TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

How are rocks formed?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How much force do humans exert when they jump?
Humans exert a force that is only two to three times
their body weight. In the insect world, we'd be laughed
at.
Can rocks grow?
Rocks can indeed grow. But VERY, VERY slowly. On
mountains under the ocean there are rocks called
iron-manganese crusts that grow approximately ONE
millimeter every MILLION years. Of course, other rocks
grow too. The best place to see it happen is in caves.

Look'em In The Eye!
by Ken Darby
A customer wanted to ask his attractive waitress for a date,
but couldn't get her attention. When he was able to catch
her eye, she quickly looked away. Finally he followed her
into the kitchen and blurted out his invitation. To his
amazement, she readily consented.
He said, "Why have you been avoiding me all this time?
You wouldn't even make eye contact."
"Oh," said the waitress, "I thought you wanted more coffee."
Wow! How's that for an employee? She won't look you
in the eye because she thought you might want another
cup of coffee? I wonder if her boss has noticed that
behavior.
Yet the joke brings up another point. It speaks of the very
first sign of confidence and sincerity. Think about it. If
someone is speaking to you and fails to look you in the
eye, how comfortable are you about what they are saying?
The truth is that when eyes meet souls communicate.
Those who don't look you in the eye often have much
to hide.
Do not think I am saying that if one looks you in the eye
they can be trusted. That is not what this is about. In fact
con artists are well schooled at holding a steady eye.
You will have to determine their honesty.
What I am speaking of though, is the confidence level of
the one you are speaking with. Indeed I might be speaking
of your own confidence level.
From this day forward make a point of looking people
in the eye when you speak with them and you will find
your listener more attentive and more likely to believe
you. Eye contact is critical to conveying your message
and to getting the message from those who speak
with you.
In fact it is so critical that a lot of Arab businessmen will
wear sunglasses when negotiating a business deal.
They well know the eyes can give away their intent to
a practiced observer. Hiding their eyes allows them
more freedom, and usually better results.
Your eyes react to your emotions. The eyes react quickly
to your thoughts and convey messages you don't even
know you are giving out. Why do you think two lovers
spend so much time looking into each other's eyes?
Maintaining eye contact is a practiced skill. Practice,
practice, practice. The more you maintain eye contact
the more confident you appear to your customer's,
clients, friends and family. It helps establish authority.
Look'em In The Eye!

My Thoughts On Suicide Prevention
PART 2 of 6
Personally I hardly ever listen to the news. And
when I do, I find it really disturbing. When the horrific
events of September 11, 2001, occurred, my husband
had to make me aware of what was happening,
knowing I would need to know, but realizing I wouldn't
find out very quickly.
I watched a bit of TV that day. I was overcome with
feelings of fear and anxiety and hopelessness! I knew
it wouldn't make any difference to the world if I watched
or not, but it sure made a difference to me! So I made
a choice not to watch any more. There was nothing I
could do to help. However, I spent the following Friday
glued to the TV, watching all the memorial services. I
could connect with positive support in these. Eventually,
I heard one tremendous piece of insight and wisdom
and for that I am truly grateful. It came from someone
whose family had to endure a similar experience through
the death of her famous parent. She had to relive his
painful death over and over! She told how the constant
repetition on the news made her aware of her father in
this situation. He wasn't allowed to die TO her family
and they couldn't grieve a normal way.
For many, many people the news and the programs we
watch are like gospel. Nothing is questioned: it is just
believed, and it is incredibly influential. Does it seem
unusual then for someone who has nothing to live for
to make plans not to be "here" any longer?

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

As the little group entered the village they were
met by some village elders. It was their job to
determine who was visiting, and what was their
business, a simple but protective custom passed
down the centuries. It helped keep this village
safe for it's inhabitants.
Shing Li spoke with the elders and satisfied them
as to the intentions of these visitors. Indeed she
praised them as being honorable guests and that
they had done much to help her. They were
traveling through China and would not likely stay
very long. She asked the village elders to treat
these two foreigners with respect and dignity.
Mae and Susan, as was their custom, were
broadcasting love unto the village and all it's
inhabitants. The elders felt this love and rightly
translated it into the idea the strangers were
trustworthy and therefor to be be made welcome.
It had not been recently this village was
attacked, but they were bothered from time to time
by a group of villagers from up the valley where
the crops were not so good. Every once in a while
their frustration would overcome them and they
would strike out at this village that seemed so
prosperous.
The village elders thought this kind of thing had
gone on for centuries. It was only their turn to
withstand the onslaughts.
Shing Li escorted the little group to her place.
It was a bamboo house set up on stilts. The roof
was thatched and inside there were three rooms.
The house was a basic square with half of the
house serving as the kitchen eating area, and the
common area. The common area was where guests
were entertained, and where the family retired
after the evening meal.
The other two rooms were used as bedrooms. The
house was not furnished well, for that was not the
custom of these people. They were an humble people
who saw no need for much and fine furniture.
There was no couch or sofa, no lamps, no carpets.
The only thing in the common area was a very low
table, around which guests would sit.
The bedrooms, too, were sparsely decorated, having
no furniture, but mats rolled up next to a wall.
At night they would be rolled out for someone to
sleep on.
Out in the front of the house and in the direction
from which they entered the house, was a porch, or
deck type of area, that stretched from the house
maybe five or six feet. It was a clean area for
kids to play, up off the ground and away from
marauding animals.
The only marauding animals that kids would be
involved with would be pigs or maybe goats, for
they had a tendency to forage where they will.
The only other danger to the young were snakes,
which, while infrequent, were just plentiful
enough to have Mothers worry about their children.
As a child grew and became more playful they would
go out and play with other children. That kind of
noise and constant chaos usually kept all form of
animal life at bay.
The window openings and the door openings were
covered with thatched partial wall type of things
that could be raised or lowered. They might be
called shutters.
As they entered the building that is the first
thing Shing Li did, was to open the shutters,
allowing both light and fresh air into the house.
It had not seen light since she left.
There was not much "settling in". The load Shing
Li carried was mostly just a little food, and
clothing. She did have one chair.
Her little girl crawled out onto the porch and
Shing Li went out to retreive her.
"This is my home. As you can see it is not much.
If I had not come home by two moons the village
would have taken over the house and used it for
some newlyweds That is how my husband and I came
to have the house." said Shing Li, "Please make
yourselves comfortable."
"Thank you Shing Li. This is a very nice home, and
I see you can look out over the valley from here.
That is a nice view." said Mae.
"Yes, it is because of that view that some in this
village would not want me to return. They would
prefer to have the house." she answered.

A young man hired by a supermarket reported for his

handshake and a smile, gave him a broom, and said,
"Your first job will be to sweep out the store."
"But I'm a college graduate," the young man replied
indignantly.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that," said the manager.
"Here, give me the broom -- I'll show you how."
