TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What is "heterochromia iridis"?

Is it true the US twenty dollar bill will soon be colorful?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Genetically speaking, how can that happen?

At one time, it was believed that eye color was
inherited from a single gene. But scientists no longer
think that. Instead, they believe eye color is a
polygenic trait and that the color of your eyes is
determined by the amount of melanin (a pigment,
also found in your skin) present. Brown eyes, for
instance, have lots of melanin, while blue eyes have
very little. (That's why dark-skinned people, with lots
of melanin in their skin, tend to have brown eyes,
while fair-skinned people often have blue eyes.)
People can have eyes of different colors if the iris
of one eye has less melanin than the other.

Why do babies often have blue eyes at birth?

Babies are often born with blue eyes that lack melanin,
but begin to produce more melanin later (which causes
their eyes to change color).

Why Good Things Happen to Good Companies
12 March 2004

There are no miracle drugs to immunize a company's reputation,
but consistent and meticulously executed cause marketing
programs can keep a brand strong when storms hit.
By David Berkowitz

"It doesn't bother me to see Stewart smacked around. If she
had an ounce of common sense or self-awareness, she'd
have known how smelly her ImClone sale looked and canceled
it, retroactively, when the government began sniffing around.
Better yet, she could have given the money to charity.... If she'd
donated a nice round $60,000 to a noble cause as an act of
contrition to clear her name, you think she'd have ended up
on trial? No way."
--Allan Sloan, Newsweek,
15 March 2004,
"She's a Criminal? Give Me a Break."

Could a little charity go such a long way?

The guy who literally wrote the book on cause marketing
isn't convinced.

After scorning Mr. Sloan's "flip, cynical and dismissive take,"
Cause Marketing author Joe Marconi commented,
"Ms. Stewart should have had the benefit of better counsel,
both legally and in the PR sense." Marconi continued that
she would have best helped her case by coming forward,
admitting her actions could be perceived as questionable
and asking "to be judged on her career and her public
record as a whole rather than on a single, obviously
ill-conceived decision."

What's interesting is that the author of Cause Marketing
doesn't view cause marketing as a magical amulet one
can don to make all detractors vanish. Instead, Marconi
contends that doing good is hard work. It requires ongoing
commitments, not just one conveniently-timed donation.
It demands thoughtful, careful planning of partnerships so
that both the giver and benefactor understand what they
are bringing to and getting out of the pairing. An old
proverb humbly understates, "If one acquires a good
name, he acquires something for himself." The implication
is that good name can't be acquired overnight.

The fact that charities rank low among organizations
US consumers trust, according to Forrester, makes forging
a smart partnership both more important and more difficult.

Health Question About
Fibromyalgia & Arthritis
PART 3 of 5

HEALTH QUESTION: Hi there, I have a question. I had an x-ray
confirming I have "degenerative lippings" in my neck. Is this
Osteoarthritis? I am 32, what can I expect to happen in the
future as I age?
(1) Will this cripple me?
(2) I also have fibromyalgia.... which is painful, but at least it isn't
degenerative!
(3) Any help you can offer in answering my questions is greatly
appreciated... as I have searched a bunch of different websites,
but none actually specify what "degenerative" lippings are.
(4) Since I have had the Fibromyalgia in my upper back, I have the
degenerative lippings, I have had constant "bloatedness"
(5) I now have a sluggish bowel, occasional swelling of my
leg calves, eyes sore & swollen, jaw aches, inflamation in
my shoulders, neck & upper back. I never sleep well, wake
sore and unrefreshed. I feel like I am 90
(6)! Thanks so much for you're time.

Now let's look at Fibromyalgia. Is this normal aging or another
degenerative condition? Medline defines Fibromyalgia is a
"common condition characterized by widespread pain in joints,
muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Some other problems
commonly linked with fibromyalgia include fatigue, morning
stiffness, sleep problems, headaches, numbness in hands and
feet, depression, and anxiety. Fibromyalgia can develop on its
own, or secondary to other musculo-skeletal conditions, such as
rheumatoid arthritis, or systemic lupus. Does this sound like
our reader's situation? " (So if our "hockey player has
arthritis, he would have very achy joints, but would have some
energy to play. If (s)he had Fibromyalgia, they would have
tremendous difficulty just getting out of bed or even being
motivated to play anything!)

Here we have a condition mainly to do with soft tissues, but
also involving the joints. And arthritis has been mentioned in
relation to Fibromyalgia. That would be mainly the bone tissue
connection.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000427.htm#Definition
I quote the reader "I also have fibromyalgia.... which is
painful, but at least it isn't degenerative!" (3) Does this
sound like an abnormal condition like degeneration or a normal
"aging" process? Does everyone get this as they get older? No.
So it is a degenerative condition.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

At that instant Tom hollered "STOP". The words froze the
man in mid act.

Leaving the man in that position the boys, with Billy,
walked down the sidewalk and away.

"How long will he stay that way?" asked Billy.

"He'll be fine Billy. Give him fifteen minutes and he'll
return to movement again. Then he'll be storming mad
all over again. I hope your mother has sense enough to
get out of there and to a safe house. She should go to
the shelter for battered women. But we cannot interfere.
She must make the choices as to where she wants to
live, just as you." said Tim.

"I thought I told you she was not my mother. I don't like
her, or him. They are foster parents and the only reason
they do that is the state pays them money to look after us.
They only reason they want that money if for booze. They
don't even let us have good food. All we get is
junk." said Billy.

"I know, Billy. I'm sorry. I won't refer to her that way again.
Tom and I thought you might want to come live at our
place, at least until you decided to find another place to
live. We can have our Dad talk with the
authorities." said Tim.

"Oh sure! Now you want to be heros. You think that
looking after me will clear your conscience or something,
just like every other do-gooder?" Billy was frustrated with
the twists and turns life threw at him. He had yet to meet
someone he could trust. That feeling that everyone was
working on their own agenda blurred his vision to truth
right in front of him. He knew not who he was dealing with.
That Tim and Tom were Henrys, had not really dawned
on him yet.

Tim and Tom both began to broadcast a stronger love
toward Billy. It was clear he was fighting for acceptance.
He just wanted to be loved, accepted for who he was. He
was showing he wanted what everyone wants.

"Billy, we are not doing this for our sake. That would be
dishonest. We do not need to feel like heros. We can do
anything we wish and have no need for mankind to think
of us in any way whatever. You think I wanted to be
thought of as a hero when I caused your ribs to be whole?
You think Tom wanted to be a hero when he caused that
woman to be made whole, and cleaned up the place? You
better stop and have a look with your eyes wide open Billy.
Think hard on what happened back at your
place." said Tim.

"That's right! How did you guys do that? What are you
some kind of magicians?" asked Billy.

"Billy, what do you think we have been talking to you about?
Have you not understood the law 'As ye sow, so shall ye
reap.'? What we did is live by higher law and the first part
of that living is a clear understanding of this law. As you
grow in this understanding you become more able to do
things. To do as we have done requires a clear desire on
your part to do your Maker's work. You must not desire this
power to do things for you. That is looking on it as man looks
on things, the old 'what's in it for me?' syndrome. When you
commit, against which there is no alternative, you, too, shall
live by higher law, Billy. But you will never achieve it if your
desire to have the power is to satisfy your own ego." said Tom.

"I'm not sure what you mean. I thought everybody wanted to
get new cars, new homes, new things, or all the other things
money can buy. That is what those people back there think.
Even schools teach that. The only reason they want us to
get an education is so we can go out and earn money, to
keep the system alive. They say they are doing it for us, but
really they are doing it for themselves." said Billy.

"Not all the world is bad, Billy. You look at the world through
emotion. No one can see clearly when they do that. They
especially foul up their worlds when they look through anger,
greed, fear. Most people think the more they have, the
stronger they are. In fact the more you have the weaker
you are. Think not with emotion, Billy. Think instead without
emotion that you may see the more clearly. Pronounce
nothing good or bad. Just accept things as they are, neither
good or bad, but just are. Then with clear thinking you can
make decisions and take action. If you think with emotions
you will always be reacting. There is no direction or purpose
in reacting, Billy, only with clear thinking." said Tom.

They had reached the Henry household and the boys
walked in. Sam and Alewka were seated at the kitchen table
sipping on a coffee, and discussing the idea of having Billy
live with them. They knew the answer would be yes, but they
were thinking about all the difficulties that would arise, and
what they would do about them.
