TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How many Americans died in the American Revolution?
When did "The Star-Spangled Banner" become the US
national anthem?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Was the sinking of the Titanic the worst single ship
disaster of all time?
No. The Titanic has received more press, but the worst
single ship disaster of all time, in terms of life
lost, was the sinking of the German liner the Wilhelm
Gustloff. A Russian submarine torpedoed the liner in
January 1945, as it was packed with refugees (mostly
women and kids) and about 1,600 military personnel. No
one knows for sure exactly how many people died, but
the most widely accepted estimate claims there were
8,600 on board, of whom 7,700 were killed.
Who were the minutemen?
The minutemen were volunteer soldiers who fought for
the American colonies against the British during the
Revolutionary War. They were called that because they
were said to be able to take up arms at a minute's
notice.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
The Huang He (Yellow River) in China is also called "China's
sorrow." This is because it overflows its banks, and has
caused many destructions. One of the biggest floods was in
1887, where approximately one million people died in China
because of the flood.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
No Coincidence!
Some of you may have guessed that one of my favorite
stories is Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by author
Richard Bach.
Well, guess what? "Jonathan" paid us a visit the other
day.
That's right. A ten year old grandson, walking along
the beach, came upon a seagull that did not move or try
to get away as the young fellow approached it.
Since all boys are inquisitive our grandson kept going
toward the seagull. Still no attempt to get away. The
bird was turning it's head and watching, but no visible
trying to get out of there.
Finally, the boy picked the bird up and brought it
home.
It had a fish hook caught in it's mouth. The boy held
it gently. His mother came over as did his sisters and
Grandma and Grandpa. The bird was and is beautiful,
although it was obvious something was wrong with it,
even though we didn't know what.
The boy's mother decided to call a vet, who put her
onto a governmental organization we have here known as
Fish and Wildlife, who, apparently run a bird recovery
operation.
They told the boy's mother to keep it overnight and
take it to a certain vet in the morning.
Our grandson was nearly in tears, not wanting the gull
to die. His little sister offered up some pretty
heartfelt prayers that night and his older sister
watched with a keen and caring eye.
All attention that night was focused on "Jonathan".
In the morning the family piled into the car with the
gull and headed to the vet.
Fish and Wildlife had called ahead and the vet was
expecting them.
The vet had a look. She pried open the gulls mouth and
removed the fish hook, which was attache to about eight
inches of line that the gull had taken down the throat.
Where the fish hook was attached the bird had developed
severe infection and it's biggest problem was that it
was starving to death. That explained why it made no
attempt to get away, no energy left.
The vet bathed the wound with an antibiotic, and fed
the starving bird with a high protein substance of
which the bird seemed unable to get enough.
Prognosis - the bird would do just fine. It would stay
at the vet's for a day and Fish and Wildlife would get
it in the morning, keep it until it was back to health
and then release it. The bird was a mature bird with a
huge wing span. The vet thought it likely caught a
"fish that got away" and consumed the hook with the
fish.
That bird could have landed on any beach. Ours was not
the only beach where compassionate people reside. But
there were a whole host of reasons why this beach was
the right one.
Neat little story isn't it? But you know, it was ...
No Coincidence!

Your Heart And Your Courage:
Both Belong To You
Both Must Be Nurtured And Respected
PART 10 of 11
No matter what the credentials are, if you cant
understand what is going on, you shouldnt go ahead.
There is always someone who has the ability to help you
understand. Ask if the nurse can help you clarify what
is meant. Dont leave until you do know. I made the
following suggestion at a seniors health gathering. I
suggested that seniors buddy up with someone and be
each others support. At first, this was received with
skepticism, but once a few tried it, it caught on and
the doctors were quite in agreement. Doctors know that
there is often a problem. I am sure they also dont
want to be faced with an angry relative when things go
wrong. Misinterpreting a procedure or the preparation
for one, or misunderstanding a diagnosis can lead to
many problems: often serious ones.
I want to add a word about drugs and their side effects
and possible complications. And again this involves
your right to know. More questions
.Would you try a
drink if you didnt know what was in it? You would ask
the person who served it what is in, right? You would
probably ask until you had enough information to make
an informed decision. You would ask people you trusted,
right? With appropriate credentials right? Would your
body, about to be treated with unknown chemicals, not
deserve the same respect? This is the reason that there
are printed documents along with any prescription. And
the intention of this document is that you read it
BEFORE you take the drug. And you would only take the
drug once you knew it would help you, right? How could
you know that if you didnt understand what was talked
about? Would it therefore not make sense to get this
all clarified before you paid for a drug or treatment.
After you had read about the side effects and or
possible complications? As the purpose of every drug is
to make a chemical change in your body, by taking the
prescribed drug, you agree it will be ok for you. You
agree you could live with any possible side effects or
complications. And yes, they happen to some people,
otherwise they would not have to be mentioned on the
document. As I have just mentioned, you need to
recognize that every chemical going into your body is a
chemical that is meant to change something. And again,
as this is YOUR body, it is your right to know what the
possible complication(s) and side effects are. Every
drug has an effect. That is why they are prescribed.
And two drugs will always have interactions: some
desired and some undesired. Do you know what they are
or could be?

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
David began to walk away from the river toward
a path that led out the other side of the village.
Along this path they walked for maybe an hour.
Soon they came to the river again, only behind a
slight bend from the village. David took Maz down
to the water's edge and there, held out his hand
for his son to take. When Maz took his Father's
hand David walked out onto the river.
Maz was neither thrilled nor excited about
walking on water. He had seen his Father do it
many times. He assumed it was natural.
David let go of his hand. Maz continued to
stand there and talk with his Father.
"I brought you here to walk on water because I
wanted you to remember that in your meditations.
You can do this because you believe you can do it.
Within your meditations you will begin to 'see'
and to 'know' you can do this and other things.
Once you believe then you can do."
"Are you telling me, Dad, that all I have to
do is believe?"
"Yes, son. That is the simple secret. Once you
believe it shall come to pass."
"But Dad?" Maz was now a bit confused. "If all
I have to do is believe then why all the other
stuff?"
"Son, meditation keeps you on the path and it
keeps you both thankful and aware of your Maker
within. It is a practice you must perform daily.
Once you reach your center you will be able to go
there without all the detours and roadblocks you
will encounter while trying to get there the first
time. As for our discussion on the law 'As ye sow,
so shall ye reap' it is terribly important that
you understand that to the very core of your
being. Any thought of anger or hurt toward someone
and it will come back to you many times over. You
must be clear about expressing no anger toward
anyone. You can't even think it. You must
understand that anyone who would do harm to you
does not know what they are doing. You must
forgive immediately and deliver love only and
always."
"I try to do that Dad. The kids here are all
kind and help everyone. That's why even the young
ones play in our ball game. We all know they must
learn too, so we are patient with them and help
them along."
"I know Maz. That is a unique thing about this
village. It is run on love. All these, Maz, you
must take into your heart and come to understand
them. Your life from this day will change in many
ways. Your Mom and I are always available to talk.
So is Boolanga, Mazunta, Eloise and when your
Grandma Wiley is around, her too. All live by
higher law and will know precisely what you are
going through any moment you are with them. That
is why you must accept the physical changes that
are going on in your body as being normal, nothing
to fear or to be embarrassed about. Yet you must
control you. Do not permit your feelings or
emotions to control your life or your actions. It
is only clear thinking, Maz, that will deliver
unto you the life you want. No thoughts influenced
by emotions will result in good things. Only clear
thinking will bring the fruit you seek. Once clear
thinking has established a condition you like or
want then emotions can be shared and enjoyed.
However, if you follow emotions first before clear
thinking it will always end up in a troubled
life."
The pair walked back to land and began their
walk home. Maz was thinking and in a pensive
state. What his Dad had just done with him was
take him from the world of childhood into the
world of adults. His Dad was not speaking with him
about childish things but about adult things. This
was not lost on Maz. It was the very first time it
had happened and he liked it. That meant, to him,
that his Father was expecting adult behavior. Maz
would deliver. He enjoyed being looked upon as an
adult and sharing conversations of adult topics
with an adult. He would do nothing to jeopardize
that trust. It pleased him, inside. And well he
knew he had his work cut out for him to live by
higher law. He knew he had to commit. He knew he
had to work at it. And he also knew he would have
the aid of his Father, Mother and others in the
village. It was almost as if a miracle had
happened. He felt like a man. He felt adult. He
felt he was trusted and would be trustworthy.
The walk back took more time. Maz was in the
lead and he was heavy in thought, not hurrying to
return to the village. He received the message,
"You're on the right track, Maz." He stopped and
looked at his Father who merely smiled. Maz knew.
The pair of them ambled along until, finally,
the village was reached. They walked to their hut.
Pam saw them coming and knew immediately what had
happened. She walked up to her son and gave him a
big hug. She whispered in his ear, "Welcome, Maz.
Thanks for being our son." And she hugged him
again.
Maz blushed because of the feelings his
Mother's hug had stirred up in him. But he also
knew his Mother was aware of his journey into
higher law. So the hug did not only stir his loins
but it stirred his head even more. His Mom
accepted him now as a man and not the child of
yesterday. Maz's head was full. This was some day.

Then I heard a familiar voice say, "John, I'm back
