The Santa Claus at the mall was very surprised when
Dave walked up and sat on his lap.
Santa doesn't usually take requests from adults, but he
smiled very nicely at him, so he said, "OK, you can ask for
something but it has to be for someone other than yourself.
What do you want for Christmas?"
"Something for my mother," said Dave.
"Something for your mother? Well, that's very thoughtful
of you," smiled Santa. "What do you want me to bring her?"
Without blinking he replied, "A daughter-in-law!"
The cleverness of men never fails to make me smile. This was
a cute way to put in his Christmas wish, while still having Santa
believe it was going to be legitimate.
Ever watch and study kids. They can be much the same way.
In complete innocence they, using logic they have at their
command, will often come up with the same kind of thinking
and wording.
It is wonderful the way we can put the language together to
come up with what we want.
For some strange reason it puts me in mind of a new pair of
boots I purchased a couple years ago. They are winter boots
and in all the years I have been drawing breath I have never
had a winter footwear that has been so warm, so comfortable
and so dependable. And guess what? They only cost me
twenty dollars.
Every time I step into them I am amazed at how comfortable
and warm they are. Every time I take them off, I don't want to.
Every time I get a chance to talk about them I do. Every time
I get a chance to tell folks where I got them, I do.
Not only are they good boots, but they cost me nothing. I got
lucky and just happened to be in the right store on the right
day at the right time. Wow! I want to tell you where I got them,
but it is a local store, and not available to most of you.
I tell you this story because I want to make a point. We can
all mix words the way we want. We can all put our own spin
on things. However, the bottom line, the very thing you want
to have happen is you want every one you deal with in any
way to think they just bought the most fantastic pair of boots
they have ever had.
Can you imagine, if you were running a business, what it
would be like if everyone of your customers could talk
about you, your services, your merchandise, your reputation
as if you just sold them the most fantastic pair of boots?
That's what you want to do, isn't it?
Can you imagine if you conducted your life in a way that
had everyone you dealt with think like that about you?
Too many businesses put on what they call "loss leaders"
and because they think they are putting it out at their cost they
can properly call it a "loss leader". They think they are doing a
real service to their customer.
Unfortunately they are missing the mark completely. The
whole point behind putting out a loss leader is to accomplish
two objectives, one being more important than the other. The
first point is to draw customers in and make sales of that product
and many others at the same time. This is the least important
aspect of this principle.
The second, and by far the most important, point is that you want
people talking about you. You want word of mouth about you to
spread far and wide. You want your "real loss" leader to bring in
customers from far away and often. That is why, when you put
on a "loss leader" you make sure it is priced so low it is
impossible to get that merchandise for that price anywhere
else, even from your supplier.
Wow! What a way to get your competitors worried!

Bioburden: How Much Is Too Much
How Many Bugs (Micro-organisms) Create A Problem

As already mentioned, the infection “control” goal is
always to keep the unhealthy person separated from the
pathogen. It takes far fewer pathogens (lower
bioburden) to create a disease in a debilitated person
than in a healthy one. So keep in mind that bioburden
measurement is very important. The goal is always to
interrupt their food supply or changing the environment
so it is not a happy place for them to grow. To check
if these goals are met or not met bioburden
measurements are explored. The goals have been met if
the disease is eliminated or the micro-organism level
is acceptable (not a risk any longer).
A while ago, I mentioned the curtains, floors, and
droplets. These are just a few of many ways that
pathogens re transmitted. These are “areas” where the
micro-organisms rest, but not necessarily multiply.
They often “catch a ride” on a dust particle, and flow
on air currents to another place. Now they are in a new
environment and could easily grow unnoticed. Activities
in Operating Rooms, laundry facilities, and waste
storage rooms all cause significant increases in the
microbial bioburden. Would you believe bed making is a
very large contributor to bioburden? All these areas
are connected through ventilation systems. Can you
imagine how far they can travel? How widespread their
risk is shared?
That means pathogens are transported through the air
on air currents. Or they could ride on droplets of
moisture usually from saliva from a cough. It might be
such things as bedpans or a vomit basin: it could be a
hand. Incidentally, research has shown that vomit can
carry a very high bioburden. It is seen as the vehicle
by which harmful microbes are spread. They are carried
along by dust particles. How does it get into the
person? Through any cuts on their skin, or most likely,
through their mucous membranes (nose mouth,
gastrointestinal tract). Remember too that your body
has natural instinct to prevent any such invasion, but
if you aren’t very healthy, this “mechanism is
unhealthy and weak too. Incidentally there is a cycle
of infection and it might well be the same person who
initiates the infection, receives it back again. But if
the bioburden is small, chances for infection are slim,
but as the bioburden increases, so does the risk.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch pedophiles are launching a
political party to push for a cut in the legal age for
sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalization of child
pornography and sex with animals, sparking widespread
outrage.
The Charity, Freedom and Diversity (NVD) party said on its
Web site it would be officially registered Wednesday,
proclaiming: "We are going to shake The Hague awake!"

Chocolate lovers rejoice. A new study hints that eating milk
chocolate may boost brain function.
"Chocolate contains many substances that act as stimulants,
such as theobromine, phenethylamine, and caffeine," Dr.
Bryan Raudenbush from Wheeling Jesuit University in West
Virginia noted in comments to Reuters Health.
"These substances by themselves have previously been found
to increase alertness and attention and what we have found
is that by consuming chocolate you can get the stimulating
effects, which then lead to increased mental performance."

Political group to hold first ever virtual convention

A new political movement plans to tap the power of the
Internet to select a presidential candidate in 2008. Unity08
isn't exactly a third party, though; the group will field a
presidential unity ticket of one Democrat and one
Republican, but they're more concerned with giving a "jolt"
to contemporary political divisions than they are about
creating a lasting alternative to the two dominant US
parties.
One of the group's innovative ideas is to make their party
convention virtual. Rather than selecting local delegates
who fly to a major city and stand for days in a room filled
with signs, balloons, and the most scripted form of
political theater, Unity08 will let any registered American
voter participate in the process over the Internet.
Candidate biographies, recorded speeches, and other material
will be accessible through the Unity08 web site. Once voters
have made their choice, they can select their preferred
ticket through a secure online balloting system in the first
half of 2008.
The group was founded because its members believe that the
increasingly partisan nature of contemporary politics has
tempted politicians toward the extremes rather than the
middle. Unity08 believes that "while leaders of both major
parties are well intentioned people, they are trapped in a
flawed system—and that the two major parties are today
simply neither relevant to the issues and challenges of the
21st century nor effective in addressing them." To shake
things up, the new group has three goals:

Convicted Killer Seeks Sex-Change Surgery

BOSTON
A man serving a life sentence for the murder of his wife is
asking a federal judge to order the state to pay for a
sex-change operation for him, saying that denying him the
surgery amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
A psychiatrist testified Tuesday that he believes Robert
Kosilek will kill himself if state correction officials
refuse to allow the surgery and Kosilek is unable to
complete his transformation into a woman.
Kosilek, 57, was convicted of strangling his wife, Cheryl,
in 1990.
In 2002, U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf ruled that Kosilek _
who now goes by the name of Michelle _ was entitled to
treatment for gender identity disorder, but stopped short of
ordering the state to pay for the sex-change operation.
