What exactly does "equinox" mean?
What is "Nushu"?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Will I see anything special in the sky?(Autumnal Equinox)
No. Nothing much really HAPPENS. But you'll see the effects.
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, you might have
noticed as summer drew to a close that the days were
becoming shorter and the nights longer. On the autumnal
equinox, night finally becomes just as long as the day. As
autumn and then winter progresses, the nights will be longer
than the days. (If you live in the southern half of the
world, like in Australia, it's just the opposite. In
Australia, spring is just beginning!)
What special event happens at the South Pole on this date?
Imagine living in six months of darkness. Now imagine what
it must be like when the sun finally rises. Scientists at
the South Pole are no doubt happy today. Now, they'll have
six months of LIGHT instead of dark.

Optimize Life Now . . . with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
-----------------
Be Compassionate
Are you compassionate with yourself? Do you accord yourself
the same consideration you would extend to another? Do you
say the same things to yourself that you would say to
another in the same circumstances? This is a very important
consideration.
You know the Golden Rule? It says "Do unto others as you
would have them do unto you"...followed by the directive to
"Love your neighbor as yourself". Now, interesting to note,
should either of these principles appeal to you, that it
does not say, "Love your neighbor instead of yourself" or
"Love your neighbor better than yourself" or "Love your
neighbor more than yourself." What happens within ourselves
to often interpret this in ways that make ourselves less,
and others more?
If you examine these thoughts and then reflect on the ways
you speak to yourself, what do you learn? Most folks are
much, much harder on themselves than they would ever be on
another person. They expect so much more from themselves
than from others. They find fault in themselves where they
would be understanding of another. How about you? How is
your self-love quotient? Loving yourself is the only place
to come from if you wish to truly love another fully. You
have to have a gift before you can give it, right?
Sometimes folks think that the 'Golden Rule' comes only from
the major religion practiced in North America, however, that
is not true. It's important to know that a similar phrase
is expressed in all ten of the major religions of the world.
Imagine if every single person who claims to belong to those
religions all agreed to practice just that one phrase for
one month. This world would be transformed!
In the meantime, practice being as kind to yourself as you
would be to your best friend. Hopefully, this will be very
easy for you. You'll notice that, when you do this, you are
much kinder to everyone else you meet. What a gift!

Those who seek peace or quiet think that separation from others
is the way. It is that thought of separation that is the destructive
thought. Peace is found inside when one realizes they are no longer
separated from their Maker.

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 5 of 12
Household products will provide some of your
disinfection needs: ammonia and bleach are the two
common ones. Disinfectants come in three levels of
effectiveness: low, intermediate, and high. In a home
setting where germs are not very strong (compared to a
health care setting), a low level product is adequate.
In fact, just soap and water would probably meet most
of your needs. Disinfection is achieved by several
methods, but usually through some sort of liquid
chemical product. Things that need to be disinfected
usually need to be submerged, and fluids do this best.
Water finds its way into the most hidden places. Strict
safety standards must be met when using these products.
It follows that sterilization which means killing all
microorganism isnt often required for home use.
However you do take home products that are sterile,
meaning the inside of the package has no microorganisms
present. Sterilization is achieved in several ways in a
health care facility, using steam machines under
pressure (autoclaves) or gases or other chemicals. All
require specialized knowledge, training, equipment and
safety measures. This is very costly and is reserved
for special activities. It is an industry and career
all its own. Standards are in place to control each
process. Luckily for us, in our homes, we simply need
to choose what we want (cleaning, disinfection, or
sterilization) and the predetermined industry standards
will guide us as to what we need.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Some new things today. It seems some bugs got out of U.S.
hospitals, mutated to superbugs and are now creating a
pandemic throughout the U.S.
This bacteria is something hospitals have had to deal with
for years. Often when going into a hospital one contracts
worse things than what caused them to go in the first place.
That has long been true, but they have always been confined
to and controlled by the hospital. Now some have gotten
loose and are infecting neighborhoods throughout the U.S.
Things have been pretty hush hush up to now. Yet the medical
community seems to be up on the matter.
In other matters North Korea appears to be rattling a few
swords lately. They are threatening to test a new missile,
one that could reach Japan, China and even the U.S. This
saber rattling seems to be doing nothing more than
escalating at the moment, but look out, this is N. Korea.
Either in response or as a matter of plan the U.S. has
activated a ground based missile defense system. Timely huh?
Scientists here believe they have uncovered the trigger for
leukemia, a cancer of the blood that afflicts millions
worldwide. This could pave the way for the design of new
drugs to combat the abnormal proliferation of white blood
cells and might also lead to new treatments for other types
of cancers.
See you tomorrow!

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Halloween: How did "Halloween" come to be so called?
The old Celtic calendar began on November 1st and therefore,
October 31st was New Year's Eve - the night on which witches
and hobgoblins rode about for one last fling. With the
introduction of Christianity the old New Year's Day became
"All Saints' Day"; and the evening before became "All
Saints' Eve" or "all Hallows' E'en." Though the name was
changed, the customs and the belief that witches rode on
this night - persisted and have come down to this day.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they
get for it but what they become by it.

HA! HA! HA!
Two men waiting at the pearly gates strike up a conversation.
"How'd you die?" the first man asks the second.
"I froze to death," says the second. "That's awful, how does
it feel to freeze to death?" says the first.
"It's very uncomfortable at first, you get the shakes,
and you get pains in all your fingers and toes. But eventually,
it's a very calm way to go. You get numb and you kind of drift
off, as if you're sleeping...How did you die?" says the second.
"I had a heart attack", says the first guy.
"You see, I knew my wife was cheating on me, so one day I
showed up at home unexpectedly. I ran up to the bedroom,
and found her alone, knitting. I ran down to the basement,
but no one was hiding there. I ran up to the second floor,
but no one was hiding there either. I ran as fast as I could
to the attic, and just as I got there, I had a massive heart
attack and died..."
The second man shakes his head..."That's so ironic," he says.
"What do you mean?" asks the first man.
The guy replies, "Well, if you had only stopped to look in
the freezer, we'd both still be alive!"

Compassion is not an emotion. It is a clearly thought out and reasoned

requires is to be a hermit.
