What exactly defines a planet?
There is actually no scientific law defining a planet,
but generally the planet must directly orbit a star,
must be small enough that it has not undergone internal
nuclear fusion (i.e. is not a star or starlike object),
and must be big enough that its self-gravity gives the
general shape of a sphere.
What place receives the longest period of daylight on
June 21?
The North Pole! Hopefully Santa and his elves get a lot
done during this period (June 21 and several weeks
before and after). The sun doesn't set then and they've
got plenty of light!

Amazon Goes Dark
By Susan Kuchinskas
Amazon.com went dark today, in a complete outage
lasting 41 minutes, according to AlertSite, a vendor of
products and services for Web performance measurement,
systems monitoring and security vulnerability scanning.
According to AlertSite, which monitors Amazon.com
performance, along with that of 40 other top Web sites,
the Amazon.com home page was unavailable between 1:21
p.m. and 2:02 p.m. EST. The site also contained
sporadic errors from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST, reducing
total availability of the Web site to customers to 25
percent.
"From all 15 of their worldwide locations, the
Amazon.com homepage was down," said AlertSite vice
president of marketing Ken Godskind. "When you went
there, you got an error in your browser, not even a
page that said, 'We have temporary problems.'
Obviously, this was unplanned."
Amazon.com didn't respond to requests to verify or
explain the outage, but an operator who answered the
company's main phone number said it was probably true.
A customer service rep told internetnews.com, "Earlier
today, they were upgrading the system, and it did slow
it down a bit. It should be fixed now."
AlertSite Godskind pointed out that the 41-minute
glitch reduced the company's total availability for the
month -- assuming 100 percent possible uptime -- by
more than .1 percent. "If Amazon.com has a 41-minute
outage during the lunch hour, it probably left
impressions on a million people," he said.
It likely left an impression on earnings, as well.
Amazon.com net sales for its first fiscal quarter,
ending March 31, 2005, were $1.90 billion. With 90 days
in the quarter, and 2,160 hours, the e-commerce giant
raked in roughly $8.8 million an hour.
Because this was the lunch hour on the East Coast in
the U.S., the damage could be higher.
Of course, a company with the heft of Amazon.com might
consider that chump change. The company didn't respond
to requests to verify or explain the outage.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson
Let's Explore Some Body Parts: The Liver
Why do people turn jaundice (yellow) with liver disease?
Where is The Liver?
It's a large round mass of dark brownish, reddish soft
shiny material, in your abdominal cavity, tucked just
under your rib cage, a little "south" of your stomach.
And into one of the "lobes", is snuggled your gallbladder.
What is it?
It's the largest gland (hormone secreting body) in
your system.
What does it do?
It has well over 500 functions. Two of the best known
are the production of bile to metabolize (breakdown) fats
in the digestive system, and the detoxification (cleaning)
of blood. It gets rid of harmful toxins.
With well over 500 functions, it plays a vital part in the overall
health of the entire body.
What can I do today to keep it healthy?
Avoid making it work excessively hard for you daily. That
means you shouldn't eat a lot of foods with high fat content.
That will force it to produce extra bile. Also drink lots of water - and
if you don't like the taste of it, add something that you will enjoy.
And no, I don't mean an alcoholic ingredient as this will cause
even more demands on the liver. Cirrhosis of the liver is a very
sad and lonely way to end your days. It is preventable. Why
do people turn jaundice (yellow) with liver disease? The
ducts connecting the cells producing the bile will be blocked,
causing a build up of bile in the tissues, especially the skin. This
causes a lot of itchiness. Never playfully poke someone in the
stomach: they may have a mass that could rupture.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"Yes, Bob and my only regret is that I didn't
catch onto it when I was a kid. All men can do
this. It is what their Maker wants. Your beliefs
have caused you no end of grief, and now that
you're beginning to find your beliefs were wrong
you should also realize you hurt many people while
you were going around believing what the church
wants you to believe. They want control of you
Bob. They want you and as many others as they can
get to keep contributing. That is the only way
they can keep alive. Have a good close look.
Your daughter and her husband have been right all
along."
Darryl was hitting some pretty tender spots in
Bob Hunter. Darryl knew that, of course, but Pam
and David had not yet spoken with him in this
fashion. If they had Bob would not have believed
them. But Bob had a very high regard for Darryl
Sparks. He listened to Darryl, hard. Darryl was
saying things that went right to Bob's core. Each
word reverberated within him, shook him. At the
end of this conversation Bob Hunter was a changed
man.
Life was getting to be perplexing. How could
man continue in his present course, without
recognizing higher law? Bob and Lynn Hunter were
in that no man's land where they now questioned
what the church was telling them and yet they had
no firm grasp on higher law as did their daughter
and her husband. They found they were, within
themselves, angry at what the church was telling
them. Bob was not sure of the reason but he was
beginning to see the church had an agenda that
kept the masses under control.
He could also see how and why this blind
belief led to wars since the beginning of time and
would continue to do so.
Moreover, religion kept the people in bondage,
forcing upon them certain behaviors that were, to
others, strange. Some required certain moral
behavior, others required their women dress from
head to foot and show no flesh, even a face.
Others felt that prohibiting marriage was a good
idea, while others decided to loosen up and hold
bingos as a way of raising money to build more
church.
A real close look at all the religious
practices led one to see quite clearly the control
aspects and how the people were kept in bondage to
their own detriment. And the belief system was
established so people were made to feel guilty if
they did not do as the church required. Doesn't
that sound like the way of a kind and loving
Father?
None of these teachings were what Jesus wanted
the people to learn. In fact the church is
specifically turning people away from what Jesus
taught, in favor of teachings that keep the people
in bondage to the church. None have thought the
teachings of Jesus are wholly perfect. The
teachings have been twisted to accommodate the
agenda of man, cleverly disguised as the "wisdom"
of the church. The old adage of a wolf in sheep's
clothing.
Bob Hunter and his wife Lynn were now
seriously looking at the entire concept of higher
law. Darryl Sparks had been the final straw, the
release, the means whereby it was fine for Bob
and Lynn to have an honest look at the situation.
In the doing so, of course, it was
uncomfortable, just as anything new is
uncomfortable at first. The couple were now in
this phase where they were uncertain of any
direction. Darryl, David and Pam all knew it would
be a while before they made a decision, but the
questioning phase was well on it's way.
"Well folks, it is time for me to leave. I'll
talk with some of the city fathers about your
project, David. I'll see if I can soothe any
rumpled feathers."
"Thank you Darryl. Say hi to Evelyn for us
will you?"
"You bet. See you later folks." With that
Darryl Sparks got up and left.
Bob and Lynn along with David, Pam and the
kids stayed a while to finish the meals they had
ordered.
"I was surprised at Darryl. I had no idea he
and Evelyn had taken to higher law. I want to
apologize to you two. I think in the past I have
been a pretty poor father and father - in - law, a
bit of an ogre actually. I did not want to do
that. I was responding to the teaching I had
received."
"Daddy! It's okay. We knew what was happening
and we still do. All is well Daddy."
Changing the subject, Bob looked at the kids
and asked "Have you two ever had any ice cream?"
The kids looked at Grandpa and both shook
their heads.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"Great crisis produce great men and great deeds of
courage." -? John F. Kennedy
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
Mother Teresa died and went to heaven. God greeted her
at the Pearly Gates. "Be thou hungry, Mother Teresa?"
asked God. "I could eat," Mother Teresa replied. So God
opened a can of tuna and reached for a chunk of rye
bread and they began to share it. While eating this
humble meal, Mother Teresa looked down into Hell and
saw the inhabitants devouring huge steaks, lobsters,
pheasants, and pastries. Curious, but deeply trusting,
she remained quiet.
The next day God again invited her to join him for a
meal. Again, it was tuna and rye bread. Once again,
Mother Teresa could see the denizens of Hell enjoying
lamb, turkey, venison, and delicious desserts. Still
she said nothing.
The following day, mealtime arrived and another can of
tuna was opened. She couldn't contain herself any
longer. Meekly, she asked, "God, I am grateful to be in
heaven with you as a reward for the pious, obedient
life I led. But here in heaven all I get to eat is
tuna and a piece of rye bread and in the Other Place
they eat like emperors and kings! I just don't
understand it..."
God sighed. "Let's be honest Teresa," He said, ". . .
for just two people, it doesn't pay to cook."
