TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

How come certain spiders have more than one pair of
eyes?

What are the eight elements that Buddha believed to be
essential to enlightenment?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

How can animals climb cliffs that are almost vertical?

Mountain goats and bighorn sheep are able to navigate
steep trails in the mountains. Bighorn rams can plunge
down nearly vertical slopes without falling, while
mountain goat nannies sometimes deliver their kids on
sharp pinnacles. Both of these animals are able to
accomplish these feats thanks to having hooves equipped
with rubbery pads that provide traction. In addition,
the sheep have independently moveable toes that can
grip and dig into the tiniest of crevices.

Why don't spiders get stuck in their own webs?

First, spiders MAKE the webs, so they know where the
sticky areas are and tend to stay out of them (the web
is not uniformly sticky because spiders use two types
of silk to spin them.) If a spider DOES get in the
sticky area (which it does only to get prey), it uses
ultrasensitive hairs to tiptoe across the adhesive. The
spider is careful not to get stuck, but if it does
stick in a few places, it's strong enough to pull free.

Microsoft: MSN site hacked in South Korea

Friday, June 3, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Password-stealing software planted
by hackers was active on Microsoft's popular MSN Web
site in South Korea for days before the world's largest
software company learned about the break-in and removed
the computer code.

Police investigators and Microsoft specialists are
continuing to search for clues to the culprits behind
this week's high-profile computer break-in. More
details emerged Friday about the hacking, which
targeted subscribers of an online game called "Lineage"
that is popular in Asia.

Microsoft said it had cleaned the Web site,
www.msn.co.kr, and removed the software code that had
been planted on its news page. It said another company
that operates the MSN Korea site apparently failed to
apply necessary software patches, leaving its server
computers vulnerable.

Security researchers at San Diego-based Websense Inc.
discovered the break-in late Sunday during routine
scans it makes against more than 250 million Web sites
each week looking for sources of viruses and other
infections.

A previous inspection by Websense of the MSN Korea site
the evening of May 27 did not detect the dangerous
software.

"Our alarms went off (Sunday). We noticed it was
infected," said Dan Hubbard, its senior security
director.

Hubbard said Websense researchers investigated further
and quickly updated protective software to keep its own
corporate customers safe. It did not successfully reach
Microsoft officials to warn them about the break-in
until midday Tuesday, a day after the Memorial Day
holiday weekend.

Microsoft said it removed the password-stealing
software from the MSN site hours later.

The chronology suggests the hackers could have
harvested stolen passwords from visitors to the MSN
site for up to three days. But their target --
passwords to game accounts -- lessened the significance
of the break-in since the hacker software appeared not
to collect any network or banking passwords.

The Lineage game and its successor boast more than 4
million subscribers, mostly in Asia, who pay about $15
each month, said Mike Crouch, a spokesman for the U.S.
subsidiary of South Korea-based NCSoft Corp. Crouch
said he was unaware of any significant increase in
complaints by subscribers about stolen passwords tied
to the Microsoft break-in.

South Korea is a leader in high-speed Internet users
worldwide. Microsoft's MSN Web properties -- which
offer news, financial advice, car- and home-buying
information and more -- are among the most popular
across the Web.

A Microsoft spokesman, Adam Sohn, said the company was
confident its English-language Web sites were not
vulnerable to the same type of attack.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 16 of 22

But imagine you feel hungry. If you don't have any food
to give it, it means your the body is short of fuel.
The pancreas then sends a message via glucagon to the
liver to release some glycogen. This glycogen is then
converted into glucose which is now your fuel. If you
continue to "borrow" from your storage supply, its load
will eventually be depleted.  Your muscles, another
source of glycogen, will then be depleted. They will
become emaciated. If you don't continue to fuel your
body (starvation), you will eventually die. So the
roles of insulin and glucagon are to be messengers in
keeping your fuel supply even. Glucagon is the opposite
hormone of insulin. It essentially takes stored fat and
changes it into sugar as means of increasing blood
sugar levels (fuel).

As long as you provide good food, the hormones will
work together to maintain a steady level of glucose, or
sugar, in the blood and to keep the body supplied with
fuel to produce and maintain stores of energy. Amazing
findings are being revealed about what takes place in
our bodies when we eat what is now referred to as a
high glycemic meal. I urge you to study this reseouce
and use it to keep your body healthy.

The medical term for high blood sugar is called
hyperglycemia (too much sugar in the blood). Too little
sugar in the blood is called hypoglycemia. (too little)
There are many people who have hypoglycemia and need to
carry some form of digestible food with them at all
times. Hypoglycemia can affect your body more quickly.
It can be life threatening.  Hyperglycemia shows up
much more slowly. It builds up in your body over time.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Spark girls, on the other hand, Sarah and
Jeanine, were quite receptive to the idea that
their folks had chosen to live by higher law. The
girls were raised to be a little more realistic
than their brother.

That may be because they were not raised to
think they could have everything they wanted. They
found that if they wanted things they had to earn
them. Even during their senior school years they
had jobs that would pay for their fun things.
Having completed university, Sarah was an
accountant and Jeanine was a veterinarian, they
were out in the work force and had a much better
sense of the reality of man.

Jeanine was even so curious as to be
inquisitive of her parents into the deeper
thoughts and ideas about higher law.

Sarah, though, was not so inquisitive. She was
an accountant and dealt in facts and figures. She
well knew people did all sorts of things. That was
fine with her but being someone who dealt in facts
meant she didn't believe any of this spiritual
stuff. It wasn't real to her. Like a lot of folks
she would have nothing to do with it unless she
was hurt and needed help. Then she would accept
help, but carry on with her beliefs.

Jeanine was involved with a boyfriend and
would not do anything different to upset that
relationship, so her interest was only so deep as
to extend just past curious.

Both girls were now aware of the reaction of
their brother. Both thought him foolish. They each
knew his girlfriend and knew her to be a taker. So
long as Darryl handed out the goods she would do
anything he asked. They knew that as soon as
Darryl stopped handing out all she wanted she
would be long gone. She was as shallow a person as
there is. She carried herself with the airs of a
debutante, having come from rich parents. As a
result she had no sense of the reality of a
working woman. Darryl was enjoying the sex but her
demands required he keep her in expensive things.
If he was no longer able, then this relationship
would change.

Darryl Sparks Sr. was wholly aware of all of
these things. He knew his son would have some
tough lessons ahead. He knew, too, his daughters.
They would continue with their lifestyles and
would make out just fine. Each was now happily
employed and thinking about beginning businesses
of their own.

Darryl Jr. would have to finish university and
then head into the job market. He had dollar signs
flashing in his eyes so his Dad thought he would
end up with one of the big firms in Philadelphia
or New York. Either way the boy was in for some
lessons in the hard reality of life as man knows
it.

Darryl Sr. and his wife Evelyn, mused over the
situation. Both felt sorry none of the children
displayed enough curiosity to show they wanted to
live by higher law. Darryl and Evelyn now had some
choices to make. They well knew that living by
higher law permitted them to "engineer"
circumstances to bring the kids around. Yet they
also knew that each person is on their own path
and must make their own choices. Darryl had
already had that discussion with his son.

Between them the parents decided to let things
happen the way the kids decide, by making their
own choices. Darryl Sr. and Evelyn would simply
live each day as they were now permitted and serve
as the example for their kids to follow. They well
knew that as the years went by each would develop
an interest.

Darryl Jr. returned from the restaurant and
went straight to his room. He was still angry but
somewhat settled. He was now trying to figure out
a way to keep this from becoming public within his
circle of friends. He would say nothing, but if
news got out then he had to plan for it. That is
what was going on in his mind now.

He was trying to concoct a scheme where he
would be the center of attention, for his own
sake, not because of money. He decided, a little
late, that he would try out for the basketball
team. He had no experience but he would give it
his all. If he could end up a "lettered" player he
would then be in demand with the girls.

That was the way he was planning. Even though
he was a business admin student he did not grasp a
sense of the reality of life. He was good with
facts and figures as far as book learning was
concerned but he had no sense whatever of how it
was applied or what it meant in real life. That
was about to change.

Darryl Sr. walked up the stairs to his son's
room.
