TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What is the world's only incorporated city where the
dead outnumber the living?

How did Dalmatians ever get associated with firehouses?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

So how did the expression "six feet under" originate?

There was a time when bodies DID have to be buried
at least six feet below ground. During the plague years
in Europe, authorities in England required all corpses
to be buried six feet deep. It was believed that this would
help contain the plague. (It probably didn't do much
good, as the infection was spread mostly by infected
fleas traveling about on rats. Dead bodies generally
don't spread disease.)

Is it true that cemeteries are illegal in San Francisco?

Yes. In 1902, authorities in San Francisco outlawed
further burials. They were acting on concerns about public
health and the need for space for the living. Large
cemeteries were forced to remove their bodies to
other locations. Only two cemeteries still exist in the
city, and they don't accept any new burials.

Raising the Standard!
by Ken Darby

Increasingly I see stories like the two we have for you today.

It seems the large manufacturers of products and services
are beginning to see the real value in internet advertising.
They are beginning to hire high power advertising agencies
and placing ads on the net.

The standard is being raised. Soon they will be on the net
nearly everywhere we look and the concept of internet
marketing as we know it today is going to change.

The "big boys" have much deeper pockets than most folks
trying to market products on the internet today. They will
be producing high quality ads and begin getting them out
to more places for us to see. As they find it fruitful they will
become even more involved.

That is just one more step toward the net becoming such
an important daily tool for us we will soon forget it is even
there. It will be just something we do for a living, or for
living.

Because of this professionalism hitting the net, the smaller
marketer must change their tactics. The small brick and
mortar business, for example, will not compete with the
big boys at any level. They need to become immediately
and deeply involved in the use of newsletters to further
their cause. They need to be more "personal" and their
newsletters need to go out with regularity and frequency.

Failure to do this will soon have a lot of businesses failing.
The condition is changing all around us. The internet is
becoming one of those things that takes a persons time
and loyalty away from "real life" and your business. It just
makes sense that to do your advertising, then, you best
go to where your customer is, on the internet. The
newsletter is the best vehicle, the least expensive and
gets the best results. Don't believe me? Go have a
look at http://www.thenewsshop.com/emarketexcerpt.html

Unique Film Promotion Drives Fans To The Web
By Ross Fadner Staff Writer
Thursday, March 04, 2004

Marketers are beginning to use the Internet as a branding
medium, and rich media appears to be the tool that is
making Web sites attractive destinations for major brands.
Entertainment properties and Hollywood studios are
particularly interested in promoting their content on the
Web. At the DoubleClick Insight 2004 conference in
New York City Tuesday, media agency PHD and
entertainment marketing firm Deep Focus discussed
case studies of successful online campaigns they ran
for clients DaimlerChrysler and Miramax, respectively.

DaimlerChrysler is the exclusive sponsor of the Web
site for NBC's highly successful show "The Apprentice."
Omnicom Media Group's PHD handles DaimlerChrysler's
advertising. The promotional event the agency ran on
the Web site for "The Apprentice" allowed viewers to
vote on the car to be awarded to the show's last man
or woman standing.

---------Excerpt from Just An Online Minute

There are some noteworthy findings on consumers'
online behavior during Sunday night's broadcast of the
Academy Awards. Research conducted by Claria Corp.,
formerly known as Gator, found that 31 percent of
Internet users were online while they watched the
Oscars broadcast on ABC, an 11 percent increase
over last year.

Of Claria's 40 million active users, more than over
750,000 viewed the Yahoo! Movies 76th Academy
Awards website in the week leading up to the show.
Some of the other findings:

Diet Pepsi, which sponsored the Yahoo! Movies
website, scored a 52 percent aided recall for the brand,
while Cadillac, which tied in with Oscar.com, scored a
74 percent aided recall for its brand.

Oscar TV advertisers such as Hewlett-Packard and
American Express succeeded in driving traffic to their
sites during the broadcast: HP saw a 131 percent
increase in traffic, while AmEx achieved a 105
percent spike.

During the ABC broadcast, traffic to Oscar.com surged
700 percent versus its average daily site traffic, and
Yahoo! Movies racked up 50 percent of its total traffic
for Oscar night during the show for a 150 percent
increase in traffic by the end of the broadcast.

If these findings are accurate, there is every reason to
believe that consumers, particularly those with
always-on broadband connections, are tuning in
online during special event TV programming. Their
PCs are fired up and their toggling between TV and
the Web, making for some interesting behavior that
marketers and media types need to watch--closely.

Thoughtful Gifts Of Love For Anyone
With Physical Disabilities
PART 3 of 10

You can quite easily adapt their kitchen to a
practical height and have things on hand to help
with clean ups. Exchange a regular table and chair
set for a door (local building center) or slab of
wood on two TV tables of the correct height, and
then tuck chairs under it. This could double as a
meal preparation and eating area.Easy to work at.
Easy to clean! Here are a few ideas that will jog
your head for ideas as you observe the activities.
Get them to always have wax paper handy under
anything that is being mixed...or a cloth to catch
the spills. Or have them mix things in the sink so
the clean up is quick and complete. Have a small,
safe slab of wood by the sink for them to stand
on, but take care so they can't trip over it.
Cover it with slip proof material. (When you go to
these local building places, take a bit of time to
look around. There are so many ideas and
alternative uses for items you discover! Your head
will swim with ideas! You will never look at
another thing without thinking of several other
uses.) Encourage your special friend, when doing
meal preparation, to keep a sink of warm sudsy
water ready for immediate washing ups. This makes
cleaning up so easy! And encourage them to avoid
the use of mixing chemicals as these could add to
their breathing problems. Check out all the
doorknobs yourself. Do they need some resistive
material to help turn them? Try elastic bands,
sliced tennis balls, or rubber gloves. Medical
supply places have doorknob covers. Don't exchange
the doorknobs unless it's really necessary. The
original ones will be lost and the replacement
ones are expensive.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

Finally, he made his way to the phone. He called 911 and
before long help was on the way.

For some reason the young man still held the gun. He went
into the kitchen and sat at his usual spot at the table. The
place was a mess.

There was this strange man, still unconscious, bleeding,
lying now on his back on the kitchen floor. There were
whiskey bottles scattered here and there, with whiskey spilled
on the floor. The place reeked of blood and whiskey, with
whiskey winning the odor war.

Then there was his father lying face down on the floor at the
foot of the stairs, in a pool of blood and other matter.

His mother came down the stairs, still naked, but holding a
towel over herself attempting to keep her appearance decent.
She was still fighting the affects of alcohol, but her thinking,
even while drunk, still took in the gravity of the situation.

There was blood on the towels that wrapped her, and there
was blood dripping on the floor wherever she walked. She
cried.

Sirens were heard outside. They heard men talking and
running. There was a knock on the door. The young man
got up to answer. He dropped the gun. There was another
knock. He was just about to the door now.

Just as he was reaching for the door it crashed open and in
came a policeman pointing a gun. "GET DOWN ON THE
FLOOR!" the policeman ordered. The young man was
stunned. He did not move. "GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR!
he was ordered. The policeman roughly grabbed his hair
and pulled him to the floor. Another policeman came in
behind the first and stood by the young man commanding
he put his hands on the back of his head.

Still other policemen came running into the house, all with
weapons drawn. It took all of thirty seconds for them to
secure the house and know there were no others present
than those they now saw.

They grabbed the young man and ripped him to his feet,
nearly breaking his arm in the process.

Then the questions. Questions, questions. Again and again
they asked the same questions. They had one ambulance
there to take the boys father to hospital. Then they called
two more, one for the male on the kitchen floor, and one
for the boys mother.

The forensics team were let in and began their work. All
the while the boy was asked questions. More questions.

Finally they arrested him, read him his rights, handcuffed
him and took him outside and to a police car. Outside all
the neighbors were out, watching. Everywhere he looked,
on the lawns, there were men and women watching, Kids
were watching.

The police opened the door to the car and viciously
shoved him in. The car drove off.

They had put the handcuffs on too tight. There was nothing
he could do to relieve the pain. He hurt all the way down
to the police station.

Finally, they arrived. He was booked. He emptied his
pockets and taken to a cell where he was given a pair of
coveralls and told to get dressed in them, after washing
his own urine off himself. The police didn't use the word
urine, neither were they polite, courteous, or commonly
gentle. Everywhere they took him they pushed and shoved.
They did not care if they hurt him or not.

The young man cried nearly all the way, all day. He had
no idea what the time was, or what was happening. He
cried himself to sleep on the bunk. The next thing he
knew they were dragging a plate or something along
the bars to his cell. The rattle woke him. "Here's your
meal, boy. It's too good for you if you ask me." said a
policeman as he shoved a plate of food under the bars
of the door. You can drink water from your sink.

Then he left. Slowly the young man got up and went to
the food. He picked it up and put it on his lap as he sat
on his bed. He ate. He was astonished at how hungry he
was. He ate fast. He was so busy eating he never saw the
man come to his door.

"You are a SINNER! Young man you are a sinner in the
eyes of God and you shall perish in hell. You must confess
your sins to me, now or you will perish.

You talk about ambulance chasers! Well, here was what
you might call a "Sinner Chaser". The priest came to
the police station often, thinking he would find someone
he could "save", and that way make him think he was
doing good work.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"Ignorance is not bliss, it is oblivion."
---- Philip Wylie

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

This morning on the radio I heard excerpts of
Senator John Edwards' speech to his supporters after
finishing second in the Iowa caucuses:

"You and I will build together. We will say 'no' to
kids going to bed hungry, 'no' to kids who don't
have the clothes to keep them warm, and
'no' to Americans working full time and living
in poverty."

I thought that's what Democrats have been
accusing Republicans of saying to these
people for years?
