When were the first commercial flights to the moon offered?
No commercial flights to the moon are planned anytime soon,
of course, and none have ever taken place, but back in 1969 -- after
the first moon walk -- Pan American Airlines started accepting
reservations for a future trip, date unspecified. More than 80,000
requests poured in right away.
When was the first aerial photograph taken?
During the US Civil War. The photo was taken from a
hot air balloon.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
The cartoon character Popeye was actually based on a real
person named Frank "Rocky" Fiegel who was a tough guy who was
quite similar to Popeye physically.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
We Start Early!
A father is in church with three of his young children,
including his five year old daughter. As was customary,
he sat in the very front row so that the children could
properly witness the service.
During this particular service, the minister was
performing the baptism of a tiny infant. The little
five year old girl was taken by this, observing that he
was saying something and pouring water over the
infant's head.
With a quizzical look on her face, the little girl
turned to her father and asked:
"Daddy, why is he brainwashing that baby?"
WOW! Out of the mouthes of babes!
If this child only knew how deadly serious the truth
was that just came out of her mouth.
Yes! We are ALL brainwashed early. We are ALL
BRAINWASHED early in all things. Let me repeat that.
WE ARE ALL BRAINWASHED EARLY IN ALL THINGS.
I know this little story is about church and some of
you think I am speaking only of our religious training.
Yes, big time, we are brainwashed early in religion
BUT, not only religion.
I want to paint a picture for you. Let's say life was
different than it is. Let's say you could go through
childhood, puberty, teenage years and early adulthood
without a care in the world. Let's say you did not have
to work during that time. Let's say you could go to
school to do your book learning and you were never in
danger, never under pressure to "prepare" for your
adult life and while book learning was important it
really did not matter what else you learned.
Let's say that life was so different that everybody at
age 24 left home to go into a "special life preparation
school". This "school" is run by angels with special
powers. Everybody would have to go through this
"school" for a one week period before they entered the
"outside world", where they went to work and had all
the things they wanted and did all the things they
wanted to do.
While in this "school" everyone had seven days to look
at all the choices they had with which they could run
their lives for the rest of their lives and this
"special school" was the preparation for adulthood.
So, after thinking about all the choices that were laid
out before us we now had to make choices, getting ready
for the "last day of this special school". We were
offered career choices, you know, doctor, minister,
nurse, social worker, scientist, actor/actress, truck
driver, plumber, carpenter, pilot, government worker,
sailor. All the choices were laid out for us.
Also all lifestyle choices were laid out for us. We
could choose to be rich, poor, kind, tough, rough,
loving, cold, hard, arrogant, snobbish, polished,
polite, giving or being a taker, wise, uncaring, you
know, the genie in the bottle thing giving you your
wish for life.
In addition to that you could choose how you would be
remembered when your life was over. You could disappear
without anyone knowing or caring. You could be grieved
by many for you served so many, helped so many, you
were a real "Godsend" to hundreds of people. You, could
simply leave this world as so many do, being loved by
your family and friends, having lived the good and
courageous life, providing for and loving your family
and friends as best you could.
The last day of this "special school" was a "special
day". The angels took you into an operating room and
laid you down on a table. The room is filled with light
and love and there, quietly, without pain, sorrow, hard
work or suffering, they simply removed all the thoughts
out of your head that were contrary to your "choices"
and implanted all the "choices" you had made.
When you were fininshed this "special school" you were
ushered out a "very special door" into the real world
fully equipped to do what you had to do to live the
life you just chose. This process, the things that
happened on the "last day", the very "special day" came
to be a process known by a "special name".
Isn't that a wonderful thought? Wouldn't it be nice if
we could all go through life this way, knowing exactly
at every point how things were going to turn out?
Wouldn't it relieve us of tremendous pressure and
stress if our lives were charted like this and we could
make the choices rather than have them imposed upon us.
Wouldn't it be nice to be this free and feel, still,
that we were doing right, making the right choices,
living our lives right, teaching our children right?
Oh! Yes, that "special day"? They called it our -
"birthday".
WE START EARLY!

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 12 of 22
You need to remember that the pituitary and
reproductive glands are also very closely involved
along with the adrenal hormones. A precursor is an
element required for the manufacture of the main
item.
These hormones influence or regulate many functions
such as salt, potassium and water balance in the body
(electrolyte concentration). Each one controls part of
the body's response to stress, metabolism, your immune
system, and sexual reproductive functions. These
hormones help the body control blood sugar, and
increase the burning of protein and fat. They respond
to stressors like fever, major illness, and injury.
They control blood volume and help to regulate blood
pressure by acting on the kidneys to help them hold
onto enough sodium and water. They support the body's
immune system.
Chemically, all the cortical hormones are steroids.
Steroids are hormones that affect the development and
growth of sex organs. Testosterone (male) and estrogen
(female) are examples of such steroids, i.e. hormones.
Incidentally, synthetic steroids are useful for cancer
treatments, but they might have undesirable
side-effects. When they are used for this purpose their
function then is to alter the metabolism of the cancer
cell growth. It would also have an effect on the
regular cells as well.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
Brian, Tim and Sharon knew Brian would not
remain in camp. One problem he would face is the
age old condition where a profit is not recognized
in his own land. Brian had spent too much time
with these men for them to believe he had attained
Mastership. He would have to move on.
That didn't bother him for he yearned to
return home. He would face the same condition
there, too. Ultimately he would settle somewhere
else where he was not so well known.
Tim and Sharon surveyed the camp. They assured
themselves that all was well, that a form of
government was installed that would not persecute
the captives, that personal revenge would never
take place over rule of law. Being so satisfied,
they left.
Brian, too, said his goodbyes.
Tim and Sharon appeared back in the Henry
kitchen. It was now late and the folks were
thinking of going to bed. Mae and Susan would
sleep next door at Susan's.
"It's late, you two, near bedtime. Aren't you
tired?"
"Sorta, kinda, Dad. We just returned from
South East Asia where we had to help out in a
ruckus that was going on over there. It's all
settled now. Actually before we were asked to go
over there we were thinking of going to see
Sonora. It's just coming up on daybreak over there
so we thought we might just go for a visit."
"If you do, say hi from us, okay?"
"You bet, Dad."
With that little exchange the older folks went
to bed and Tim and Sharon headed for Africa.
When they arrived it was still dark. You could
just see the first rays of the sun beginning to
appear in the eastern sky. The couple walked down
the slope from Sonora's house, to a point where
they could watch the herds on the Serengeti. It
was still and a wonderful time of day.
It ended up being one of those precious
moments between lovers. They sat, held hands and
didn't say a thing. They were enthralled with the
scene, the temperature, the stillness of the day,
the breaking of light upon the darkness, and each
other. They were transported into a place of all
encompassing emotional love. They were in a state
of revery neither wanted to disturb by speaking or
moving.
Eventually it was the full light of day. They
could hear the village alive with the morning
chores, meal and activities. For Tim and Sharon,
their moment in time was over until another day.
Hemno noticed them down the hill from the hut.
He mentioned to Sonora and the family and then
began walking down to meet the couple.
"Hello, Tim. Hello Sharon. How are you two?"
Hemno had been quiet. Tim and Sharon both
moved with a start. They had not heard Hemno
approach.
"Hello Hemno. How are you. You were too quiet.
You gave us a short fright. My you've changed.
You're a man now, a big strapping handsome man.
You're going to be a good catch for some little
gal."
Hemno was temporarily embarrassed. "When did
you guys arrive?"
"Oh, we've been here for a couple, three
hours. We were just watching the herds and waiting
for you sleepy heads to get up. Is it time for
breakfast?"
"Sure is, come on." Hemno was already two
strides ahead of them when he finished talking.
Being used to this kind of life where walking was
the main mode of transportation, Hemno had long
powerful strides that kept him a long way ahead of
most people. It was part of his youth and vigor.
"Look who I found hanging around!" He laughed
as he spoke to Sonora, Mombudo and Kenyata.
As Tim and Sharon came around the corner all
four hosts were laughing. "Hi you guys. It's
about time you got up. We thought you were going
to sleep the day away. You missed the most
beautiful part of it, watching the sun come up.
It's good to see you. It has been far too long.
How is everyone doing?"
The family stopped what they were doing and
all came over to give Tim and Sharon hugs and
kisses, even Mombudo. Now that he, too, lived by
higher law he was much more comfortable with
hugging and a more personal friendliness.
Greetings over, they all sat around the small
breakfast fire. "Want something to eat with the
rest of us, you two. You're more than welcome."
"You bet, Kenyata. We haven't eaten in a spell
and you're such a good cook."
Sonora spoke up. "What are you two doing here
anyway? Just a visit?"
"Well, yes and no. We came to tell you we are
going to be married."

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
I had a funny experience teaching today. I was going to
teach my students the songs of the 5 branches of the
military. In my 1st grade music class I asked, "It is
Veteran's Day Thursday. What is a Veteran?"
One of my students said, "Mrs. Tussing and Class, I
believe a Veteran is a dog doctor."
I relayed this funny story to my 3rd grade class later,
and a students replied, "But if some one went to
college after being in the military and learned to be a
Veterinarian, would he be a Veteran Veterinarian?"
I told this funny story to my 6th grade and one of the
girls said, "And if he didn't eat meat he would be a
Vegetarian Veteran Veterinarian!"
Try saying that 3 times fast!!
