my deer!" followed
by another volley of gunfire!

Now within sight of where he had left his wife, Jake was
surprised to see a guy standing there with his hands high in
the air. The guy, obviously distraught, said, "Okay, lady,
okay!!!! You can have your deer!!! Just let me get my saddle
off it!"

I guess the guy is right. Rather than fight over the issue
just get the saddle and get out of there. Right?

How many times in life do we run across situations where it
is wise of us to say nothing and just leave.

I look at the times when that seems appropriate and I find
they do not relate to life and death situations like the
joke above, but it is nonetheless wise to act similarly.

What it is really called, is minding your own business. Most
of us get into circumstances where there is a compulsion
within us to help someone who is having trouble performing
some task. Often this difficulty is based on ignorance,
indeed it is a learning situation. Don't go barging in to
show them or help them. Let them learn to do it themselves.

I know of people who are unable to earn themselves a living
because their parents always did everything for them. Now,
when it is time for them to live by themselves or with a
significant other, they are useless, quite unable to bring
home the money needed to live.

Don't do that for your kids. Let them rough it. It is the
tough times that teach us, not the good times. You must let
folks suffer, if they would learn. Some of life's lessons
just don't come any other way.

Of course I am not advocating pain and suffering for all who
must lear something. I am only saying observe the situation
and let discretion be the better part of valor. There are
times and places where you are to help and times or places
where you stay away. Think on those things.

To be of real service to others sometimes dictates you stay
clear of what they are doing.

You will know the times, but if you don't, then make a pact
with yourself to think about situations before you react
"automatically".

Discretion Is The Better Part Of Valor!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Detoxification
A Natural Body Function: Does It Really
Need To Be Helped Along?
PART 4 of 11

People normally don’t think about detoxification until
someone brings it to their attention through a remark or
listening to a lecture on wellness. Then their plan is to
treat this perceived problem by themselves. They fear that
something is wrong. In reality, there isn’t a problem. It’s
your body going through what it wants and doesn’t want. It
constantly gets rid of the unwanted elements to make room
for the desirable and usable ones.

They suspect (or have become interested in) health issues.
And the easiest and fastest way they think this situation
can be resolved is to “clean out their body”. In a way that
is appropriate thinking, but the method they intend to use
may be the challenge. This method may not be all that
helpful to the body. There is a truth that says that a
confused mind always says “no”. So if you are planning on
asking for help, find yourself someone familiar with the use
and outcomes of the methods you intend using. Again, my
experience raises its head with all I hear. This is simply a
warning to know what you are doing.

Knowledge is very powerful and comforting. The more you know
about the workings of your body, the better choices and
decisions you will make. When I speak with people, I often
tease them about giving them a quick course in anatomy and
physiology. But it’s so much easier then to remind them of
what happens. The information is fresh in their minds. If
you have balance and hearing problems, by the time you come
to our Meniere’s site you will already have tried many
things and been given conflicting opinions. Now you are
confused and often very frustrated.

So it’s only right that you have a good idea of what your
body does so effectively and constantly to try and help you
keep healthy. This helps you feel more in control. It takes
away some of the hopelessness and panic you experience as
you search for help and support. I believe there is a lot of
conflicting advice about the treatment of problems to do
with balance and hearing!

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

-----------------------END DISCLAIMER

I don't mean to belabor the point, however, my article of
yesterday still stands. Do you know what North Korea is
doing now?

The Chinese have sent trainloads of supplies into North
Korea. North Korea has sent the crews home and kept the
trains claiming them as part of the aid package.

They just keep coming up with one harebrained scheme after
another, these people. It would appear the rest of the
government leaders are no better than the twit at the top.

I can easily see them fire atomic weapons under the guise
they felt threatened. They haven't the brains to think any
different. However, in this case they do have the world
against them. Russia, China, Japan and the U.S. all have
military assets in the region. North Korea will be swallowed
up in a flash.

Meanwhile the citizens of that country are starving while
the leaders are playing games with rockets and weapons.

I dare say that not since the history of mankind began has
there been such lack of responsibility. They are like a
bunch of untrained kids, or syphilis riddled brain dead
morons who think what they are doing is just a big game and
lots of fun.

Little do these men know the law. Great shall be the fall of
that house.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Lallapaloosa: Where does the term "lallapaloosa" come from?

"Lallapaloosa" comes from a provincialism of County Mayo,
Ireland - allay-frozee, meaning a "sturdy fellow." The Irish
adopted it from the French - who, when they landed at
Killala in 1798, repeatedly shouted, Allez-fusil! - meaning
"Forward the muskets".
