When does summer officially end?

At the autumnal equinox, which this year is

-----------------

From Around The Net!
by Ken Darby

Today we have some interesting excerpts for you. They
both come from eMarkerter Daily.

The first deals with internet security, worms, attacks and
the like. It appears as if hackers are stepping up their attacks.
The biggest problem seems to be a worm, accounting for
twenty five percent of the problem.

Funny thing, I keep saying to my friends that if they get a
Mac they won't have these problems. They don't listen.

The second excerpt deals with a Small Business Association
report that small businesses are not taking advantage of
the what the internet can do for them. The report seems to
indicate that price of services is the reason for the low
response rate. My interpretation is that ignorance is the
problem. I mean that benevolently. I just don't see many
business people out there who have a real good grasp
on what the internet can do for them. It'll come.

-------------EXCERPT ONE

Corporate Online Security Concerns
17 March 2004

A newly-published report from Internet security firm
Symantec indicates that the number of online corporate
security breaches grew significantly between the first
and second halves of 2003 from just one-sixth of
companies to one-half.

Over the second half of 2003, 43% of worldwide
online attacks were worms or blended threats -- down
from 78% during the second half of 2002. Symantec
finds that the SQLExp worm, also known as "Slammer,"
accounted for 25% of the Internet attacks that occurred
between 1 July and 31 December last year.

Symantec bases its findings on the analysis of results
tracked by its DeepSight Threat Management System
and its Managed Security System. Looking at
"severe events", or multiple attacks, Symantec finds
that 7.8 out of every 10,000 severe events were
experienced by the financial services industry. On the
other hand, among the attackers that targeted a specific
industry, 4.9% went for high-tech companies, while 3.6%
targeted the e-commerce industry.

-------------EXCERPT TWO

Net Services in the Small Business Arena
18 March 2004

The Small Business Administration (SBA) reports while
most small businesses in the US (98%) have wire-line
telephones, and a vast majority have mobile phone lines,
58% have high-speed Internet and 38% have dial-up
access.

The SBA notes that the relatively low penetration rate
of Net access among small businesses could be due
to price, service availability or the mere nature of small
businesses.

The SBA bases its findings on a survey of 458 small
businesses, or those companies with between zero
and 499 employees, presented in its report ìA Survey
of Small Businessesí Telecommunications Use and
Spending,î written by TeleNomic Research. Though
the report cites price of Internet access as one of the
possible reasons for a lower level of adoption among
small business in the US, it also finds that small
businessesí average monthly payments for dial-up -- even
broadband Net access -- are considerably lower than
what theyíre paying for local, long distance or combined
telephone service.

------------

That's all for today folks. Have a good weekend.

Health Question On Positioning
PART 2 of 4

If they are under the influence of some sort of chemicals, or if
this is a drug-induced sleep, this would place the patient into
a different category of care. This could be the case if they
have to have ICU nursing care. What was not available was the
kind of medication, age, or the state of the patient. So you
would guessing some of several possibilities. If a person is in
ICU, and the question is raised about possible injuries to
limbs, I might assume they are under some sort of chemical
influence. That could easily include alcohol and or recreational
drugs.

If the patient was conscious, you would not be turning them
unless they requested it. So for our purposes, I will assume the
person is under the influence of some sort of chemicals and is
unable to move by themselves. If the person was comatose or
failed to respond to normal stimulation, (pain reaction on
certain body points) then you would treat this as an unconscious
patient. And then full care would be provided. This means you
would be turning the person regularly unless they had been
placed on an alternating pressure mattress. (A mattress filled
with air or water that raises alternating parts of its surface
automatically.) Most policies would state that the person has to
be repositioned every two to three hours.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

"Billy, you can stay here as long as you want. If you decide
to stay here rather than return to your foster home, I will go
down to the authorities with you and we will have them
allow you to stay here. However, Billy, that is your choice.
We don't force anyone to do anything around here. We
expect you to contribute to the affairs, the fun, the
maintenance and the joy of all household duties, activities
and chores. That's all. We all participate in this house.
That's the only rule." said Sam.

"You really mean I can stay here and live with you?" said
Billy, still not believing.

"Yes, Billy, that is what I mean. But it is your choice, not
mine." said Sam.

"And what do I have to do?" asked Billy.

Sam smiled at him. "Billy, as we go through life we consume
things, use things. When we do that then there is always
mess and wear and tear. What we do in this family is we like
to keep things neat, clean and tidy. That way things last longer
and run better. Take this meal, for instance. Mrs. Henry had to
do work to get it prepared. We appreciate that, so you will see
that when the meal is over the rest of us chip in and clean up
the mess. That way we all share in the benefits and the work.
It is fair for everyone. We like to keep our bedrooms clean, the
yard clean and the yard work done, the garage clean, the cars
clean, our clothes clean, and so on. That way, when we do a
little bit every day, then it is not a burden to us or to each other.
Can you see that Billy? I suspect you didn't have to do any of
that in your foster home. So there might be some changes you
will undertake here. We expect you to be honest with us as
we are and will be with you. We expect you will not lie, cheat
or steal. If you follow all those things, Billy, you are a very
welcome addition to our household."

With that being said, the boys, Tim and Tom got up and
began to clear the table, putting the dishes in the sink. They
were capable of cleaning them instantly, but for Billy's sake
they did things the old fashioned way.

Billy watched them, not knowing what to do.

Finally Tim took a dish towel by one corner and aiming at
Billy snapped it at his legs. "Come on here lazy bones. Time
for you to give us a hand."

The fun was on and the boys jostled and had fun while getting
the dishes done. "Hey, let's go down to the school and get in
a bit of basketball!" said Tim.

"Hey! That's a good idea." said Billy. Billy loved basketball,
and he was good at it.

The evening was upon them. It meant by usual standards
they would not have too much time. However, these were
the Henry boys, and darkness would not hamper them.

As the evening wore on Tim and Tom caused the basketball
court to remain well lit, as if by daylight. There was light
everywhere, casting no shadows.

Billy, intent on the game, didn't even notice the changes
from daylight to darkness and how the outside court where
they were playing stayed lit. There were no street lights or
yard lights that kept it lit.

They played until near midnight. As they tired they began
to slow down, until, finally, they decided that was enough
for the night.

Then and then only did Billy notice it was black out.

"Hey! How come we had all the light we needed?" he asked.

"I wondered when you were going to notice. It's been dark
for two hours now." said Tim.

"Don't let him tease you Billy. We caused the basketball
court to be lit so we could keep on playing. Now we are done
we will cause it to go dark again." said Tim and as he spoke
the basketball court turned dark.

It was so dark, it took a couple seconds for Billy's eyes to
adjust.

"Wow! I wish I could do those things." said Billy.

"Oh! You can Billy. You can. Anybody can. It is only a matter
of realization. As you learn you soon come to see it is the
way your Maker wants everyone to live, but instead we
continue to go man's way, and suffer all the pain and
frustration thereof. The Garden of Eden story is not only a
story of man, Billy, but a story of each man as he choses the
things of man over the things of his Maker. Everyday man
choses to bite the apple, everyday. When he stops eating
the apple, he is back in the Garden. But man does not see
that. He continues to blind himself to his real state, and
therefor suffers." said Tim.

Billy could not believe his ears, his eyes, his new condition.
