Who cut the American flag into pieces and was actually
honored for it?
No, it wasn't a dissenter. Explorer Robert Peary cut up
the flag and scattered pieces of it at the North Pole.
Is it ever appropriate to fly the US flag upside down?
According to Title 36 of the United States Code Chapter
10, the flag should never be displayed with the union
down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances
of extreme danger to life or property.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
Pay Your Nickel And Take Your Chances!
There was a middle-aged couple who had two teen-aged
daughters. They decided to try one last time for the
son they always wanted. After months of trying, the
wife became pregnant and nine months later delivered a
baby boy.
The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new
son. He took one look and was horrified to see the
ugliest child he has ever seen. He thought that there
was no way that he could be the father of that child.
"Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered!" Then
he gave her a stern look and asked, "Have you been
fooling around on me?"
The wife just smiled sweetly and said, "Not this time."
Well I guess you pays your nickel and takes your
chances.
It's a lot like the internet marketing business, or any
business, isn't it? No sooner do you think you have
things figured out one way but you get slapped with a
suprise from another direction.
Oh! How important to have a goal, a plan and some
faith! It becomes so easy to wander away on a detour -
or get thrown into one, it amazes me. Moreover it is
also amazing how far into a detour one gets before
recognizing it. And, so, we too often waste our time
and resources.
The need for a goal is shown here. Without one in this
internet thing we would literally be like that ship
without its rudder. Let's look at that a minute. Often
we think of a ship, in this explanation, as one we can
see from dry land. But get onto that ship and get
yourself well launched and on your journey. You are far
out into an ocean, hundreds of miles from land or
anything else you can see. Now you lose your rudder.
That is what your goal is, your rudder. It keeps you
moving in the right direction regardless what you can
see around you. That is what you want, it's "keeping
your eye on the prize".
The plan is where, before you left shore you had to
think of how much fuel you would need, how much food
and water, what speed you would travel, what were
icebergs doing this time of year, what communications
and navigation were you going to use, what route you
were going to follow. Once launched you began to follow
the plan and when your rudder breaks you can handle the
situation. You fix the rudder, you know where you were
when it broke, you get back on track and proceed to
your destination. Simple.
Faith, of course, is the power behind all the work. You
proceed to your goal, using the plan you worked out
because you BELIEVE you will reach it. Without that
belief your rudder is broken, and it will never work
properly until you BELIEVE.
Even before your goal, even before doing your plan you
must have faith. It is imperative you become "EMPOWERED
FROM WITHIN" for without that "power" the engines will
never last.
An engine has a thousand parts. It has a crankshaft,
journals, bearings, injectors, lubricants, valves,
pistons, block - all sorts of parts - any one of which
can break or go wrong at any time. Faith is your
"mechanic". Faith is what keeps it all running
smoothly. Faith is what keeps everything running
regardless what you see out the front window of the
ship.
You, too, must be "EMPOWERED FROM WITHIN" just like the
engine that empowers the ship from deep within it's
belly. Without it the ship doesn't run and you can't
either.
It is VITAL one knows and understands the laws of
money, the laws of the universe and the power from
within, if you would be successful.
Become "EMPOWERED FROM WITHIN".
Otherwise its ...

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 14 of 22
Cushing's syndrome is a disease diagnosed by increased
production of cortisol or by excessive use of cortisol.
If you recall, the role of the pituitary gland (in the
brain) is to regulate glands and other functions. In
this case, it is allowing excessive secreting of the
adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) (growth). This
hormone, normally released during stressful situations,
controls the body's use of carbohydrates, fats, and
proteins. When ACTH is secreted by the pituitary
gland, the adrenal glands release cortisol. Now you
have too much cortisol. This can lead to all sorts of
complications such as hypertension, diabetes,
infections, kidney stones, etc. They all relate to the
areas that they control with their hormone secretion.
Addison's disease is a hormone deficiency caused by
damage to the outer layer of the adrenal gland (adrenal
cortex). The problem in this situation is that if a
person gets into a stressful situation, they have few
normal resources available to provide fight/ flight
responses. So stress has to be kept to a minimum. And
how easy is that to do?
Pancreas: again I want to make sure this information is
used only for interest. I'll try to make this simple
although it is enormously complex. The pancreas and its
elements are very complicated. All I am doing here is
creating an overview. Because of the very actions of
these hormones, you must not try to diagnose or treat
yourself. However you have a chance to understand the
reason behind diabetes and you can choose to do
something about it. Be aware of the close spelling of
glycogen, glucose and glucagon. Glucose is a "simple"
sugar. Glycogen is another sugar. (It is derived from
glucose.) Glucagon is a hormone. The pancreas is a
large longish gland that sits a little behind your
stomach, but also around the top of it. The Islets of
Langerhans produce two hormones: insulin and glucagon.
They are needed to metabolize glycogen into glucose
within the body to provide fuel for life. While the
pancreas is also part of this hormone-secreting system,
it is also associated with the digestive system because
it also produces and secretes digestive enzymes.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"Hello, you two. Late night?"
"Hi Mrs. Henry, Mom. We visited Sonora and her
family. Sien dropped in and we had ourselves a
wonderful day while you guys were sleeping the
night away." Sharon got up and, herself, was
rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Then and there
she made the decision to get more sleep tonight
than she had last night.
Tim, too, stirred. Groggy of head and mind he
stumbled into the kitchen and sat at the kitchen
table, looking like a zombie.
"Well, it is clear you two need some coffee to
wake you up. You look terrible." Alewka went over
to get the coffee going for the day.
"So what's up. Did you enjoy your day at
Sonora's? How are they all doing?"
"We had a wonderful day, Mom. They are all
fine and send their regards to you and Dad. They
will all be coming to the wedding, along with a
family Sonora has been working with. They have
been so isolated she wants to bring them here
maybe next week, just to get them familiar with
new life styles."
"That would be terrific. I'd like to see
Sonora again and we will welcome this family."
"Good. We also met Sien there. He dropped in.
We asked him to perform the ceremony and he
agreed."
"Wonderful. I look forward to it. Have you
decided who you want standing with you?"
"Yes, Mom, we thought Tom would be Tim's best
man, and my brothers would stand with him, and I
would like Eloise to be my bridesmaid, then I was
thinking of Pam and Sonora as standing with her.
What do you think?"
"I think that's fine. And how are you going to
extend your invitations?"
"We thought we would go see everyone,
personally, and ask them. It seems like a lot of
work but it will give us a chance to visit and to
see some of the world we haven't yet seen."
"That would be a good idea. I think you'll
like that."
"Hello you guys! My you two look worse than I
feel. Late night?"
"We went to visit Sonora Dad," said Tim, "we
haven't been back too long. We grabbed a couple
winks on the couch is all."
"How are they?"
"They are all doing fine, Dad.
"Mom, where are Tom and Billy? I haven't seen
them for days."
"They went down to visit your sister and then
to see Romano. They'll likely be back at the end
of the week. Coffee is ready."
Alewka poured cups of "heart starter" and all
sipped, eagerly, their first sips. Habit alone had
them all feeling better immediately. The coffee
was the "switch" that told their bodies the day
was getting under way.
"You guys will have to go down to the State
building and begin the licencing process. That
doesn't take too long but you want to get in your
reservation for a Justice Of The Peace early.
There will likely be a lot of weddings that
weekend." Alewka was ever the organizer.
"That's a good idea, Mom. Sharon and I'll go
down there right after we absorb some more
coffee."
Marriage was a legal condition supervised by
the State. They not only needed a licence but they
had to perform the ceremony in a way that covered
all the bases the State required. That is why a
Justice Of The Peace was needed. He or she would
be present at the ceremony to ensure the marriage
ceremony was done to their specifications, even
though the kids did not want him/her to conduct
the ceremony. It was a request the State did not
get too often but the idea was acceptable and they
had done it before. As a result Tim and Sharon had
no difficulty making the arrangements they wanted.
It was a good thing they went down for their
licence that day because, as Alewka had suggested,
they were already getting booked up for that
weekend. The Justice Of The Peace they were
assigned was actually a good friend of Susan
Miles, the Henry's next door neighbor. She had
heard of the Henrys and was rather excited to be
doing this ceremony.
She met with Tim and Sharon to discuss some of
the details and left them with nothing but good
vibes about the wedding plans.

One day Eve was asking Adam where he had been all day.

Eve asked Adam if there was another woman and Adam said
"no."
They went to bed still arguing. During the middle of
the night Adam wakes up and Eve is poking his side.
"What are you doing?" asked Adam.
"I'm checking to see if any more of your ribs are
gone."
