What does it mean to be "between Scylla and Charybdis"?
If you're "between Scylla and Charybdis," you're in a very
bad place indeed. In Greek mythology, Scylla and Charybdis
were two monsters who threatened seamen. The only way to
avoid one was to fall prey to the other. Scylla and Charybdis
were actually personifications of a real navigational hazard.
Seamen sailing in the Straits of Messina (between Italy and
Sicily) had to avoid two dangers: a huge rock in a narrow
channel and a dangerous whirlpool. Ships steering too far
away from the hazardous rock would be sucked into the
whirlpool. Today we use the expression "between Scylla and
Charybdis" to refer to a painful decision where we must
choose the lesser of two evils.
What US president served as an executioner?
Grover Cleveland, the 24th president of the US, worked briefly
as an executioner before becoming president. He hung at
least two convicted criminals. Guess we know where he stood
on the death penalty issue.

Keep Your On Head Straight!
When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at its intended
victim during a holdup in Long Beach, California, would
be robber James Elliot did something that can only
inspire wonder: He peered down the barrel and tried
the trigger again. This time it worked.

The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat
cutting machine and, after a little hopping around,
submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company,
suspecting negligence, sent out one of its men to have
a look for himself. He tried the machine out and lost a
finger. The chef's claim was approved.

A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space
for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his
vehicle to find a woman had taken the space.
Understandably, he shot her.
Many there are who choke, freeze up, or panic when
things don't go right. It is the cause of many drownings,
aircraft accidents and car accidents.
When you get in a tight spot the thing to do is think clearly,
not panic. Panic is only known for causing death and
destruction. It is fear taken to the level of stupidity and will
never produce anything but bad results.
Yet how does one develop clear thinking in the midst of
a crisis. One doesn't want many experiences to come
along for practice!
Here is a step in the right direction. You can do two very
practical things that will end up giving you clear thinking
in a crisis. First, understand, deep in the core of your being
that clear thinking will save any tight situation. With clear
thinking you will always come out the best from a
dangerous spot.
Second, for a month, at least, when you go to bed at night
practice dreaming about you thinking clearly in all
situations. See yourself as being calm, as picking the
best solution to a circumstance, as being the one who
comes out a winner. Get yourself used to that idea, KNOW
you are a clear thinker and will always come out of a
situation the right way. Practice that often and you will
soon see it works for you in every day life as well.
Know you are the master of fear and fear will no longer
be your master. That is the difference between clear
thinking and fear. Once you follow this exercise you
will soon realize that you ...

Bones: Don’t Take Your Support

How can damaged bones be repaired? Simplistically, you
would restore whatever is missing. Without crucial
nutrient and blood supply, the cells start to die. So
it is imperative that all the ingredients for healing
are restored as quickly as possible. It may appear to
you that bones don’t have any place for blood cells to
provide food, but through special mechanisms, blood is
circulated. And when it stops or is interrupted, the
food intake stops as well. Then decay or damage sets
in. So it is crucial for nourishment and waste
management to continue to be present and function.
Healing takes time: months in most cases. (The actual
bone growth over the damaged area is called a callus
and there are expected, known timeframes for healing.)
The medical community makes every effort to deal
quickly with the obvious problem. One problem that may
arise, if something isn’t done fairly quickly, is the
presence of clots. These may be caused by the very
actions of the bone marrow in the shaft of the bone. It
houses your blood supply and other elements including
fatty tissue. If the bone is broken, any of these
elements might now be released into the mainstream of
the body. This is one way how clots may be formed.
Most treatment deals with realigning the damaged area
to its normal (anatomical) position. The area needs to
be immobilized. This can be done in a number of ways.
You can use materials such as tape, cast, bone plates,
screws, splints, taping, and slings. Often if the
damage is slight or uncomplicated, the repairs can be
done in an emergency room or doctor’s office. If they
are complicated, hospital facility intervention would
be required.
An “interesting” thing will happen when a bone is out
of alignment. It puts a lot of unnecessary strain on
the surrounding areas. These may cause additional
damage. So to reduce this strain and prevent further
damage, re-alignment is crucial. Also the ends of the
bones would not heal properly if they are not in
alignment. The tissues of the bone need to be connected
effectively. It has to be bone to bone or muscle to
muscle. You can imagine what would happen if a piece of
muscle gets caught between two jagged edges of bone. It
would die. Also the bone wouldn’t heal properly and
quickly.

was wondering if there were some courses you could
take that would ease that a little for you?"
"I don't know. I never thought about it. I'm
nervous being around you. You have such a big
reputation around this town, I feel like I'm
having lunch with a celebrity."
"Come on Jill. I'm the same old me I always
was. Don't believe half of what you read in the
papers or see on television."
With that Eloise took another look at Jill's
thoughts. She saw a woman who has the same
feelings as any other person. She wanted things
just like everyone else. She was craving for love
and affection, acceptance. Yet deep inside she
felt she was not worthy. It was the result of
training over many years.
Eloise knew Jill would never overcome this.
She knew Jill would be destined to a life where
she always felt this insecurity and it would rule
her life as it was ruling her thoughts and actions
now. Eloise also knew it was a catch 22 situation.
Jill would never have the courage to take courses
in an effort to get the matter resolved. She did
not even have sufficient conviction to go that
far. So she could not get what she needed to solve
the problem because the problem prevented her from
getting what she needed.
Eloise stopped talking. She looked at Jill
until Jill stopped talking.
"What is it? Eloise you're making me nervous.
What are you looking at?"
Eloise brought her finger up to her mouth in a
"Shhh" motion.
Jill sat silent, nervous.
Eloise reached across the table with both
hands bidding Jill to do the same. When Jill did,
Eloise took both her hands. Instantly there was a
flow of energy and love go through Eloise's hands
and into Jill. Eloise saw Jill as a quiet,
confident woman who was no longer nervous and who
felt within her as a loving, strong human being.
Jill moaned as she felt this happening. She
looked at Eloise and the pair of them knew Jill
was a whole woman, in spirit as well as body.
Within her Jill felt strong, confident and happy.
In her lifetime there had only been moments when
she felt this way. Now, in this moment, she knew
this was to be a new way of life for her.
She pulled her hands away from Eloise and
wept. Deep within her she knew her fears and her
insecurities had been forgiven, that she no longer
need carry that burden and she was released from
the terrible bondage that had plagued her all her
life. She cried the deep cry of knowing.
Slowly, with tear filled eyes, she raised her
head. She mouthed the words "Thank you" for she
had not the wherewithall to make the sounds.
Eloise knew what was going on. She broadcast
love, the more.
It was at that moment Alewka appeared. In the
flash of an eye Alewka knew what was going on.
Saying nothing she silently slipped into the booth
beside Jill and put her arms around her. Alewka,
too, broadcast love, sending it deep within Jill
and allowing Jill to know she was loved, accepted
and found to be a wonderful person. Jill wept some
more, turning to place her head on Alewka's
shoulder. They stayed that way for nearly 15
minutes.
Eventually Jill came around. All this while no
one had spoken a word.
"Thank you for what you have done. I realize I
have changed inside me. I feel different. For the
first time in my life I feel whole, complete,
accepted." Even the timbre of Jill's voice had
changed. It reflected the confidence she felt
inside.
"Jill, for the first while you will have to be
careful and watch the relationships you get into.
There are those around you who will change toward
you and there will be men who will want to take
you out. You must think about these things
beforehand that you do not fall head over heels in
love with the first man that pays attention to
you. You are now able to have a completely normal
life free from the fears of the past, but you have
much to learn. Remember that and you will find
your way with love and confidence. Remember, too,
that you are not compelled to do anything you
don't want to do. Go deep inside and commune with
your Maker to determine the actions you must take.
Your Maker will always tell you the right things
to do, without exception."
"I will have to practice that. I have not done
it before."
"That is how I live my life every moment,
Jill. That is what higher law is about. Do this
and you will learn much and will always be
guided."

TODAY'S REPORT:
As usual I'm taking time off and being lazy. My daughter and
two of her three children came out to visit yesterday. I love that.
She has one little girl about eight who wanted to take violin
lessons. Her Mother enrolled her and she is doing great. I
teasingly told her last summer that I was going to take guitar
lessons and the pair of us would start up a rock band. She
knows I tease a lot so that is how she took it.
You should have seen her eyes light up yesterday when
I played a couple tunes for her on my guitar. Oh, the joys
of being a grandparent. This summer we're going to practice
together so we can play some songs around our summer
campfires.
