I Love Cowboy Logic!

ALL I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED ON THE CATTLE RANGE
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.
2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
3. There are 2 theories to arguing with a woman...neither works.
4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
5. Always drink upstream from the herd.
6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and
put it back in your pocket.
8. There are three kinds of men:
- The ones who learn by reading.
- The few who learn by observation.
- The rest of them have to touch the electric fence to see if it's
really on.
9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that
comes from bad judgment.
10. If you're riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every
now and then to make sure it's still there.
I love it! I love it! I don't know whether I am, in my mind,
imposing the slow rounded cowboy drawl into the words
as I read them or if it is only the clear, down to earth logic
that gets me.
However, one of the things I enjoy about cowboy humor,
poetry and logic is it's clear message and simplicity.
Living in the west as I do I get many opportunities to see,
hear and watch performances of Cowboy Poetry. What a
treat.
Yet this style of humor has deep lessons for all of us. It
keeps on telling us that regardless who we are, or who we
think we are, we are still only as human as the next person
and deserving of no more regard or respect than the
lowliest of men.
It's called being part of the human condition. We are all
members of the human family and as human beings, worthy
of respect as any other human being. Oh! you may be placed
in a spot where you can do great things. I hope you are. But
that does not entitle you to greater regard or respect than
the lowliest among us. Think on that for a while.
I had lunch the other day with a friend who is a funeral director.
He told me about a politician, who, coming late for a funeral,
wanted to be seated at the front, where he could be seen.
It came down to the "Well, don't you know who I am?" question.
My friend gently told him that he knew who he was, "and
which person seated up front would you have me remove so
you can sit there?"
So you are elected to office. Does that make you king? Or
does any other position make you king?
Cowboy logic says keep your feet on the ground. Arrogance,
self importance, and similar stupidity will usually get you more
difficulties than favors. It is the old saying, "Those who place
themselves first shall come last, and those who place
themselves last shall come first."

Word 2000
One of the things about the Replace command is that it
tells you how many words it found and replaced when
it's done. You can take advantage of this to see how many
times you use a certain word in your document.
To discover how many certain words are in your
document, summon the Find and Replace command and
enter the word in both the Find What and Replace With
boxes. The same word. Two times. Click Replace All, and
Word dutifully counts the instances of that word in your
document.

But This Works For Me
Dealing With Needless Stress
PART 2 of 3
One of my favorite slogans is "out of confusion comes order." By
itself it sounds confusing, but if you examine the words, it
promises a lot of comfort. This concept tells you that this
confusion is a very normal feeling. Many people experience it.
There is also a promise of success if you persist in searching
for that order. It will come. So why would you possibly stop
searching? Many do.they just give up. Peace and harmony eludes
them. So when you finally reach this peace: this promised
"order", stand firm. Don't allow anyone to "rearrange" your
life. If you like your clothes and feel good in them, it means
they work for you. Ever have anyone tell you to do something
with your kitchen or office? If it works for you, don't allow
the suggestion bother you. The stress of saying that this works
for you is tiny compared to the stress of working in a kitchen
or office that doesn't function any longer. Stick up for
yourself. And don't you just hate it when someone rearranges
your things in the bathroom? How stressful is that? Very!!
Probably upsets your morning till something else distracts you.
Speak up. Say that your things are yours and please leave them
as they are set up. There is order in this but it's probably not
apparent to your organizer friend.
I want to go back to my favorite slogan for a moment. It implies
action. Nothing will happen unless you do something.but what?
You need to find out why you have this confusion. Too many
choices? Not sure if this change would fit your routine? Or you
simply don't like it but think you should do it as it comes from
your friend, etc. If you don't work through this confusion, you
will be stuck with these unsettling results. And that always
creates uncertainty or anxiety until it gets resolved. The key
here is to have a plan for your life and goals that fit your
personality and abilities. You must also have some firm beliefs
and values already in place. You must adhere to those standards.
I maintain that people who are really outspoken and want you to
change, are really those who haven't yet decided who they are
and what values they cherish. So obviously they are testing to
see who will go along with them. But again, you are not
"them".and you must feel you can trust your own inner strength.

to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

one says you cannot associate with them. No one says
you must let them go. You will find, however, much that is
new, exciting, fulfilling, with your new life. Your friends can
join you if they wish. They need only make the same
decision you did. Most will not. Maybe none will. Yet your
new life is no different than when you moved from one foster
parent home to another. That involved new friends, new
things you were doing and a slightly different way of viewing
things. This is the same, Billy." reassured Sam.
Billy sat bolt upright. He opened his eyes and then rubbed
them. This was a new thing. He didn't know what to make
of it. He looked Sam right in the eye.
"Yes, Billy, it was I who showed you the dream. These are
the kind of things that happen when you live by higher law.
It is for this reason you must be strong in your choices of
how you will live. Nonetheless you saw that all was
accomplished by your choice. You were not forced or
influenced by anyone to make the choice you
made." said Sam.
"I don't know if I like those choices, Mr. Henry!" said Billy.
"That's right, Billy. Taking charge of your own life first off
makes you aware of the fact you will leave the world
most men prefer. Yet you and you alone are responsible
for your happiness, strength and accomplishments.
Keeping yourself among the sheep usually makes you
only a sheep. The choice, Billy, is whether you want to be
a shepherd or a sheep. Even if you don't want to live by
higher law but wish to take charge of your life, you will
face the same challenge. That is just the way of life Billy.
I give you these thoughts that you might make choices. I
am not saying you must make this choice or that choice.
Should you decide to take charge of your own life, this is
one phase through which you will pass. There are
considerable rewards on the other side, much more than
if you decide to remain a sheep, but first you must walk
through this realization and change the way you look at
and deal with others." responded Sam.
"This is hard Mr. Henry." said Billy.
"Only so long as you labor over the decision Billy. It is
because you are young and have never been shown
these things that I show you now. Most men do not want
to be successful. Oh! Yes! They mouth the words. They
will get up on a soapbox and argue that they do. But very
few make this choice, and they continue their lives in a
futile effort to be successful without ever coming to terms
with the fact they must make this choice to take charge of
and be exclusively responsible for their lives. In doing so
they realize they separate themselves from the world in
which they presently live, and most will not make that choice.
So they talk big but are really just paper tigers. You must
decide, at some point in your life, to accept responsibility for
who and what you are, or you will remain a sheep going
whichever way any shepherd wants to take you. The first
few days, maybe weeks, are not easy, Billy, but then all
becomes well and you will find it well worth making the
decision." said Sam.
"Was it this hard for you Mr. Henry?" asked Billy.
"Much harder, Billy. I read of this knowledge for years. I
spoke of it within my family for years. I labored over the
decision for years. Finally, my daughter, Eloise, went away
on a very dangerous journey. Upon her return she had
made the decision to live by higher law, and it showed. She
showed the rest of us and we simply made our decisions,
each of us, and away we went. But in by case, Billy that
happened over a twenty year period. I would have been
much better off making my decision firmly, many years
earlier than I did." answered Sam.
"What about Tim and Tom? Did they make their decision
early? Was it hard for them to make such a
decision?" asked Billy.
"In truth you will have to ask them. However, I suspect that
because we had been talking about this over the supper
table for years, all their lives, when their sister appeared
with the knowledge they just naturally absorbed it and
made their own choices. They, and you, have the fortunate
advantage of looking around and seeing the world man
has created. They did and decided they wanted to do
something more and different with their lives. Then they
made their choice. You are in a similar position, Billy. Why
don't you go and talk with them about it? They will tell
you." said Sam.
"I will Mr. Henry." said Billy, now looking at both Tim and Tom.
"We'll talk later tonight Billy. I am glad you want to look at
this. It is time you made the decision about what you want
to do with your life. If we can help, we'd be
happy to." said Tim.

HA! HA! HA!
A priest, a rabbi and a Pentecostal preacher all served
as chaplains to the students of Northern Michigan University
in Marquette. They would get together two or three times
a week for coffee and to talk "shop". One day someone
made the comment that preaching to people isn't really
that hard. A real challenge would be to preach to a bear.
Well, one thing led to another and before it was over they
decided to do a seven-day experiment. They would all
go out into the woods, find a bear and preach to it.
It's now 7 days later and they're all together to discuss the
experience.
Father O'Flannery, who has his arm in a sling, is on crutches,
and has various bandages goes first. "Wellll," he says in
a fine Irish brogue, "Ey wint oot into th' wooods to fynd me
a bearr. Oond when Ey fund him Ey began to rread to him
from the Baltimorre Chatecism. Welll, thet bearr wanted
naught to do wi' me und begun to slap me aboot. So I quick
grrabbed me holy water and, THE SAINTS BE PRAISED,
he becam as gintle as a lamb. The bishop is cooming oot
next wik to give him fierst communion und confierrmation."
Reverend Billy Bob speaks next. He's in a wheel chair,
with an arm and both legs in casts and an I.V. drip. In his
best fire and brimstone oratory he proclaims, "WELL brothers
....you KNOW that we don't sprinkle........WE DUNK! I went
out and I FOUND me a bear. And then I began to read to
him from God's HOOOOLY WORD! But that bear wanted
nothing to do with me. I SAY NO! He wanted NOTHING
to do with me. So I took HOOOLD of him and we began
to rassle. We rassled down one hill, UP another and DOWN
another untill we come to a crick. So'se I quick DUNK
him and BAPTIZE his hairy soul. An' jus like you you sez,
he wuz gentle as a lamb. We spent the rest of the week
in fellowship, feasting on God's HOOOOLY word."
They both look down at the rabbi who's laying in a hospital
bed. He's in a body cast & traction with IV's and monitors
running in and out of him. The rabbi looks up and says
"Oy! You don't know what tough is until you try to circumcise
one of those creatures."
