IS YOUR INNER CRITIC WORKING OVER-TIME?

Do you have an Inner Critic who seems to always be on duty?
It is that voice that sounds so sure and authoritative as it
tears at your self-esteem and whittles away at your
self-confidence. You can actually look spectacular, healthy
and fit and it will fixate on the part of your body you like
the least. Sound familiar?
It is not the exact words that this voice utters that matter.
It is the quality of the energy behind the words...and it is
often not positive. Interestingly enough, the voice is
usually not telling the truth. In fact, it is not even close
to being based in reality. It is such a strange phenomenon. A
hundred people could tell you that you look terrific today,
and that one lonely, miserable Inner Critic can cause you to
decide that all one hundred of those folks are wrong! When
you look at it that way, it seems ludicrous, doesn't it?
Let me tell you a story from my own life. From the time I was
nine years old, I was told that I needed to diet, change, do
more, do less, reach, settle, conform, stretch. The message
from my folks was that no matter what I did I would never be
good enough. Sound familiar again? Once I was an adult, the
content of that message shifted from my weight to my career
and mothering ability, but the outcome was the same--no matter
what I did I would never be good enough. If I paid attention
to my career--and, as a single mother of three, there was no
choice if we wanted to eat--my parents insisted that I was not
giving my children enough of my time. If I paid attention to
my children, I was wasting my life being a mother. What a
Catch-22! My parents were invested in control. Making it
impossible for me to "win" allowed them to think they were in
control. Fortunately, I saw their game when I was seventeen
and gave their opinions less weight than they thought. Or, at
least, that is what I thought!
At forty or so, I was making photograph albums for my three
children. As I went through all the photos from my parents'
home and mine, I found myself in tears. Why? Because, in
looking at forty years of photos of me, I could see no
evidence of the person they described when I looked at myself.
The person in those photos was just fine just the way she was.
And yet, that Inner Critic had been well-informed with those
repeated messages. My tears were for the early years of
striving to gain the approval of folks whose opinions I really
did not value. I tell that story because I know it is a
common one. Fortunately, at age nineteen, Maxwell Maltz and I
became friends through his books. Everything changed!
If your Inner Critic has way too much to say, consciously turn
it off. When it begins, change the channel to one that is
supportive, one that encourages you to live fully, stretch and
grow--all on your own terms. You can do this!

What If...Reflecting On Chemicals Going Into Your Body
PART 1 of 5
Preamble: many times my articles are meant to make you think: to
make you aware of something you may have thought about
fleetingly...and then somehow this thought is just let go. In
this article I want to make you think, consciously. It is not my
intention to offend your way of doing things, but simply to show
some results that you may not have thought of yourself. And I
want to offer you a slightly different perspective. Sounds a bit
weird, doesn't it? I want to share some questions I get from
people who contact me. I have to think if one person has this
problem, then there might be more. So (my usual disclaimer:)
this is to enhance your education: not give any medical advice
or to diagnose.
As you know, I get a lot of questions and I am always willing to
help people understand their conditions. (I get thinly veiled
requests for school assignments, but have learned to send
helpful links instead!)
I find people on the Internet to be very informed. They have
usually done a to of research. They are very skeptical and don't
believe everything people tell them. However, when I am given an
overview of their medical history, I am often amazed about their
drug intake! None of it is done with any research. Yet they have
agreed to put these chemicals into their bodies.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"How can I learn to be like you?" asked Psong of
Mae.
"Psong, you are very close. You must learn the law
'As ye sow, so shall ye reap'. That must be burned
into your psyche so solid you are aware of it
always." said Mae.
"I am aware of this law. Everytime I did any act,
sometimes even kindness, the villagers, they
react, and I watch. I know this law. I hold no
grudges against the villagers. They do not know
what it is like to be like I was. They were afraid
they might catch what I had. They did not know it
was a deformity from birth. They did not know how
to deal with it." she said.
"The next thing you must learn is that all things
are made of a spiritual framework. Then gross
material is added to manifest what we see and
touch as what we call real. This framework can be
created and changed by you, with your thinking.
Your thoughts control this framework. If you see
everything as good and perfect, then the law will
cause that to happen. That is all I did with you.
I saw you as perfect and your Maker within you
responded to that call. Now look at you." said
Mae.
"You mean only my thoughts can make things as I
wish?" asked Psong.
"Only when you believe and have no doubts. It is
belief that causes the result. You must 'KNOW' it
is, then it will come to pass. If any doubt exists
then it shall not work. That is why, when people
try, they get no results. Trying presumes it might
not work. Only belief works." said Mae.
"That sounds hard." said Psong.
"No, no. It is not hard. It is simply a matter of
knowing the laws exist and that you will work
with the laws. It is a simple fact. Act and do as
if they always existed and you shall be a master."
said Mae.
"I will try." said Psong.
"No Psong. You will not try. You will do." said
Mae.
Susan and Mae worked with Shing Li and Psong for
another couple weeks. While the girls were
progressing rapidly, the villagers continued to
express jealousies and fears.
In order to protect Shing Li, her baby and Psong,
Mae put up a shield around the house. Only those
with good intentions, or with petitions for help
for themselves or others were allowed to enter
without difficulty. Those whose intentions were to
do harm immediatly forgot their mission upon
passing through the shield. It confused them and
they had to return to where they started.
Mae and Susan decided they wanted to return to
their homes, just for a while, to catch up on all
the happenings. They bid Shing Li and Psong
goodbye and departed.
Susan found everything just as she left it. There
were no surprises, no problems and nothing much
that made her feel welcome. The new life she had
now taken on was more appealing, and, she felt,
contributing to the welfare of man.
She walked next door to have a coffee with Sam and
Alewka Henry.
"Well, this is a surprise. We didn't know when we
were going to hear from you again. Living by
higher law has created quite a globe trotter in
you hasn't it?" said Sam, smiling.
"Sam Henry, you always were a tease." said Susan,
giving Sam a hug.
"Hi Alewka! How are you guys doing? Its been a
while since we spoke." said Susan.
"Hi Sue. Coffee?" asked Alewka.
"Sure, please and thank you." responded Sue.
"So tell us what you two have been up to. I'll bet
it has been fun?" said Alewka.
"It has. We went to China. There we began to walk
through the country. It took us four days alone
just to get out of Kowloon. Along the way we met
up with a young woman with a child and a pig. She
was going to the city to see what she could do to
earn a living. Her husband had just died and she
had no means of supporting herself and her child.
The prospects did not look good. Women in that
condition too often end up selling themselves just
to get a few crumbs. We took her back to her
village and began to work with her. Then there was
another young woman, a deformed cripple girl, in
the village whom Mae helped render perfect. She
and Shing Li are now living together and are well
on the way to living by higher law. It has been a
wonderful journey. I want to go back." said Susan.
