Yep, we've all got microscopic bugs living in our eyelash

Is it true that US scientists are trying to develop

It is, indeed. The tiny robotic critters could be used by the

Study Findings Show Online Media Lifts Sales
By Tobi Elkin, Executive Editor, Media Post
Friday, March 26, 2004

The findings of a study by a consortium of consumer
packaged goods companies show that online advertising
spurred lifts in sales ranging from 7 percent to 12.5 percent,
demonstrating the extent to which an increase in the level
of online media impacts offline sales.

The results of the Advertising Accountability Study were
released on Thursday at MSN's fifth annual Customer
Summit. Consortium participants are Nestle SA, Kraft
Foods, Procter & Gamble, and Neutrogena, each of
which submitted campaigns for the project. While testing
for the latter two remains ongoing, the results for Nestle's
Coffeemate and Kraft's Jell-O showed that online
advertising generated noticeable increases in sales.

While the interactive medium has worked hard to establish
that the addition of online media to the overall media mix
lifts key brand metrics, the new findings mark the first time
that online media has been evaluated against the context
of sales. The link is a critical one, as publishers and
agencies struggle to make the case that marketers
should shift more media dollars to online programs.

The findings of the study, sponsored by Microsoft Corp.'s
MSN--which shared the costs of the research with the
participating marketers--recommend dramatically
increasing online spending within the consumer
packaged goods category where spending is currently
less than 1 percent, according to Knowledge
Networks/SRI. The study culled data from a variety of
sources used on a regular basis by consumer packaged
goods companies including IRI, ACNielsen, and
scanner data.

Understanding Medical Terminology
A Little Bit More
PART 1 of 7

Some time ago, I wrote a short article on terminology. I often
find myself helping people understand their medical
"experiences": helping them understand or translate their
doctor's procedures. First I want to tell you why it's important
for you to know these terms or at least know where to find the
information. Then I'll give you a few "prefixes" and "suffixes"
and "root" words. These are the beginnings and endings and will
help you get an understanding of the meaning of the entire word.
And then I want to have a bit of fun with the whole process.

Understanding this medical terminology is particularly important
when you are dealing with consent forms for any kind of invasive
procedure. You MUST know what is going to happen to you. You are
agreeing to something that is going to happen to YOUR body.
Something or someone is invading the very interior of it. How
can you possibly say "yes" to a procedure if you don't know what
the words mean? Luckily we now have online dictionaries and
encyclopedias. But often you are asked to sign for a procedure
in a doctor's office to save time and another appointment.
That's fair. Please understand that you have the right to take
this form with you and have it explained in terms you can
understand it. If you don't understand the first time, ask for
another explanation.

You also have the right to ask questions about possible side
effects and complications. But one of the problems I come across
is the doctor/patient relationship. Many people are afraid to
ask a question for fear of offending their doctor: for not
"trusting them". Then they discover they have consented to
something they didn't even know was wrong with them. Your doctor
would probably assume you know more than you actually do, and if
it's your condition, it's always more personal. Therefore it's
even more important to make sure you understand. You are being
asked to agree that if you have one or more of possible
complications, that you can "live with them". In other words,
you have made arrangements to deal with the negative outcomes if
they occur. I have been corresponding with someone who is
considering an angiogram. (It's a procedure where with x-rays
and special dyes and tools, a specialist can take pictures of
the blood circulating through your heart muscles.) One possible
complication is cardiac arrest (your heart stopping). He was
told it's very safe nowadays, but he still needs to think it
through. And by thinking it through, he will get his affairs in
order just in case he has a cardiac arrest during the procedure.
(You should do that anyway when undergoing any type of surgical
procedure. Nothing is 100% safe.) You need to find the courage
to ask, even though you would rather not...
Let's move to the terminology and it's parts.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

By now the little girls mother had appeared. She saw
what was happening to her child and demanded the
crowd put her down. She had no realization of all that
had transpired. She had been involved in other things
and had not even heard her daughter scream.

Romano watched. The crowd did not want to put the little
girl down, but the mother insisted. The little girl, now, was
becoming afraid of the activities of the crowd. Romano
gently broadcast love and the idea of putting the girl
down, unto the crowd.

Before long the message got through and the girl was
returned to her mother.

Romano, still invisible, moved to the front of the housing
complex and to the street, where he became visible and
where he continued his walk.

He kicked a couple more stones as he walked, and then
he heard a noise. He turned and looked.

"THERE HE IS!" yelled the crowd.

Romano smiled. Just as he figured. If he had been seen
they would be after him. He had hoped to avoid this, by
coming out to the front of the buildings and continuing
his walk, but he had not gotten far enough away before
he made himself visible.

Someone from the crowd around the little girl had come
out front, and spotted him. The chase was on.

Romano had been a block away when that happened.
He figured he had lots of time before the crowd caught
up with him, especially if he walked faster.

But the crowd was a ferocious "pack" and it would have
it's way. They began running as a group. For a while one
observing might have thought it was an exercise run for
some group. It was not. It was the hungry, miracle seeking,
greedy group who were chasing Romano to sate their
own wishes.

However, as a pack, it was unthinking. It moved as a unit
toward Romano, but it had no idea what it would do when
it caught up to him. When pack mentality takes over then
things can get ugly. Everyone in the pack becomes braver,
and unthinking. The pack becomes dangerous.

Romano, while walking swiftly, turned to look. The crowd
was approaching fast. He had to do something. He could,
of course, vanish again. He could transport himself over to
Oomano's. He could cause himself to rise above the crowd,
He could put a shield around himself. There were many
things he could do, but he didn't want to do anything to
cause the crowd to become convinced, once more, that
he had special powers with which to do favors for them.
They sought miracles. Although he could give to them he
knew that doing so would be futile.

He decided to run into an alley. There, hiding behind a
vehicle he caused himself to become invisible. He knew
he would have to stay this way for a while.

The crowd turned the corner just as he had finished
eliminating all sign of where he was. His footprints had
been clearly visible to anyone who took time to observe.

But the crowd was not observant. It came quickly
around the corner and into the alley. Someone within
it had stumbled and fell. Many others from behind,
stepped on that person, then fell themselves. In an
instant there were ten or twelve people in various
horizontal positions on the ground, on people, and
otherwise no longer part of the pack.

That sobered them up considerably. The ones who
fell first had broken bones, from being trampled.

The pack was thinned out considerably, now, and not
any longer in the frenzy it once was. The lead parts
moved right past Romano, not seeing him, and they
kept on going.

When the crowd had passed, Romano stepped from
behind the vehicle where he had been hiding.
He remained invisible. Moving toward the remnant
that had fallen, and who were still moaning from
assorted injuries, he shook his head.

He broadcast love toward them all, and specifically
he saw them all whole. The moaning turned to anger,
from those, who, no longer feeling pain, began to kick
and push others who were on top of them or who had
walked on them.

The scene reminded Romano not of civilized human
beings, but, instead, a pack of animals picking on the
weakest among them. It reminded him that mankind has
not progressed very far from the animal world. He
knew that if famine should strike the land then people
would become cannibalistic. They would group and
then rob and steal. They would, the more so, have
concern only for their own selfish ends.

HA! HA! HA!

Arriving back at the dorm late one evening, my roommate
explained that she had gotten lost in the school library. No
one was surprised, since the library is large and has a
confusing layout.

When I asked her how long it took her to find an exit, she
admitted she hadn't actually found the exit herself. She'd
used an emergency phone to call for help.

Puzzled, I asked, "How did your rescuers find you if you
didn't know where you were?"

"Easy," she said. "I started reading titles of books around
me, and they located my position from the card catalogue.
