TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What bird has been observed plucking hairs from
sleeping dogs to use in nest building?

What male bird will build SEVERAL nests so that its
mate can pick the one she likes best?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What dog runs faster than the greyhound? (Hint: It's a
wild dog, not a domestic dog.)

The Cape hunting dog, also known as the African wild
dog, can run speeds of about 37 miles per hour for
three miles or more (the cheetah may run faster, but
only for short distances). The dog's marathon
capabilities enable it to tire out and eventually catch
faster prey. When not running large distances, the Cape
hunting dog's maximum SHORT-DISTANCE speed is 45 miles
per hour, faster than the greyhound.

What bird uses spider webs and caterpillar silk to hold
its nest together?

The hummingbird! They may be small, but they are also
clever. Hummingbirds will also use fuzzy flowers, like
cattails or dandelions, to line the nest. To keep the
nest hidden and to protect it from water, they'll
sometimes line the outside with lichen.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!™
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------

How's Your View?

It is comforting to know that we choose the way we see
the world, isn't it? We choose both our view and our
response to the view. Why do I think this is
comforting? Because I have the ultimate control to
change my perceptions and reactions. And so do you! For
some, this is not comforting, it's terrifying! What
would happen if you had no one to blame your feelings
on?

You've probably all heard the saying, "You'll be about
as happy as you make up your mind to be." There is so
much truth in that. I remember when I really understood
that truth. I was a young single mom with three
children and had just been awarded the custody of the
children and all the family debts. The choice was
clear. Option One: "Ain't it awful!" followed by
justifiable depression. Option Two: "He done me wrong!"
followed by justifiable anger. Option Three: "Here's a
challenge!" followed by determination to create
something better than ever. Simplistic, for sure, but
it makes the point. When you know that you choose your
perception of an event or situation, you can be
empowered to choose the response to it that fits your
values.

It's usually easy to find a lot of agreement for the
negative responses in life. For example, it is not
difficult to find someone to complain to, and with, in
the coffee room at work. What if you simply stopped
doing that? Focused on the positive? Or said nothing?
What if you made an agreement with yourself that
whatever you said in future would be solution-oriented
rather than problem-oriented? What if you stepped past
the problem and into possible solutions! This is not
denying the problem. Of course, they need to be
identified. They just don't need all that investment of
time and emotion.

Identify and move to solution!

Remember to ask for help! It is a great compliment to
others to ask for their help. It shows confidence in
their ability to generate solutions with you...not for
you!

For today, notice your focus. Is it on problems or
solutions? How quickly can you reassemble your thoughts
to say something that focuses on solutions?

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Your Heart And Your Courage:
Both Belong To You
Both Must Be Nurtured And Respected
PART 2 of 11

When you discuss the body (your body) with a health
care professional, you will most likely be referring to
“left” and “right”. You NEED to clarify the appropriate
area by signing or pointing your hand to it. By that I
mean, that the doctor is facing you and sees you as you
would see your image in a mirror. You know it’s your
right: the doctor sees it as his left, but knows it is
your right. So you have to make sure that you are both
relating to the same location. In a moment you will
understand exactly what I mean. You may recall in
previous discussions of medical terminology, there is a
superior and inferior part of your body. There are many
other terms but for now, this is the one you need to
understand. Anything superior on your body will be
higher than your umbilicus (belly button) and anything
referred to as inferior will be below that imaginary
line. (It has nothing to do with intelligence or social
status.)

The easiest way for you to understand the anatomy of
the heart is to draw a box and divide it into four
equal segments. Then label the top left quadrant “right
atrium”, the lower left is labeled “right ventricle”.
The top right space is called the “left atrium” and the
last quadrant is called the “left ventricle”. You
should have four equal-sized squares. Before I add the
other structures, you need to recognize that all this
mass is muscle, with a very elaborate blood supply of
its own. But basically, this muscle is what pushes all
of your blood throughout your body: systematically and
relentlessly. No matter what is happening to your body,
this goes on at all costs. How does it do that? By
supplying the muscle with all the required nutrients
and oxygen, and by removing its wastes products. It
also tries very best to keep you from accumulating any
harmful elements such as oxidative stress or plaque in
your arteries or infections in your cells. In medical
terminology, it is difficult to separate anatomy from
physiology. While anatomy is the actual structure of
something, it’s difficult to describe it without
mentioning the functions and activities. That is
physiology.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

Shaking his head the workman walked back to
his truck and so did the driver of the crane
truck. While both were going away, David quickly
caused the base to be moved into the alley, with
the special eye pointing upward.

Neither driver could believe it, yet there it
was.

Both men now knew exactly what to do. It
became clearly evident once David had the base in
the center of the alley. The crane truck drove
close and lowered the crane. The driver then got
out and attached two chains through the eye on
top. Getting back into the truck the driver caused
the crane to slowly lift. It was a heavy lift. The
truck sank under the pressure. Soon it was high
enough to clear the end of the trailer. The crane
truck drove slowly forward. When he had the base
far enough onto the trailer, leaving lots of room
for the statue, he lowered the base unto the
trailer. The trailer groaned from the weight.

That was half the job. Next came the statue.
They followed the same procedure.
In less than an hour they had everything
loaded. The men brought large canvas tarps with
them to cover what they could of the statue. The
city didn't want anyone to see it until the
unveiling.

"If you fellas don't mind, I think I'll join
you downtown. You'll need me to fasten the statue
to the base."

"Sure Mr. Wiley. Why don't you ride with me?"
One of the drivers made the suggestion.

They drove downtown and parked in front of the
spot where the statue was going to go. David let
them do their work, for they well knew what had to
be done.

The base fit perfectly. It was lowered down
onto the foundation and the bolts came up through
the base exactly through the holes David had made
for that purpose. The men then took the nuts and
screwed them down onto the bolts.

David created covers to go over the nuts so it
appeared one smooth part of the base and no one
could see the fastening method.

Next came the statue. It was hoisted carefully
and they began to lower it onto the base. They had
to stop because of the eye on top. David
disappeared into the base and undid the nut that
held the eye in place. Once done he came out again
and got up on the base to remove the eye.

He guided the men in the lowering of the
statue to it's resting place. Once more David
disappeared. This time he took the eye with him
and from the inside he began to screw the eye up
through the hole in the base and into the hole in
the statue's leg. Soon it was solid and David knew
the statue would hold. Upon reappearing from the
base he instructed the men to loosen the chains
and let the statue be.

The chains were removed and there was Old Pete
standing for all the world as if he were alive.

The men felt good about their work. The statue
was magnificent. David raised his hands, palms
toward the statue and there was a flash of light.
"There," he said to the men, "the statue and base
are now one piece of metal joined together
forever."

The workmen began to shroud the statue with
canvas. Again they wanted no one to see the statue
until the unveiling.

"Good. It looks like that job is done."

"Mr. Wiley that statue is incredible. It looks
terrific. I don't think the city fathers expected
this. I've never seen anything so life like, and
feel the base. It's warm. We want to put up lights
to light the statue but I don't know if we will
have them done before the unveiling."

"Don't bother. If you come back here tonight
you will find the statue comes with it's own
light. It will be bright enough to read by."

"What do you mean Mr. Wiley?"

"I mean the statue comes with it's own light.
Come back here tonight and see."

None of the men working at the site
understood. They all thought David to be crazy.

The job being done, David left them to their
work. The landscaping had not yet been completed
and would undoubtedly be so by the time formal
ceremonies were held.

He spent the rest of the day with the family,
at home at the Hunters'.

Around nine in the evening he received a phone
call. It was from the man who had hired him to do
the statue. "Mr. Wiley, I think we have a problem.
For some reason there is a bright light coming
from your statue. We have tried to find it but we
cannot. The workmen said you told them the statue
had a light of it's own, but that can't be,
right?"

HA! HA! HA!

It's a sunny morning in the big forest and the Bear
family is just waking up. Baby Bear goes downstairs and
sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his
small bowl. It is empty!

"Who's been eating my porridge?" he squeaks.

Daddy Bear arrives at the table and sits in his big
chair. He looks into his big bowl. It is also empty!

"Who's been eating my porridge?" he roars.

Mummy Bear puts her head through the serving hatch from
the kitchen and screams:

"For Heaven's sake, how many times do we have to go
through this? I haven't even started making the
porridge yet!"
