TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
Who cut the American flag into pieces and was actually
honored for it?
Is it ever appropriate to fly the US flag upside down?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
When was the first coast-to-coast airplane flight in the US and
how long did it take?
The first coast-to-coast airplane flight in the US, flown by
Galbraith Rodgers, took place in 1911. The flight, from
New York City to Pasadena, California took 49 days (with
many stops, of course).
How come early American flags don't always look the same?
Until June 24, 1912, no rules were established about the order
of the stars on the flag, nor about its proportions. Flags made
before that year sometimes show unusual arrangements of
the stars or strange proportions. It was entirely up to the
flag maker.

Lower Income Households Going to Web to Buy Real Estate
by Jack Loechner, Friday, May 27, 2005
LOWER INCOME HOUSEHOLDS GOING TO Web to Buy Real Estate
Nielsen//NetRatings reported that the continued
interest in home and rental properties compelled 21.6
million Web surfers, or 15 percent of the active
Internet population, to visit a real estate or
apartment site during April 2005, spiking 26 percent
from 17.1 million visitors six months ago.
Though the overall jump in visitors came from all
income brackets to real estate and apartment sites
during April 2005, lower-income households earning up
to $25K showed the most significant growth with a
million potential home buyers and renters viewing a
real estate or apartment site last month, marking a 47
percent leap during the past six months.
More than six million visitors, or the bulk of real
estate surfers, earned a household income between
$50-$75K jumping 32 percent from November 2004.
Households with income of more than $150K rounded out
the top three fastest growing income groups.
The top 10 real estate and apartment sites collectively
grew 54 percent from 8.2 million during November 2004
to 12.6 million visitors during April 2005, driven by
today's hot real estate market.
Realtor.com, which boasted more than two million
listings, attracted the largest audience with close to
six million unique visitors, compared to second-place
Home Gain, which drew more than three million unique
visitors in April 2005,
ForSaleByOwner.com drew nearly a million unique
visitors, jumping 142 percent from six months prior,
suggesting consumers are taking home selling into their
own hands.
Iris Cumberbatch, senior financial services analyst,
Nielsen//NetRatings, says "Savvy Internet users are
leveraging online resources for real estate purchasing
and selling. Home sellers are using local online
classifieds to sell their homes, and home buyers are
accessing sites such as Realtor.com to conduct their
own property research. Consumers surfing the Web have
more direct and better access to real estate property
information than they had previously..."

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 13 of 22
Let's look at the hormones produced by the inner area
of the adrenal gland (medulla). This area produces
epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine. They
increase your heart rate, open your airway to improve
oxygen intake, and increase the blood flow to your
muscles, when you are scared, excited, or under stress.
In effect, epinephrine increases blood pressure and
heart rate when the body experiences stress.
Norepinephrine also is made by the adrenal medulla, but
this hormone is more related to maintaining normal
activities as opposed to emergency reactions. But too
much norepinephrine can cause high blood pressure.
If the adrenal glands are not functioning properly, the
cause could be due to a problem in another gland. For
instance, the hypothalamus or pituitary glands could
fail to produce hormones that control the adrenal
glands. Or a problem inside the adrenal gland could be
caused by some kind of disease or infection in or
around it. As mentioned before, major problems will
occur when the adrenal glands produce too many or too
few hormones. A lack of hormones from the adrenal
medulla (the inner part) produces no significant
effects. On the other hand, an increase amount, usually
from a tumor, causes prolonged or continual nerve
responses. It would be like always being in a
fight/flight readiness: tense and anxious.
There are two important disorders caused by problems
with the adrenal cortex (outer area): Cushing's
syndrome and Addison's Disease.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

A cheer went up from around the fire. Sonora
came over and gave Tim an extra big hug, then the
same to Sharon. "We're happy for you. When did you
decide this?"
"We've been talking about it for a while but
finally made the decision a couple days back. We
wanted to invite you personally. The date will be
September 3 and we are going to hold the ceremony
and reception at our cabin at the lake about 30
miles out of Pinehill. Will you all come?"
All four spoke at the same time "Certainly."
"Yes." "For sure." "Yes"
"Good, then that's settled."
"Will it be a big wedding?"
"I think so Sonora. We want all our friends,
who live by higher law, to attend. That in itself
is a big group. Sharon's folks have not yet made
the decision to live this way, neither have their
friends, and there will be a bunch of them also
attending. It is a wonderful chance to mix and
mingle. You will know the style of dress upon your
arrival so you can dress in whatever attire you
wish, including your own native dress. Your
choice."
"And can we do anything? Bring anything?"
"No, just yourselves. We can take care of the
rest."
"Tim, I've been working with a family about a
hundred miles from here. They live deep in the
jungle and have seen nothing of the outside world.
They haven't even had any missionaries come
around. This is one of those unique little pockets
yet untouched by the civilized world. Can I bring
them too?"
"Of course Sonora. Prepare them for looking
upon a different lifestyle. Maybe you want to
bring them up for a couple days in advance, even
next week. That will help prepare them."
"That's a good idea. I'll speak with them."
"Breakfast is ready. Dig in." Kenyata gave
orders to eat.
They all ate while sitting around the fire.
Chatting about the things that had gone on since
they last saw each other. It was a fine start to
the day.
Kenyata and Mombudo inquired about Tim's folks
and sister. Sonora, too wondered about Eloise.
They exchanged information freely among themselves
and one looking in would have been able to do only
that, look. This was a closed circle of friends
who were friends on a deeply personal level.
"For your information, Tim, no one hinders me
when I go for water anymore. The village now comes
to see me or Sonora as if we are big medicine. I
smile sometimes at the ignorance of those around
us. I used to be like that and it amuses me that I
would not have seen the truth when it was before
my eyes the whole while. I am glad my family and
your family met Tim. You have been of such
wonderful help to us."
"Mombudo, thank you. Yet you realize it was
you who made the discovery to help yourself. We
did nothing but maybe guide you here and there."
"Do you think the wedding will be like
Oomano's and Romano's?"
"I think it will be something like that. We
plan on asking Sien if he would do us the honor of
officiating."
"I will."
Sien appeared behind Tim and Sharon,
surprising everyone. "I haven't come to visit you
folks for a very long time and I figured it was
time. I sensed Tim and Sharon were wanting to
speak with me anyway, so it presented a good time
to visit. How is everyone doing?"
Everyone around the fire jumped up and came to
greet Sien. It was he who had been the guide for
Eloise, so very long ago. He had also been
instrumental in guiding some of those present. All
were very happy to see him again.
Sien was offered food and they all sat down
again to resume what was now a much more animated
conversation.
The conversations and visits lasted well into
the day. Kenyata served two more meals before they
all decided it was time to leave.
Sien had agreed to officiate at Tim's and
Sharon's wedding. As they had all been to Romano's
and Oomano's wedding, that is all but Sharon, they
all knew what was going to happen. Still Sien
thought it would be a good idea if they held a
practice anyway, for the benefit of Sharon and her
folks.
All was agreed upon and the group said their
good byes and all parted ways.
Tim and Sharon arrived back home in time to
grab some snooze time on the couch before the
folks rose for the day.

TODAY'S REPORT:
I'm winding down my week. I enjoyed it immensely. Mom
and I did a lot of work in our hillside rock garden. We got
our small pond and waterfall running, bedding plants in
and did a lot of cleaning up. The place looks really smart
now and is a wonderful place to sit and meditate. That is
what I'm going to be doing this weekend, meditate.

HA! HA! HA!
Mrs. Johnson, the elementary school math teacher, was
having children do problems on the blackboard that day.
"Who would like to do the first problem, addition?" No
one raised their hand. She called on Tommy, and with
some help he finally got it right.
"Who would like to do the second problem, subtraction?"
Students hid their faces. She called on Mark, who got
the problem but there was some suspicion his girlfriend
Lisa whispered it to him.
"Who would like to do the third problem, division?" Now
a low collective groan could be heard as everyone
looked at nothing in particular. The teacher called on
Suzy, who got it right.
"Who would like to do the last problem,
multiplication?" Johnny's hand shot up, surprising
everyone in the room. Mrs. Johnson finally gained her
composure in the stunned silence. "Why the enthusiasm,
Johnny?"
"Because the Bible says to go fourth and multiply."
