What is a mantra?
A mantra is a syllable or word or verse believed to
have mystical power.
What is a prayer wheel?
Tibetan Buddhists developed the prayer wheel as a
substitute of the repeating of mantras. The mantra is
written on a roll of paper and placed inside a cylinder
mounted on a rod. Turning the wheel is believed to be
equivalent to reciting the prayer orally. Prayer wheels
are sometimes attached to windmills or watermills where
natural forces can turn them and, in effect, recite the
mantra

Are You Leaving Effective Voice Mail?
How can your message avoid the delete button? What is
missing in your message that might get the call
returned?
Voice mail is your friend. Do you believe that? Most
folks don't. They are frustrated, annoyed and
discouraged when they are met with an 'automated
assistant'. Don't be. Voice mail IS your friend.
Sure, there are varying opinions, two schools of
thought: To leave or not to leave, that is the
question. Some believe that any contact is a good
contact. They always leave voice mail. Others hang up
because they don't want to 'waste' the contact. What's
your opinion? And, what do you do?
Different calls, different answer? Remember, people are
busy, overwhelmed, in fact. Research suggests that an
average business executive gets 350 communiques each
day--voice mail, email, faxes, pagers, and letters.
With that much 'noise', any excuse to delete seems a
valid one. If your voice mail rambles, or, if it begins
without a clear point, gone!
'Cold calling' may be going the way of the do-do bird!
It has been ruined by telemarketers. Even if you do
have a terrific offer, consumers are so sensitive to
sales calls--even if you do not seem to be reading a
script--that hanging up has become easier and easier
for them.
You might remember a day when hanging up on someone was
the height of rudeness. Well, that was in the same day,
when talking over, through, around and under someone
was also considered crass. The persistence and
insistence of some telemarketers has made hanging up a
more viable alternative than letting loose with what
you really think! Folks are hyper-vigilant to
unsolicited connections.
So, if voice mail is your friend, how do you use it to
your advantage?
Voice mail can be straightforward, full-on marketing.
You have only a few moments to build credibility, leave
a clear message and a call for action or decision. Of
course, there are degrees of effectiveness. Make your
messages so compelling folks have to call you back.
If you are thinking that an effective voice mail is a
predictable one, you're on the wrong track. We live in
a 'sound bite, video clip' world. If the message is
predictable, the listener has tuned out.
If the message is all about you, you're toast! Even in
the voice mail world, that old radio station, WIIFM, is
still the most popular. That's "What's In It For Me?"
The answer is "whatever the listener wants/needs to
know".
"Sell the benefits." You know that is the key to sales
& marketing. It's the key to effective voice mail as
well. What can you say that will lead the listener to
know and believe that you have something of value for
them? Prospects return calls if you convince them you
may have something they want...and, soon.
Leaving messages for friends and family is a
spontaneous act. Not so at work. You need to prepare
your message. Be ready before you dial.
I know you've received messages that sound as though
the caller was bored to tears. Make sure your messages
are fresh, enthusiastic and energetic. When I am
recording promos or doing voice-overs, I make it a
point to stand up during the taping. Why? My voice is
more animated. I even hold my hands up above my
shoulders to increase the projected energy. Do the same
if you have several calls to make. It will make your
message stand out.
Leave short, succinct messages. Arouse their curiosity.
That means not giving them the whole message. It gives
then a enticing reason to return your call.
Step up! Confidently TELL people to call you back
rather than asking them to do so. If that is a big
stretch for you, practice on your friends first. But,
do it! It makes a significant difference in your return
rate.
Just a few ideas for making voice mail your friend. Get
a higher return on your time and energy investment.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 18 of 22
Problem conditions for sugar disorders: Diabetes is the
major disorder of the pancreas. It represents an
imbalance of blood sugar levels. Diabetes occurs when
the pancreas does not produce enough insulin (Type 1)
or the body is resistant to the insulin in the blood
(Type 2). Without enough insulin to keep glucose (fuel)
moving through the metabolic process, the blood glucose
level rises too high. In Type 1 diabetes, a patient
must take insulin shots. Their pancreas is not
producing insulin or in such small amounts, that it
doesn't really have any affect. In Type 2 diabetes, a
patient may not necessarily need insulin and can
sometimes control blood sugar levels with exercise,
diet and other medications. This condition would have
developed over time and insulin production may be
chronically short. In order not to take any drugs, the
person would be advised to cut back on normal eating
habits and change to foods low in sugar. A word of
warning. Before you buy any artificial sweeteners,
please do research on them. They can be
problematic. We have advertising that leads us to
believe they are healthy, but they are more chemicals.
Sometimes a condition called hyperinsulinemia (HI) is
caused by too much insulin and leads to hypoglycemia
(low blood sugar). Symptoms of low blood sugar include
anxiety, sweating, increased heart rate, weakness,
hunger, and light-headedness. Low blood sugar
stimulates release of epinephrine, glucagon and growth
hormone, which help to return the blood sugar to
normal. Although the endocrine glands are the body's
main hormone producers, some non-endocrine organs -
such as the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver,
thymus, skin, and placenta - also produce and release
hormones. Again we see the interactions of all body
systems and the effect of one part of your body can
have on a part "far removed", as in the pituitary gland
influencing the pancreas near the stomach.
Please realize that this information on the pancreas is
only an overview and should be researched much
further.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

----------------
Darryl and Evelyn Sparks were long reluctant
to commit to living by higher law because they
knew this would be the reaction of their children,
especially Darryl Jr.. They had worked with him
for many years, attempting to have him see that
his ego driven ways would cause him hardship.
They had been unsuccessful and quite
realistically decided he would have a life based
on his own thinking and his own choices. It is
true some folks seem to be driven as if by
compulsion, into certain ways. Each must learn
their lessons while on the path. If one was so
fortunate as to realize the spiritual life holds
enormous sway over all of life and that it can be
a learned way, then life can be easy, bountiful
and peaceful. Less than that realization and life
becomes hard for one must learn that choices made
so far are usually wrong and leading further down
the path of man's way. To understand the subtle
difference is the most difficult chore mankind
has.
Darryl and Evelyn knew this. They each had a
good grasp of what human nature was like. They
discussed everything. They even worked together in
the paper for years, until Evelyn retired and then
a few years later Darryl sold out. During all
those years of working together they had seen just
about all sides of human nature and reported
thereon.
With this grounding they finally made the
decision to proceed with their mutual commitment
to living by higher law, without the kids
knowledge or permission. They did not want the
kids reaction to impede their progress. It was
wise of them to do so. The children were now in a
position to see and make their own decisions.
Darryl was neither surprised nor disappointed
with his son's reaction. He expected it. The years
of running the newspaper in town plus his own
learned reaction to report on some issues with a
sensitivity that respected the people involved in
the story had caused Darryl to become one of
Pinehill's most respected citizens. He had been a
long time friend of Sam Henry, Ben Striker and Jim
White. All four of them, in their own way, were
influential men in Pinehill. Slowly, all four
committed to higher law.
In making this commitment they all served as
examples for the citizens of Pinehill. As a
consequence there was a polarization in the
citizenry. Many, who continued to follow the
church were still vehemently against the Henrys
and what they represented. Then there was always
that group who were uncommitted to anything. And
there was that group who wanted to follow the
example Sam Henry had made.
Because Sam was the first he was the one
remembered. Jim White, Ben Striker and Darryl
Sparks were now seen to have followed Sam and they
were powerful figures, but it was Sam Henry the
town referred to when pointing fingers.
That was all right with Sam and the others
could do nothing to change that. They all just
lived with it.
Darryl, too, simply lived with that condition.
It was fine, yet unfair to Sam. Darryl's son was
not conscious of the condition nor would it have
changed the way he reacted. He now felt betrayed
by the one person whom he trusted most. If he had
looked at the situation through eyes that wanted
to see truth he would have seen different. His
eyes were solely focused on what was in this for
him and he clearly did not like what he saw.
Darryl Sparks Jr. was not alone. The world is
full of people who believe the world owes them a
living. It is full of takers who will do anything
to gain material goods, even at the expense of
others, in the false belief that accumulating
material goods is the way to fulfillment in life.
So they take from everyone, even those they
purportedly love. Some are that selfish they will
even sap their loved ones dry of emotions or
feelings, leaving them empty husks of humanity.
Then when these can no longer satisfy the greedy
desires of the taker he/she leaves to suck as if a
bloodsucker, on some other unsuspecting victim.
These kind don't want to learn the law "As ye
sow, so shall ye reap." All they want to do is
gain more material goods. The law is their enemy.
Material goods is where life is. That is until
even on their death bed they come to see the
complete futility of their ways. Such is the
possible ultimate end for these personality types.
Only when their eyes are opened as in the
Christmas story of Scrooge, will they become
learned in the wisdom of giving.

The salesman was demonstrating unbreakable combs in the
department store. He was impressing the people who
stopped by to look by putting the comb through all
sorts of torture and stress.
Finally to impress even the skeptics in the crowd, he
bent the comb completely in half, and it snapped with a
loud crack. Without missing a beat, he bravely held up
both halves of the 'unbreakable' comb for everyone to
see and said,
"And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what an unbreakable
comb looks like on the inside..."
