What Greek demigod gave us the word "panic"?
What mythological character inspired the word "tantalize"?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
When was Arbor Day first observed?
Arbor Day, a holiday for planting trees, was celebrated for the
first time in Nebraska on April 10, 1872. The holiday is now
usually celebrated on the last Friday in April.
What mythological prophetess could see the future, but was
never believed?
Cassandra, a daughter of King Priam of Troy, was endowed
with the gift of prophecy but fated never to be believed. Greek
legend says that she offended the god Apollo, who was initially
attracted to her, and was punished with this "gift." Cassandra
predicted the fall of Troy to the invading Greeks and her own
murder at the hands of an angry wife. We now use the word
"Cassandra" to refer to one that utters unheeded prophecies,
especially prophecies of doom.

More broadband news. I guess we will soon be able to get
broadband through our power lines and no longer need
the phone lines for high speed internet.
Broadband Via Electric Lines Could Challenge DSL, Cable
by Gavin O'Malley, Friday, Feb 25, 2005 7:06 AM EST
PROVIDING BROADBAND SERVICE THROUGH ELECTRIC
power lines is a potentially competitive alternative to high-speed
Internet connections via cable and DSL, but infrastructure and
regulatory issues loom, said participants in a conference call
yesterday held by the New Millennium Research Council, a
Washington, D.C.-based lobby and policy group. If
broadband-over-power-line service were offered for $30 per
month, estimated Barry Goodstadt, vice president and senior
consultant for Harris Interactive, it would reach 13 million
households and present a $4.5 million revenue opportunity
over the next three to five years.
But Robert Olsen, professor of electrical engineering at
Washington State University, cautioned that
broadband-over-power lines potentially interferes with certain
radio signals--a problem that engineers will have to fix before
the nation sees extensive power line implementation.
"The FCC requires that broadband-over-power line operators
not provide harmful interference to users, but a standard has
not yet been established for harmful interference," Olsen warned.
Harris Interactive's Goodstadt replied that interference
concerns would be minimized in newer power grids, which
tend to bury lines underground rather than locate them
overhead.
Allen Hepner, executive director of the New Millennium
Research Council, added that it's unclear how the government
would regulate broadband-over-power service.
Joseph Fergus, president and chief executive of
Communications Technologies Inc.--currently deploying the
technology in Manassas, Va.--said he had a waiting list of
1,200 customers. Because of the technology's relatively
cheap cost of $28.95 per month, rival broadband providers
in and around Manassas were forced to reduce their prices,
Fergus claimed. He declined to go into specifics.

Bones: Dont Take Your Support
System For Granted
PART 4 of 9
Systemically, bones also provide the housing for the
formation of blood cells in the bone marrow. Bones help
to stabilize your body fluids. And they participate in
metabolizing nutrients, thus feeding the body. Another
major assignment they have is the storage of minerals
including calcium and phosphorous. (Somehow a depletion
in phosphorous isnt as apparent.) We really never pay
any attention to how our body gets the nourishment to
do all its jobs. But this comes through blood
circulating throughout the body automatically. Both
calcium and phosphorous are deposited in the bone when
they are plentiful and removed when needed elsewhere in
the body. (Supply and demand.) It is crucial to
understand this concept. I truly believe it is the
basis for understanding osteoporosis. Essentially your
body shares everything. In a healthy body, adequate
amounts of calcium and phosphorus are in good supply.
Sharing is not a problem. However when your body is
provided with inadequate amounts of calcium (through
poor nutrition), and other areas need it as well to
function, sharing could now become a major problem.
Doesnt it make sense that something will be depleted?
And depletion will weaken this bone structure and
protective mechanism. It will start to cave in. Bones
need to be stressed. Any bones that are not
"stressed/used" will waste away (atrophy).
When things go wrong. How can bones be damaged?
Basically something has to interrupt the actions of the
bone (renewal) formation and constant functions. It may
be a tumour (lesion) or a bruise such as stubbing your
toe. It could be a fracture. That is the correct term
for breaking the actual hard surface: all the way or
partially. It could be a twist as in a sprain or
shoulder displacement. It could be a splinter as in a
greenstick fracture in a child. Young children's bones
are not yet strong and firm. They can get greenstick
fractures easily by falling off a bike. (The name for
this concept comes from the analogy of trying to break
a new tree branch. It splits instead of breaking
because it hasnt had time to grow in strength.) It's a
very bad idea to pick a child up by their arm. This can
easily dislocate their shoulder and cause the muscles
and ligaments to be loose later on in life. It can also
cause greenstick fractures of the upper arm. At the
other end of the aging scale, many older people with
brittle bones can have a very easy and quick break
(lack of calcium). Often they will use their hands to
protect themselves as they loose their balance and
fall, and end up with a Colles fracture (a certain type
of wrist fracture). In my Operating Room days, I helped
patch up many a grandmother who wanted to get something
off an upper shelf by standing on a chair, and falling.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

The conversation went back and forth until
everyone was pretty much caught up on the news.
Just then the boys came home.
"Hi Sis, Maz. How are you guys?" Tom came over
to give Eloise a hug.
"We're just fine. Hi Billy. How are things
going?"
"Things are great Miss Eloise." Billy wasn't
sure what to call her.
"Billy, call me Eloise or Missy." She laughed.
"Where's Tim? Oh, I bet I know. With Sharon?"
"You got it. We hardly ever see him any more.
He's in love and you can't even talk to him." Tom
was teasing, rolling his eyes and shrugging his
shoulders in an expression of futility. That
brought on laughter too. They were all aware of
Tim's focus on Sharon.
"So, Mom, I thought I might pawn the kids off
on Maz and Dad so you and I could go do some
shopping. I haven't done that for quite a while
and I thought it might be interesting. What do you
say?"
"That sounds like fun. We don't need anything
but just shopping is fun. Sure. Let's do it."
"Well hold on here, just a minute!" Sam was
playing the imposed upon husband.
"Sam, quite your griping. You know you love
being around the grandchildren."
"I know. I'll tell you what. Maz, I and the
kids will go up to the cabin. The weather is
terrific and the kids will love it. In fact why
don't we stay up there for a couple weeks. The
boys can come up if they want and even Tim and
Sharon can come. That would be great."
"That sounds fine, Sam. You go on ahead and
Eloise and I will meet you when we are done. You
realize we might do this often?"
"I know, honey. It's been a long time. You
might have fun. Go ahead, I'll look after the
rest."
With that the two ladies were on their way
downtown Pinehill to do some shopping. Alewka
liked to drive so as not to draw attention to
herself.
They first of all drove up and down main
street. Since the explosion that nearly demolished
all the downtown area there had been considerable
reconstruction. Things were different since Eloise
was last here.
"Mom! Are all these buildings new?"
"Yes, dear. They don't look like it do they.
The businesses got together and decided they
wanted to rebuild but they also wanted to have the
town look like it had before the explosion. All
the buildings on that side of the street are new,
and they all look like they did before. There are
some changes, here and there. Inside, though they
have all the modern showcases, racks, lights,
doors, flooring and the works."
"I think I'm going to enjoy this." Eloise was
glad she had come.
They parked the car and began walking. They
went into store after store, looking at the goods
on sale, clothing mostly.
"Hello, Eloise. How are you?" The voice came
from behind Eloise.
She turned to see Evelyn Sparks standing
behind her. "Hello Mrs. Sparks. How are you?"
"I'm fine. It's good to see you. Up here for a
visit are you?"
"Yes. It's been a while, so Maz and I thought
we might come up for a couple weeks."
"That's terrific. How are you Alewka?"
"I'm fine Evelyn, thank you. Say, we will be
staying at the lake while the kids are up. Would
you and Darryl like to come out?"
"I don't know. I'll ask Darryl and get back to
you. Thank you for the invite. Don't spend all
your money in one place you two." With that Evelyn
left to continue her errands.
No sooner had Evelyn left but the two ladies
heard "ELOISE!". Turning around again Eloise saw
one of the school chums she used to associate with
before leaving on her much talked about journey.
"Hi Jill. How are you?"
"Eloise, I haven't seen you for ages, simply
ages. My how you have changed. Where do you live
now? You have a tan that would be the envy of all
of us. Is this your Mother? Hello Mrs. Henry.
Come, Eloise, let's have a coffee and tell me all
about yourself."
Eloise looked at her Mother. They were both
thinking this is one of those "spinny" girls who
just never stops talking. Yet they were in a
situation where they were caught. Eloise shrugged
her shoulders to her Mother and off she went with
Jill. "Mom, come join us when you're done,
please."

HA! HA! HA!
There were three little pigs that went to a restaurant for
dinner. The waiter came to the table and asked if they
would like something to drink.
The first piggy said, "I would like a Dr. Pepper."
The second piggy said, "I would like a glass of tea."
The third piggy said, "I would like a glass of water."
When the waiter brought the drinks, he asked if they
were ready to order.
The first piggy said he would like a Hamburger."
The second piggy said, "I would like a Steak."
The third piggy said, "I would like a glass of
water."
When the piggies were finished eating, the waiter
asked if they would like some dessert.
The first piggy said, "I would like a hot fudge sundae."
The second piggy said, "I would like a banana split."
The third piggy said, "I would like a glass of water."
When the piggies were finished with dessert, the
waiter brought their check. Before he left the table, he
asked the third little piggy why he only ordered water.
The third piggy said, "Well, someone has to go 'Wee
wee wee all the way home."
