Retail E-Mail Recipients Are Valuable Customers
27 February 2004
Bigfoot Interactive reports that 94% of US adults
who have received a permission-based e-mail or
who have subscribed to one in the past three months
have made a purchase from the retailer.
Bigfoot notes that 28% of all adults, or 40% of adults
with Net access, subscribe to or have received
permission-based e-mail in the past three months.
Bigfoot commissioned NOP World to survey 1,019 adults
in January and found that people who receive permission
e-mail marketing from retailers have a more favorable
opinion of the retailer from which they receive the e-mail
than those who do not receive such e-mail messages.
In fact, 91% of those people who receive permission
e-mails are more likely to buy from the given retailer in
the future than those that do not.
During the 2003 holiday season, e-mail was by far the
most successful promotional vehicle for online retailers,
reports Shop.org and BizRate.com, as 86% of online
retail respondents said their own e-mail promotions
were the most beneficial.

Getting married? Here is a neat site for you to see.
(excerpt from Just An Online Minute)
The Knot, the online destination for people who are
planning their nuptials, has scored a Best of the Internet
award from PC Magazine. TheKnot.com is a great
website - it has chat features, a gift registry, shopping
areas, contest opportunities, and offers just about any
kind of advice someone who is getting married might
need from choosing invitations and rings, to reception
etiquette and honeymoon ideas. Who knew there
was so much information like this on the Web all in
one place? It's also a great-looking site.
-----------
I hope and trust these little pieces of information have
been useful for you. I know I enjoy the continuing
stream of surveys being done that show clearly that
a newsletter can be a huge help to any business.

The Mindset Of A Health-Focussed Person
Versus An Illness-Focussed Person
THE WELLNESS FOCUSED PERSON
PART 1 of 2
A little while ago I attended a lecture by a
speaker who had a strong interest in health, but
was not a healthcare professional. And his
perspective made a lot of sense to me. From a
layman's point of view, he could separate his
friends into two categories. I thought I would
share those with you. Now I have been in health
care for a number of years and take a lot for
granted, but I really did think the general public
was quite informed and more "in tune" with
alternative health measures than was the case with
this audience. I was quite amazed at people's
reactions to much of his commentary. His point was
that the majority of people still had a focus on
illness and didn't understand that they could
choose wellness. And what was even more disturbing
for me, was that most of the audience was made up
of women, between the ages of 30 and 55! Many of
them were career women.out in the workforce where
health subjects are part of common discussions. I
thought we women were more educated by now! We are
often mothers and wives or in other relationships,
where we are seen as the main caregiver, the leader
of prevention in the family. In my daytime
wellness clinics I don't see many women of this
age group. They are out working and caregiving. I
just assumed they had a better understanding then
the previous generation. But I think I am wrong.
So I will attempt to state both the
wellness/health point of view and the
illness/sickness focus.
But I want to make a disclaimer here.these are
my points of view and you may disagree with them.
Also this list is incomplete. We could all add to it, probably
indefinitely!
A HEALTH-FOCUSSED PERSON takes full
responsibility for their health. They take control
of suggestions made and evaluate these in light of
their own knowledge and practicality. They don't
accept poor health support. They first look for
all possible alternatives and keep asking "why".
Health-oriented people are proactive. They seek
out preventative measures when they know something
is coming into their "world". They place
themselves on maintenance measures, being aware of
possible negative results if they don't. They
know their body can heal itself, given the right
tools. They never stop educating themselves. And
they ask question after question, and aren't
afraid to ask for yet another descriptive if the
previous one doesn't make sense. They read labels
and find out meanings. They are confident and feel
really good about their level of knowledge. They
are flexible and willing to try. They don't argue,
but use that energy to move around the obstacle.
They may be stopped for a short while, but not for
long. They have learned that any chemical (drug)
going into their body sets up side effects. They
try natural home remedies before the chemicals.
They know what they want and what they don't! They
are willing to stretch or inconvenience themselves
to get it.
In a previous article, I think I mentioned a friend who
was told her son was going to die, a previously healthy
sixteen year old. She had no one to turn to, but just
couldn't accept that horrible fact. Her instincts were
to fight for his life. But no one would give her any
options: any hope. In a very roundabout way, she
heard of a specialist in a large city hospital who
might be able to find the cause of his illness. In
seconds she was in action, and by 2:30 that
morning, her son was in the city, undergoing
tests. Two days later, he was home. Today he is
healthy and productive.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
"No, Sam, but Mom thinks she is a grandmother to
this little one here." said David, pointing to Eloise's
and Mazunta's daughter.
Sam laughed. "I'll bet she does, David. She always
did have a soft spot in her heart for Eloise. That's
good. I'm glad."
Sam went over and picked up little Alianne and held
her. Sam Henry was very tickled with his new
granddaughter.
Ben Striker was walking through the village. It seemed
he could never get very far before he was recognized
and stopped so folks could visit. While Ben remembered
being here, seeing all these folks, he could not
remember any specific one of them. So he stopped
and talked and generally enjoyed himself very much.
He noticed something different than before. He used
to be terrible with names, but now, as people introduced
themselves, he grasped their names and held them. He
was finding he could remember more easily, or maybe
recall is a better word. It was as if all the names were
written on a book and all he had to do was read them.
Eventually he got around to see Mae, Pam and the kids.
"Hello Mr. Striker. It is good to see you. The village is
buzzing with word you are here. Everyone knows. They
sure took to you when you were down for Eloise's
wedding." said Pam.
"Hello Pam. How are you? It is very good to see you and
the kids." Ben asked.
"I'm just fine Mr. Striker. Thank you. And how is your
wife?" asked Pam.
"She is just fine, Pam. She slipped and fell a while back
and split her head open. But I called Sam and all was
made well. Hello Mae, you were there that day weren't
you. How are you?" asked Ben.
"I'm just fine Ben. How is Helen? No problems I
trust." asked Mae.
"No, Mae, Helen is just fine. That day, though, is the day
I finally decided to retire. Life was getting just too short to
stay there any more. So I'm now officially retired." said Ben.
"Ben, that's wonderful. I'll bet you're enjoying it." said Mae.
"Well, Mae. To tell you the truth, I was so busy with
everybody wanting a piece of my time, I didn't even think
I was retired. So I called Sam and told him I wanted to
learn higher law, would he help. He dropped everything
and brought me down here where I could do some
thinking. That's why I'm here." answered Ben.
"That's terrific Mr. Striker. I can't tell you what a change
that made in David. He has turned into a wonderful
husband, father and friend. I'm glad for you and for
Mrs. Striker." said Pam.
"Mae, I feel overjoyed these young folk are doing so well,
but they keep calling me Mr. Striker. Such formality I don't
think is deserved. I wish they would call me Ben."
"Well, you know Ben. That is how we all raised our kids,
to respect their elders. I think it is just fine, but it will be
tough for them to call you Ben." answered Mae.
"Pam, where are the kids?" asked Ben.
"Oh! They're around here somewhere. They don't see
daylight for very long before they want to be up and
away. I have a hard time getting them back here for meals.
It's a wonderful place for kids. They learn to be resourceful,
strong, and independent. The older kids in the village
all play with the younger ones. They don't seem to mind
the young ones being around. That acceptance by the
older group sure goes a long way for developing the kids
self image. It is a good thing." said Pam "It is nearly lunch
time and time they were here."
"I'll go get them." said Mae.
"May I come along, Mae?" asked Ben.
"Sure, Ben. Pam will be fixing lunch. You and I can go
get the kids." Mae answered.
So the pair of them went in search of the kids. It wasn't
long before they found little Mae Eloise, sitting on the bank
of the river with some other girls. They had their feet buried
deep in some sand and were watching the boys play
their ball game.
"There's little Maz. He's in the game. He's the smallest
one there." said Mae.

HA! HA! HA!
A LITTLE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:
Assume you drive your car at light speed. What happens when
you turn on the head lights?
There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. We are made up of
thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for
us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into
the make-up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as
our success. - George Adams
Man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that
sometimes he has to eat them.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are
