Do You Know What You're Doing?
Many years ago my wife was to knitting what Tiger Woods is
to golf. She designed exotic patterns with ease.
There was an occasion when we had lunch in a real Chinese
restaurant (only one person spoke partial English, all menus
were in Chinese).
When she saw the hand-written menu she was so impressed with
the calligraphy she tucked the menu in her purse. Some
months later I saw the result, a stunning white sweater with
the Chinese symbols hand-stitched down the front.
She received compliments galore until one cocktail party
when we met a distinguished Chinese physician who asked my
wife where she got the symbols. He then wanted to know if
she knew what they meant.
"I'm afraid to ask," she said, "but tell me anyway."
Even she had to laugh when he told her they read,
"This is a cheap dish--but good."
Boy! Do you see a red face on this woman? I do.
Unfortunately I see something else, too.
I see the number of times I barged right in to something
without much forethought, only to find I was in the middle
of a situation I knew nothing about. Have you ever done
that?
If not, you aren't human. We've all done this or something
like it in our lives. Most of the time it ends up in
embarrassment, but it can end up costing relationships or
money, too.
That's why I like jokes so much. Everyone of them has a
"life's lesson" for us. All one need do is look.
The point of this conversation is, please, look, study and
think before you leap. I will usually get better results,
faster, and save the embarrassment.

Some Thoughts About Soy
PART 3 of 5
The September 2005 issue of Journal of Lipid Research
published the findings of research showing that a diet rich
in soy protein helps protect against hepatic steatosis
(fatty liver). Fatty liver disease is characterized by an
increased production of fatty acids in the liver. The
condition is associated with the development of insulin
resistance, and can result in liver enlargement and chronic
liver disease. There is currently no treatment for this
potentially fatal condition.
For 160 days, researchers fed soy protein diets to rats bred
to develop diabetes and fatty liver. Although the rats
developed obesity and hyperinsulinemia as expected, they
failed to exhibit an accumulation of cholesterol and
triglycerides in their livers. The effects of the soy diet
appeared to be due to a low expression of genes involved in
the synthesis of fatty acids and triglycerides in the liver.
Additionally, the soy-rich diet also increased the breakdown
of fatty acids in the liver, further lowering the
accumulation of fat in the liver. Although more research is
needed on the subject, researchers believe the results
indicate that consumption of soy protein could reduce
insulin resistance and its resulting damage to the liver and

Is my observation folly or am I right. It seems to me we are
encountering more and more earthquakes. I know we have
earthquakes all the time, most of which are never reported.
Only the big ones get into the press. Yet I see daily
reports of earthquake activity and it occurs to me that
today there are more reported on a daily basis than there
was a year ago.
I have no idea what all this seismic activity is about, but
I also know that places like Indonesia are being especially
hard hit. The tsunamis they have had lately result from
earthquakes.
The death toll from the last one has risen again to over
500. And worse yet, I see another earthquake has hit the
region.
So let's see. We have wars and rumors of wars. We have bugs
getting out of hospitals and causing much sickness, at least
in America. We have heat waves killing people in Europe. We
have earthquakes and tsunamis in Indonesia.
Boy, if that doesn't sound like end time prophesies I don't
know what does. Doesn't it make you wonder where the world
is going and what the future holds?
I don't say these things to scare you, quite the contrary.
For months years now I have been encouraging you to follow
the route to peace and prosperity, security, love and peace
of mind. I still do that today. Heed not the world's
condition. There is nothing you can do about it anyway. But
there is something you can do so your own life runs better.
Go inside to find your Maker. There, establish communication
with your Maker and from that day your life will be forever
peaceful and powerful.
