TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

Is there such a thing as a poisonous bird?

What is the shortest war in history?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What bird spends 95 percent of its life flying over the
ocean?

The albatross again! Albatrosses can remain aloft
continuously for years and they can even take naps while
flying. How do they do it? They are so attuned to wind
conditions that they glide effortlessly over the water,
taking advantage of air currents above the ocean waves. They
often fly without flapping their wings for hours (you might
say they "surf" the air). Albatrosses have been recorded
flying a whopping 550 miles per day at speeds up to 50 miles
per hour. In a single flight they can cover THOUSANDS of
miles.

Why is it considered unlucky to kill an albatross?

Superstitious sailors believed that albatrosses were
reincarnated spirits of those who had died at sea.
Consequently, it was considered VERY unlucky to kill one.

Here's To Think On . . . with Ken Darby
-----------------

Get Their Interest - - But You
Don't Have To Fool Them!

My grandfather worked in a blacksmith shop when he was a
boy, and he used to tell me, when I was a little boy myself,
how he had toughened himself up so he could stand the rigors
of blacksmithing.

One story was how he had developed his arm and shoulder
muscles. He said he would stand outside behind the house
and, with a 5 pound potato sack in each hand, extend his
arms straight out to his sides and hold them there as long
as he could.

After awhile he tried 10 pound potato sacks, then 50 pound
potato sacks and finally he got to where he could lift a 100
pound potato sack in each hand and hold his arms straight
out for more than a full minute!

Next, he started putting potatoes in the sacks.

Wow! I love this joke. Here he is leading us on to thinking
grandfather is quite a weight lifter, until the last line,
then he gives us the truth. A surprise wasn't it.

You know that's a good way of developing your marketing, or
of getting attention, or of capturing the attention of
others.

But it has a downside if you aren't real careful. You can
get their interest, but you don't have to fool them. If you
do, then make one hundred and ten percent sure you are
completely genuine and legitimate.

Folks will accept being played with if the fun leads to a
lesson or benefit. It backfires if it does not, for then you
make them look like the fool.

So, when using humor to attract attention, to make a sale or
to make a point, make sure there is a lesson or a truth
within the humor. Do not use humor at the expense of anyone.
Use it to teach.

Practical jokers are fun for about the first joke.
Thereafter they become boring fast. But a joke used to
progress conversation, where it is not a joke at anyone's
expense, can really make you an authority.

Consider that the storytellers are the ones who get their
point across. It has been that way for thousands of years.
If you want to make a point, put it in a story.

It is in the skillful weaving of that story that will bring
your prospect to the end you want him to see. So tell
stories. But remember - - -

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing…
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 11 of 12

Now that you understand a little more about cleaning
agents, disinfectants and sterilants, let’s go back and
see how we would handle the examples I mentioned at the
beginning of this article. First example: the toothless
cherubic 5 month old baby has his soft little face is
covered in vegetable matter and ground up meat. This
mess found its way into his hair. Soap and water is
just fine. Probably a soft cloth and water would even
be adequate. You certainly would NOT want to use any
chemicals on his skin. This babe doesn’t need any
preventative measures. Just pour on loads of love,
encouragement, and fun for both of you! (Remember we
speaking of normal situations: not sick children or
adults.)

Second example: you found a (fragile/breakable)
thermometer that may or may not have been used: you
can’t tell by its dried state. In this case you would
assume it has been used. You would wash it in soap and
warm: not hot water, being careful not to break it. You
would also soak it in some sort of disinfectant, and in
this case that would be alcohol. The next time you
would use it, it would not be practical to wash it off
first, (temperature would automatically increase from
the warm water). The alcohol would already be
evaporated and the thermometer would be clean,
disinfected, and ready. If by any chance you do break
it, treat the mercury as the toxin it is. Open windows
and gather it up gently and carefully on something
where it won’t slip off. Place it in a waterproof
container and phone your Poison Control Center (front
of phone book) for more instructions. This is toxic
material and you don’t want it ending up in your
landfill. Dentists have to take special precautions
when discarding any “leftovers” from your amalgam
fillings. You should too. Then find yourself a new
another type of thermometer.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

-----------------------END DISCLAIMER

I see Michael Jackson is being sued by a former business
associate. It seems he feels Jackson owes him some 3.8
million dollars for work done. Jackson, of course has
countersued for all sorts of reasons, but claims his memory
is "fuzzy" over the events.

Iran says negotiations with the U.S. over nuclear technology
is of no use to them. They insist on their right to produce
what they want when they want and until that right is
recognized Iran promises little cooperation.

U.S. politicians are fighting over redrawing of political
maps. It has to be done every ten years anyway, to take into
account the shifting population. However, the democrats are
claiming the republicans have taken advantage of this
process, in fact done it twice in a decade. The supreme
courts says that's okay.

A number of big name internet companies have formed a group
whose mission it is to fight child porn. That's a good idea
if you keep it up and are vigilant.

This is not all the news, of course, but a few tidbits. I
can't help but notice a general fighting for scraps on the
beach. Mankind seems to have the mentality there is only so
much to go around and they fight like blazes to ensure they
get what they want.

The concept is wrong, folks. If you go inside and establish
communication with your Maker, you will find you will have
all you need and more - peacefully. Think on that.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Kettle of Fish: How did we come to call a muddled situation
a "pretty kettle of fish"?

A very popular Scottish picnic is called a "kettle of fish"
- from the fact that the picnickers catch salmon or trout in
the streams of the countryside and cook them in a large
"kettle" for the main course of the picnic meal. We have a
similar phrase - "pretty picnic" - with a similar meaning.
Since "picnics" are seldom "pretty" and often do not operate
smoothly, these terms both mean the opposite of what they
say.

Becoming an affiliate of companies who sell products over the internet
is a fast, simple and productive way of earning steady passive income.
It requires little, if any, effort but can lead to people buying product for
which you are then paid a commission, because you sent them. It is a
standard method of earning income over the net without making any
major investment. Here is a link that will help you start and easily
maintain a passive income as an affiliate marketer. (By the way, if you
become a paydotcom.com affiliate you have access to hundreds of
products with which you can affiliate.) Click on this link and you will see

Two engineering students were walking across campus when one
said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along
yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman
rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took
off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want.'"

The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the
clothes probably wouldn't have fit."
