Is dry ice really ice?
Who were the minutemen?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Where did the iceman get his ice?
The way people have done it for generations: by cutting
a hole in a lake or pond and cutting out large blocks to store
in an ice house.
Is it true that there once was an international ice trade?
Sure. Ice was once hauled on boats all over the globe. It
was often "harvested" in cold places like Alaska and
New England and shipped to warmer places, like
South America and the West Indies.

DON'T MAKE EXCUSES:
MAKE THINGS HAPPEN!
by Rhoberta Shaler, PhD
You know that your excuses are seldom truthful, often handy
and rarely productive. So, why make them?
It's no surprise that 'Honesty is the best policy!' is so
often quoted. It's the truth. So, why do we not seem to
believe that it applies to the conversations we have with
ourselves?
Would you feel as comfortable offering your excuses to your
employer as you are offering them to yourself? Probably not.
Why? Because your employer is unlikely to buy them and is very
likely to see through them. We don't want our excuses exposed
so we're careful where we proffer them. Somehow, they are
quite acceptable to give to ourselves. We think they are
safety hidden.
Now, does this make sense? Sure. We like to feel we can get
away with things, don't we? Let ourselves off the hook.
Relieve the pressure. Have some downtime. So, what's wrong
with this picture?
PROMISE TO STRETCH NOT OVER-EXTEND
Folks make 'pie-in-the-sky' goals. In a burst of enthusiasm,
commitment to unrealistic goals seems possible. Take off the
rose-colored glasses.
Make goals that cause you to stretch but not goals that cause
you to over-extend. There is a huge difference between these
two. Stretch feels good, you know that you can do it and you
know it is good for you. Over-extension causes stress, fear
and exhaustion.
Stretch increases your capacity slowly. You can sustain your
gains. Over-extension can cause frustration, resentment
and...excuses.
PROMISE WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DELIVER
Ever made a promise that you knew as you spoke you were
going to have a problem delivering? Sure you have. Why
did you do it? There are good reasons for doing so: You
want to help someone in need. You want to work towards
a promotion. You want someone to like you more, approve
of you, accept you. Good reasons.
What happens when you cannot or do not deliver? All those
good reasons are not only negated but you may have lost the
confidence of the folks you wished to serve, please or help.
Not very wise.
What about the promises you make to yourself? You count. In
fact, you count the most. Why? Because you have to live with
you every second. Personally, I believe that the greatest
contributor to lack of self-confidence lies in our failure to
keep our promises to ourselves.
Goal achievement is rooted in keeping your promises to
yourself. Don't let yourself down. You'll soon find that you
are able to keep your careful promises to others easily.
PROMISE NOT TO CUDDLE UP WITH YOUR APOLOGIES
It's also easy to be on friendly terms with our excuses. We
condition ourselves to play it safe. We limit our adventures,
discoveries, interests and risks. When we were children, this
was usually not an issue. We simply 'went for it'.
No, I'm not suggesting throwing caution to the wind. Simply
look at what holds you back. Is it that you are unwilling to
experience even the slightest bit of discomfort or pain? Now,
there's a conundrum. Is it possible to experience change
without a little discomfort? That only happens when you
change from dress shoes to bedroom slippers, or, some kind
person provides you with clean Huggies!
Some folks think that the safe way is to do nothing. Great!
Do you want the results that choosing to do nothing produces?
If so, you are choosing wisely. If not, choose again. Even a
decision to not take action is still taking an action. Be
sure it makes sense for you.
Do you think that cuddling up with your apologies protects
your ego? Nothing ventured, nothing risked = safety? Not so.
It's never too late to try something new. Think you're too
old? Think of Grandma Moses. Think folks will laugh? Who
cares? Think of the value of laughter to them and proceed.
<g> Think you would fall on your face? So what? It's good
exercise to pick yourself up and get going again.
Resist the urge to make excuses that keep you from your
dreams. Don't make excuses. Make things happen!

COMPUTER TIPS - - -
-------------------------
Image File
An image file is just another type of file found on your
computer's hard drive. Image files will have a three letter
"file extension" that tells your operating system (Windows)
what program to use to open that file. The most common
image files have either a ".JPG" or ".GIF" file extension. Files
with ".JPG" extensions are usually photographs, but not always.
Files with ".GIF" extensions are usually graphics with fewer
colors.
Photographs taken with a digital camera are almost always
in. JPG format. They have millions of colors.

Understanding Medical Terminology
A Little Bit More
PART 3 of 7
Let's work through the word "tachycardia". This is where you
have a fast or rapid heart rate, measured when you "take your
pulse" or count the heartbeats by touching the outside of a
blood vessel at your wrist.
Now, in order to figure out the meaning, you go to the BACK of
the word and find the end (suffix) meaning which could be "ia",
meaning "condition of". Then go to the FRONT and get the
prefix..."tachy", meaning fast. The root word is card...meaning
heart. So this would "literally" be a condition of a fast heart,
but as a heart itself isn't fast, but rather the rate is, it's a
condition of a fast heart rate.
If this interests you, get a good dictionary and play with this.
Take some words and look at prefixes, suffixes, and the root
words, then check the meaning. You can create your own words. A
good dictionary will give you the meaning of the prefixes or
suffixes. Medline has good information.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/dictionaries.html.
Check out our autoresponder on Understanding Medical
Terminology. mailto:medterms@rr-email.com
Here is a link to get one page of common terms with their
explanations. I have included some of these terms so you can see
what you are faced with in a dictionary. It doesn't look very
organized, but it is. And the explanations are vital. Many times
you have the same word: different meanings. It's very confusing
until you really try to understand the entire process.
Please don't get too caught up in the absolute meaning here. It
takes professionals weeks to learn this. This is simply an
overview for interest.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
Abetta was watching from the kitchen with love in her
heart. She remembered those days, when two lovers
wanted to be together but there were too many people
around. They were beautiful days in her life, and she
could see the same feelings being shared by these two
lovers. She smiled unto herself. She loved this. She
and Miguele were very proud of their two daughters.
And she was immensely pleased at the prospect of
Oomano and Romano getting married. She had
nothing but blessings for them.
But for the two wrestling on the couch the feelings
were much more intense. They could hardly keep
their hands off one another. They hugged and kissed
until, finally, the heat became too much to handle.
Oomano, red, flustered, wanting more than was right
at that moment, broke off and stood up, straightening
her clothes. "Romano, we must talk!" she said
breathlessly.
"I don't want to talk. I want to act." he said. Romano's
upbringing as a youth in the gangs of this city, was not
conducive to being polite, courteous, proper according
to the beliefs of the household. In former days he would
simply take what he wanted, without much care
where he was.
Thank goodness for higher law and his knowledge
thereof. He knew Oomano wanted him as much as he
wanted her. He knew, too, that the pair of them could
get away any time they wanted to complete their lustful
desires. Yet they had both chosen to decline, maybe
unwillingly at times, until the honeymoon. That way they
could at least function with clear consciences.
"Oh! Okay! Let's talk." he finally gave in to common sense.
The kids blood was running hot. The temptations were so
heavy some days they had to be apart, because they were
not strong enough to withhold. Wisdom, alone, prevailed.
"Our wedding is next month. We only have a little while to
wait. So behave yourself." and she stuck her tongue out
at him.
That did it. The chase was on again.
Abetta laughed. How many years had it been since she
did that to Miguele? They had played these little games
when they were younger. They thrilled her to the core. My
how her emotions had wanted Miguele. Even now she
could feel the intense pull, the hot blood running, just
from remembering back.
The kids chase didn't last too long. He caught her before
she could get to the end of the couch. And again he held
her, only this time he was on top of her. Every once in a
while they would grind their bodies together. But the
wriggling done by Oomano pretty much kept it a wrestling
match. They laughed and squirmed.
Finally they tired, and just lay there. Their loins were on
fire, but they could do nothing.
"Here's a hot cup of coffee for each of you, to cool you
down." laughed Abetta, as she placed two cups of coffee
on the dining room table.
The noise from someone else in the room brought them
out of their thoughts. They had been lost in an emotional
reverie that had transported them to another world. The
emotions of love were so hard when you are this young.
The kids got up off the couch and came to the table. Both
of them had red faces and both of them showed the
detached, pointless attitudes of the one whose goals
had be foiled. It took them a while to get their feet back
on the ground, their heads in the right place.
Abetta knew what was going on. She had been there
and knew exactly what it was like to come down from
such intense, yet unrealized emotions.
"Have you two decided what you will wear on your
wedding day?" she asked, knowing that giving them a
point on which to focus would soon have them back to
normal.
"I don't know, Mama. I would like a fine white wedding
dress, with a flowing train, but it will get so dirty dragging
on the ground." said Oomano.
"You are planning on having the wedding here, under
the roof in the yard?" asked Abetta.
"Yes, Mama. That's what I mean. Oh, that doesn't matter.
I will manifest the dress, and when we are done with it I
will send it back from whence it came. What are you
going to wear Romano?" she asked.
"Oh, I thought I would just wear my sweaty old work clothes.
It'll likely be a hot sweaty day anyway. Ouch!" he laughed
as he rubbed his arm where Oomano had slugged him even
before he could finish talking.

"Being organized has it's good points and bad...it's good
for someone to be organized...as long as that someone
ain't you."
---- Doug Firebaugh
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
Over the years, my husband and I have usually managed
to decode the cute but confusing gender signs sometimes
put on restaurants' restroom doors (Buoys and Gulls,
Laddies and Lassies, etc.), but every so often we get
stumped.
Recently my husband Dave wandered off in search of
the men's room and found himself confronted by two
marked doors. One was labeled "Bronco," and the
other was designated "Cactus." Completely
baffled, he stopped a restaurant employee passing by.
"Excuse me; I need to use the restroom," Dave said.
Gesturing toward the doors, he asked, "Which one
should I use?"
"Actually, we would prefer you to go there," the employee
said, pointing to a door down the hall marked "Men."
"Bronco and Cactus are private dining rooms."
