What is a "horse opera"?
How do squirrels remember where they buried their nuts?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Is it true that soap is made from animal fats?
Most soap is, indeed, made from animal fats or lard.
(Another important ingredient is lye.) That's the way
the first US settlers made it, and it's largely the same
today. It's also possible to make soap from
plant-derived oils.
What is the origin of the term "soap opera"?
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, "soap operas"
got their name from the fact that they were on during the
day (when mostly housewives were watching) and were
often sponsored by soap or detergent manufacturers eager
to reach a female audience. The "opera" part refers to the
fact that they are dramatic (usually melodramatic). What
exactly IS a soap opera? It's a show with a permanent cast
of characters, continuing storyline, emphasis on talk rather
than action, and lots of sentimental storylines.

A Medical Transcription at Home Career
by Michele Miller
As a medical transcriptionist, I do get asked
several times a month, how I got started in this
business. So many people nowadays want to work
from home, especially mothers with young children.
That?s the primary reason I started my home business
ten years ago, so I could be there for my daughter.
I didn?t want someone else taking care of her after
school instead of me.
It?s really not hard to start a medical transcription
business. The start-up costs are low compared to many
other home-based businesses.
You need a form of education, via home study courses
or by attending your local community college. You do
NOT need a degree in medical transcription to start a
business either. In a short amount of time, usually nine
months or less, you can be working from the comfort
of your own home, just like me.
You will need some equipment, such as a computer,
a printer, a transcriber, and some reference books.
All of which can be purchased second hand if need be.
The latest and greatest equipment is not necessary to
get started.
Now, there are some special skills you will need,
outside of the education, which include:
* Excellent grammar skills
* Good Listening Skills,
* Basic computer skills with a word processing
program
* Research Skills
* Ability to type your speed will increase with
experience
* Must be detail oriented
* Ability to work on your own
* Ability to maintain work deadlines and be a
self-motivator
You will also need some computer programs such as a
medical spellchecker and a word expander utility to cut
down on the amount of actual typing you do. Some
programs, such as Microsoft Word® include this type
of utility. It is the best invention by far, in my opinion.
Basic bookkeeping is necessary, but not difficult. A
good bookkeeper is great to have when it comes to taxes
and advising you about saving money with tax deductions
for your business.
Medical transcription is usually paid by the amount of
work transcribed. Therefore, it is quite normal to charge
your clients by the line. If you charge 13 cents per line
and type 200 lines per hour, (this is a very comfortable
speed to type) your hourly rate would end up being
about $26.00.
Being self-employed does have some pitfalls. One must
consider, as with any home based business, that once you
become self-employed you are responsible for securing
your own health insurance, and putting away money for
retirement.
However, there are many positive things about being
self-employed, as I?m sure you can imagine. For me,
what I love the most, is the flexibility I have with my
time. If I want to work late in the day I can, and if I
want to work early in the morning, that?s up to me.
Running a home-based medical transcription business
is a lot of fun.
Medical transcription is not for everyone, and it is
important before venturing in to any business that
you weigh up the pros and cons of it all and do what
is best for your situation.

COMPUTER TIPS - - -
-------------------------
Keyboard Tricks
Most boards have around 105 keys. From an ESC
key on the top left to an Enter key on the bottom right.
The spacebar is always in the middle of things,
operated by your thumbs.
You can clear all of the stuff on your screen,
safely minimizing it to the bottom of your screen
where your Task bar lives by holding down the
Windows logo key and pressing the letter 'D'.
The Logo key is on the bottom row ... between the
Ctrl and Alt keys to the left of the spacebar and to
its right.
Try it. Hold down the logo key ... press 'D' ... and
release 'D' ... then release the logo key.
If you press the Logo key alone, nothing happens
until you release the key. Press and release it to
activate the Start Menu.
Want to copy some text from a web site and paste
it into a word pad. Open the word processor ... and
open the web page ... highlight the text with the mouse
cursor ... then hold down the Ctrl key and press the
'C' key. You won't see anything happen. Now, move
to the word processor, click once where you want the
next to appear to set the cursor. Then, hold down
the Ctrl key, and press the 'V' key.
The text will appear.
You can highlight text with the keyboard, too.
Now, hold down the Shift key ... and press the right
arrow key. See the text being highlighted?
Select as much as you desire, then do the Ctrl + C
thing to copy, and Ctrl + V to paste. (Ctrl + C is
shorthand for saying "hold down the Ctrl key while
you press the C key.")
Want to quickly view the System Properties of your
computer? That is, see how much RAM you
have, the amount of resources free, and more?
Just press and hold the Windows Logo key while
you press the Pause/Break key. The System
Properties window should appear.

Health Question About Tinnitus
PART 2 of 4
It is important to recognize that this sound comes from the
inside of your ear. There is no sound happening outside. Only
you are hearing it. That being the case: it is evident that you
can't escape or outrun the sound. That it very depressing.
Tinnitus, in its mild form, is tolerable. In its loud, chronic
form is very destructive and stressful. It can lead increased
depression and despair.
Enough about the anatomy and physiology of sounds. You would
like to have ways of getting around the noise factor, right? I
have spent three years learning an amazing amount of information
about tinnitus, dizziness, and hearing issues! And I want to
encourage you to keep on searching for the reason you have this.
Please don't give up. There is a reason for this to be happening
and you need to find it.
You might want to ask yourself why it's ringing. It is deep in
the inner ear and you couldn't get at it from the outside even
with a Q-Tip if you tried. And if it was NOT bothered, it
wouldn't ring, right? So what is making it ring? In order to
have it do anything, something has to come into its "world". But
because of its remoteness, that's virtually impossible. UNLESS
something IN your body is bothering or irritating it. And what
could that be? It has to be something that can get into that
area FROM inside your body. So it could be a virus, bacteria or
a chemicals. I'm sure there are other things as well, but I want
to show you how to think this through. In a "quiet and peaceful"
nerve nothing out of the ordinary is happening. So along now
comes something that is causing the ringing. In other words
something is disturbing the "quiet and peace" of the inner ear
and its nerve. Otherwise you wouldn't be aware of an "intruder".

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Billy got up, went to the fridge and snooped around for
something to eat.
"If you like cereal, it's in the cupboard, Billy." said Tim.
Billy took out a box of cereal from the cupboard, looked
for the bowls and then brought out milk to put on the cereal.
Sitting down he began to eat. He was hungry again.
He ate fast. When done he rose and put his dirty dishes
in the sink as he had seen the Henry boys do.
"There, I'm ready." said Billy.
Tim and Tom got up from their seats. Tim walked over to
Billy and took his hand.
The next thing Billy knew it was very hot.
They had touched down in Africa, at Sonora's. All Billy
could think of was that it was very, very hot. It wasn't a
humid hot. It was a dry hot.
The day was drawing to a close and the sun was setting,
breathtaking.
Billy just stood and looked. He was not only watching
the sunset, he was getting used to the heat. Already
there were patches of moisture showing at his underarms.
"Quite a sight isn't it?" asked Tim from behind him.
"Wow! How did we get here?" asked Billy.
"When I took your hand, I envisioned us standing here,
on this hill. Then I knew we were here. That is all it took,
and here we are. Sonora's hut is that one over there,
behind us." said Tim, pointing.
Billy could hardly believe his ears. He said nothing, but
watched and listened. Billy had never traveled anywhere.
This was a new experience. He liked this and soaked
up everything he could.
"Let's go see my friend." said Tim.
They turned and walked slowly up the hill to Sonora's
place. The family was all home, sitting around the fire,
just having finished supper.
"Hello folks!" said Tim as he came around the hut.
"Hi you guys! said Tom as he came in sight.
"Hi Tim!" said Sonora, getting up and coming to him.
She gave him a hug.
"Hi Tom! It's good to see you guys. What brings you
here?" she asked.
"Sonora, this is Billy. He's a friend of ours and we brought
him along for the visit." said Tim.
"Hello Billy. Welcome to our home. I see you came up
the hill. Tim likes to stop there first, when he visits,
because it is always a beautiful sight. The sunsets are
especially pretty." said Sonora.
"Hello Sonora." said Billy taking her outstretched hand,
"Yeah! I can sure see why he likes to come here. That is
beautiful. It is really nice here, but Wow! is it ever hot."
"We live near the equator Billy. It is hot here all year long.
We are used to it, but at your home in Pinehill, you are
just coming out of winter and into spring. It is much cooler
there, so you would notice the heat. You'll get used to it.
Come, sit, join us for a beverage." said Sonora.
They all sat around the fire.
"Billy, this is my Mom and Dad, Kenyata and Mombudo.
This little trouble maker here is Hemno." Sonora introduced
Billy around.
"Hello Billy." said Kenyata, "Welcome." Mombudo nodded.
"Hello Hemno. How are you. I'm Billy." said Billy, extending
his hand.
They all enjoyed a beverage as they chatted and brought
everyone up to date. The conversation covered everyone
they knew and spent a lot of time on the upcoming wedding
for Romano and Oomano. They were all getting pretty
excited about the affair.
Billy leaned in to Tim and whispered a question. "Is Sonora
one of 'you guys'?" he asked.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"You have to allow a certain amount of time in which you
are doing nothing in order to have things occur to you,
to let your mind think."
---- Mortimer Adler
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
One day in heaven, the Lord decided He would visit
the earth and take a stroll. Walking down the road,
He encountered a man who was crying. The Lord
asked the man, "Why are you crying, my son?"
The man said that he was blind and had never seen
a sunset. The Lord touched the man who could then
see and was happy.
As the Lord walked further, He met another man
crying and asked, "Why are you crying my son?" The
man was born a cripple and was never able to walk.
The Lord touched him and he could walk and he
was happy.
Farther down the road, the Lord met another man who
was crying and asked, "Why are you crying, my son?"
The man said, "Lord I work for the public school system."
... and the Lord sat down and cried with him!
