ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What is a "blue note"?

A blue note is a variable microtonal lowering of the
third, seventh, and occasionally fifth degrees of the
major musical scale. This note is used frequently in
blues music and gives a blues song its distinctive
melancholy quality.

What is a "bluestocking"?

A bluestocking is a woman with literary or intellectual
interests. The term originated with an informal group
of 18th century intellectual women based in London.
This group hosted literary salons with the sole
intention of discussing the prevalent philosophical and
literary ideas of the day. The reference to the blue
stocking may have come from the hosiery worn by
Benjamin Stillingfleet, an impoverished gentleman who
attended these evening socials, but who was too poor to
possess formal evening wear. Mr. Stillingfleet attended
in daytime garb, which included stockings of blue
worsted.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

When You Mean It - It Works!

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for
prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.

"Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one.

"No," another contended. "I get the best results
standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most
effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down
on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Hey,
fellas, " he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did
was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole."

You know, he's right. It isn't the physical position
you are in but the mental/emotional position you are in
that counts.

So much prayer is just noise because the heart is not
where the mouth is and neither is tuned in to the mind
or your Maker.

Our Maker lives in all of us, in fact in all things. It
is only when we understand that and learn to
communicate with our Maker deep inside ourselves that
prayer become valid.

Oh! We could want many things, even for others. We can
be on bended knee, prostrate, humble as is possible but
if we haven't learned to use the phone the message
doesn't get through.

It is unfortunate that our churches seem proficient at
telling us what to do but lacking in showing us how.
Even when they try to show us they deal with the
superficial and not the meat of the subject.

Prayer, after all is said and done, is communication
with God or your Maker by whatever name you use. Just
like learning how to use the phone, or a fax, or a
computer, if you don't know how to use the tools, if
you don't know how to do it then how is it possible for
your message to get through.

I know there are some who say your Maker knows all -
true. I know there are some who say your Maker knows
your heart - true. I know there are some who say your
Maker knows your needs before you even speak them -
true. But do you know what your Maker says when you
speak or do you speak so much you don't take time to
listen?

We are taught, everywhere, except in prayer that
communication is a two way process. Oh! We can say a
prayer, that's easy. Listening, the other half of the
conversation is where it's at. Who knows how to listen?

As children we are taught to kneel by our bed, say a
prayer that cutely asks God to bless Mommy and Daddy
and my pet goldfish. However once that is said we are
quickly picked up and put into bed as if that is the
end of the process.

I won't say anything about our Maker's reaction to such
a process, but place yourself in that position. When
someone comes to you only asking for things and before
you have a chance to open your mouth they turn and
leave - how would or do you react? When that someone
does it daily, consistently how long do you tolerate
it, or pay attention to it?

When You Mean It - It Works!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Depression And St. John’s Wort

I want to step into a bit of a controversial area and it's
not usually where I tread confidently. I just received
this information about SJW from yet another trustworthy
clinical source. I want to quote Dr. Laz Bannock directly
and also include his contact information. I personally
have seen a tremendous amount of depression in
my nursing clinics and it has touched my own family.
It is disturbing to see the confusion around SJW. My
reason for sharing this information is NOT to get you
to buy it, but to realize how confusing the information
is, and how you have to educate your self.

MILD TO MODERATE depression touches vast
numbers of people, and if you are someone suffering
from this, you wouldn't normally seek medical help.
But you could easily listen to or see the news or read
the newspapers.

Dr. Bannock writes:

"Depression is a common mental disorder that may
affect as many as 121 million people worldwide.
13 Symptoms can include depressed mood, loss
of interest, low self-esteem, loss of sleep or appetite,
low energy, and poor concentration. When
depression becomes severe, it can lead to loss of
ability to function and even suicide. Given the weight
of research supporting the use of St. John’s Wort in
mild-to-moderate depression, it is a reasonable
alternative to prescription medications. However,
the use of St. John’s Wort for severe depression
has produced conflicting results and so may not be
appropriate for people with this condition."

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

The next thing David wanted Old Pete to have,
or to do, was to "listen". David wanted people to
feel that when they "shared" their troubles with
Old Pete, he was listening. He wanted people to
leave with the feeling that they had a
conversation with Old Pete and he had helped them
solve some of their troubles. Holding up his hands
with his palms facing the statue, David sent this
command unto it.

Then David caused all qualities with which he
imbued the statue to also be within the base. The
entire thing would become one and would emit these
qualities. The next and last feature David gave
the statue and base was that it would never be
harmed by anything in anyway, anytime, forever.
From the smallest little boy with a pocket knife
to a tank firing at it with it's cannon, nothing
would harm the statue, ever.

David stood back. He was happy with his work.
He wanted this statue to serve the town as Old
Pete had served the town. It would be a long time
before the qualities David imbued the statue with
would become talked about. People would think they
were crazy to think the statue made them feel the
way it would. Nonetheless it would from the first
day draw a crowd and it would deliver love unto
all who came.

Eventually the word would get out and the
media would try to make something of it, but it
was the individual people David wanted to serve.
He wanted the statue to be a gift to the heart of
each person who came to it.

All would notice how well they felt around the
statue but it would be the warmth the statue gave
off that would be the first thing that would be
noticed. The light it emitted would be the next
and both those would hold the town in awe. It
would draw people. The love they felt would hold
them and bring them back.

Enough for the day, David closed the garage
door and went into the house.

The family was watching television. The kids
thought TV was neat, but they did not become
addicted. Everything new was neat and that meant
everything they saw up here was neat.

David sat down beside Mae Eloise, and watched
TV with them. Pam had explained to the kids that
this was what she used to do when she was a kid.
When there was nothing else to do she would watch
TV.

Both the kids found that hard to believe.
Where they lived, in the village, there was always
something to do. In fact most of the time they
didn't want to go to bed there was so much to do.
And the nightly fires were so wonderful half the
kids in the village would simply fall asleep right
there and their parents would have to carry them
home. Even if they had TV the kids wouldn't watch
much of it.

"Coffee, David?" Lynn Hunter asked as she got
up to go get the coffee pot.

"Yes, please, Mom."

Lynn walked out into the kitchen, "Bob! Bob!
There's someone in our garage. Come."

Bob Hunter got up and went into the kitchen.
Looking out the kitchen window he could see the
light that was coming from the garage. "David, did
you leave a light on?"

"Oh no, Dad. That's okay. That's the statue
giving off that light. There is no one there and I
didn't leave a light on, but all is just fine.
Don't worry about it." David looked out the
kitchen window and the light from the garage was
bright enough to have anyone think he had left a
light on.

The following day was rainy and the family
stayed at home. The adults spent most of the day
around the kitchen table just talking, and the
kids watched TV.

"How long before the statue is ready, David?"
asked Bob.

"It's actually ready now, Dad. I want to think
some on whether I want to do any more but mostly
it is ready now. I might go downtown later to see
if they are working on the foundation. Care to
come with me?"

"Yes. That would be good. I'd like that."

"Good, then let's go see what they are up to.
Just after lunch would be a good time."

"Good."

With that they chatted a while longer and soon
lunch time rolled around.

Following lunch David, Bob and Maz all got
into the car and Bob drove downtown. The rain had
stopped, the sun was out and the day was warming
up.

HA! HA! HA!

Aboard the USS TARAWA for six months, my brother Don
posted a picture of his beloved truck in his locker.
Since his fellow Marines had pictures of their
girlfriends posted, they often ridiculed him for his
object of adoration.

"Laugh all you want," Don told them. "At least my
truck will still be there when I get home."

REMEMBER! - IF YOU SEE IT IN thePEBBLE - IT IS SO!

I am always fascinated how we all seem to be floating from
one condition to another in this spaceship earth, almost as if
we were each in a capsule of our own. What makes us think
anything is any different when we die, is only an ignorance
founded on our lack of effort trying to get out of our capsule.
