TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What US president kept pet rats in the White House?

What 17th century revolutionary was beheaded
two years AFTER he died?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can rats climb trees?

Yes, indeedy. They can climb trees and enter houses through
second-story windows. Better buy some screens. One type of
rat - the roof rat - is an agile climber that can shinny the outside
of a three-inch diameter pipe or any size pipe within three inches
of a wall. Rats are even capable of climbing INSIDE vertical pipes
that are one-and-a-half to four inches in diameter. What's more,
they're excellent jumpers and capable of dropping from a height
of fifty feet without seriously harming themselves.

Can rats swim?

Rats can hold their breath for three minutes and can tread
water for three days. Norway rats (the kind you're likely to see
in US cities) can swim as far as half a mile in open water. They
can also dive through water plumbing traps and swim through
sewer lines against strong water currents. No wonder these little
guys have been around for so long!

TITLE ARTICLE - - -

Around The Net

Here is a piece of news from Reuters. While it
speaks of a condition in the U.S. it is a sample of what
is happening all over.

Internet Passes Radio for Political News -Survey
Sun Mar 6, 2005 4:08 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Internet surpassed radio
as a source for political news in the United States last
year as more people went online to keep up with the
presidential election campaign, according to a new
report released on Sunday.

Twenty-nine percent of U.S. adults used the Internet to
get political news last year, according to the Pew Internet
and American Life Project. That's up from 4 percent in
1996 and 18 percent in 2000.

Television remained the dominant medium for most
voters, but 18 percent said they got most of their political
news from the Internet, compared with 17 percent who
said they turned to the radio for their news.

For those with a broadband connection at home, the
Internet rivaled newspapers in importance.

Most Internet users surveyed said they voted to re-elect
Republican President Bush, but supporters of Democratic
challenger Sen. John Kerry were more likely to say the
Internet helped them settle on a candidate.

The nonpartisan Pew Internet and American Life Project
surveyed 2,200 U.S. adults between Nov. 4 and
Nov. 24, 2004. The survey's margin of error was plus
or minus two percentage points, or plus or minus three
percentage points for questions that surveyed the
smaller subset of Internet users.

-----------

The point of placing this article was to bring your attention
to the idea that more and more folks are using the internet
to get their information. Those of you who run businesses
but do not yet use the internet for sending out newsletters
are missing a valuable and relatively inexpensive way to
reach your public.

Rebound
Recognizing That Too Much Of A Good
Thing Might Not Continue To Be Good.
PART 2 of 3

Another definition of rebound is what can happen when you are
taking too many headache remedies too often or overusing one.
According to the National Headache Foundation, the only way to
stop this is to stop the medication, but don't do this without
your doctor's knowledge. Other corrective measures might be
needed to help overcome this result.

Headaches may "rebound" as the last dose wears off, leading one
to take more and more pills. Please consult your pharmacist or
doctor. Are you aware that caffeine can also cause physical
dependence when it is used for a long time? This may lead to
those withdrawal (rebound) headaches when you stop taking it.
But one of the big challenges is that often your doctor doesn't
KNOW what meds OR OTHER things you are taking. These headache
remedies may contain caffeine. Now think this through. You may
already be getting a dose of caffeine in your cappuccino.
Research hasn't proved or disproved that caffeine-containing
headache brands may be more likely to trigger rebound headaches,
but just keep it in mind. And as I preach a lot.think before you
switch to the decaffeinated products. Remember that pure
chemicals create the actual decaffeination process. And they in
their turn may cause you more problems. Maybe you just need to
cut back and watch for negative signs, such as hyperactivity and
feelings jittery. Some drugs also cause indirect rebound
headaches. For instance, codeine is a narcotic analgesic. It's a
painkiller and acts on your central nervous system. This means
your whole body is numbed to any painful effects. And when you
take some pain killers for a long time, your body may get used
to them. Then larger amounts are needed to produce the same
effects. This result is called "becoming tolerant". When you
decide to stop this cycle you may have already become
"dependent" and your body will go through a withdrawal
process.cleaning out the residual effects. One of the first
signs you will have most likely, will be (rebound) headaches.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

As was Sam's style he already had a supply of
wood cut and neatly stacked just outside the back
door of the cabin. It meant they would have to
carry armfuls of the wood out front to the fire
pit, but that was okay.

Sam filled up his arms and asked Mazunta to do
the same. Between the pair of them they had enough
wood for the fire to last as long as they needed.
Maybe they would have to get another armful.

Sam had long developed a certain way to set up
the fire so it would start quickly and begin to
give off heat.

The sun was down now and it would not be long
before it was full dark. The evening was beginning
to cool. Even on the hottest days the evenings
cooled in this country. That doesn't mean it was
cold, or even cool enough to require jackets but
it was noticible.

There were already chairs and benches set up
around the fire, and if they needed any more there
were collapsible chairs up on the deck in front of
the cabin.

The fire was going pretty good. Sam and Maz
were sitting, soaking up the heat from the flames.
The kids were still playing hide and seek, now
becoming more interesting as the darkness settled.

Every once in a while one of them would go by,
every time with their finger up to their mouth in
a "Shhhsh" sign. The men loved it. They sat there
listening to the kids play. The sounds were those
of joy and happiness. Probably nothing in the
world can be more pleasant than the sound of
children happily at play. Here, in the quiet and
in the dark that seemed amplified. It made ones
heart glad.

The ladies came out to join them and the four
adults sat around the fire just talking of their
day, of the weather and about a lot of things, but
not much of anything. It was one of those times
just to enjoy.

Alewka produced coffees and hot chocolate for
those who wanted some. And the conversation
continued. Camp fires are mesmerizing. They are
like watching TV in a way. You can watch them all
night, not saying much, and feel part of this
universe. That is what was happening, interrupted
only by one of the kids running past.

The adults must have been sitting there for
near three hours before the kids tired of their
game and joined them. The little ones were getting
tired and hot chocolate would have a wonderful
effect on them.

Eloise manifested some for each of the little
ones. They slowly sipped away, loving the
sweetness of the chocolate. They never had
anything like that at home. Soon they were leaning
up against their parents legs, slumping more and
more as the talking went on. From all the fires at
home Maz and Eloise knew the right moment to put
the kids to bed. Away they went without a whimper.
They gave kisses and hugs all around and followed
their Mother into the cabin. This would be a good
night for each of them.

Billy and Tom were older, and, living by
higher law were entirely independent. They would
go when they were ready, as would the adults.

The moon came up full and bright. The breezes
settled into the evening and all that could be
heard was a loon's call once in a while, and the
geese, across the way on a small reed filled
island. They did their breeding over there because
it was safe and many a couple had a flock swimming
along behind them.

The evening shadows were elusive and changing.
One could not see so well as to be able to
identify everything, but the moon still gave good
enough light that one could go boating or swimming
and see what they were doing.

When Eloise got back from putting the kids
down, that is what she wanted to do. She wanted to
paddle the boat up and down the shoreline to see
who was here and who wasn't. It seemed like a trip
down memory lane for her and somewhat romantic.

"Let's go Maz. You can row and we'll just go
up and down the shore."

"Excuse us, folks. I think your daughter has
romantic notions." Maz ducked the swing Eloise
threw at him, and laughed.

The pair of them walked down to the pier and
got into Sam's rowboat. The small motor was tipped
up on the back and neither wanted to lower it,
start it and travel that way. They wanted to row.
It was slower, quieter and more like home.

Maz would have preferred to have a canoe for
he was used to that kind of paddling. It took him
a dozen strokes or more to get himself
synchronized but then it caught on and he was
away. They didn't stay out long but they were
quiet and they chatted away about each of their
days. Maz and Eloise made it a point to have some
quiet time together each day, regardless what was
going on around them. They wanted to maintain that
wherever they were. This was their quiet time
together this day.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

Little Josh was brought to Dr Gill cause he hadn't
eaten anything for days. Dr Gill offered him all the
goodies he could think of. No luck. He tried a little
scolding. It didn't work. A little pleading, to no
avail.

Finally he sat down, faced the boy, looked him in the
eye. He said "Look young man, if you can be stubborn,
so can I. You're not going anywhere till you eat
something. You can have whatever you want, but
only after you have eaten will you leave. "

Josh just sat and glared for some time, then said "Ok.
I'll eat but I have some conditions. First, I'll have
exactly what I want and exactly how I want it and
second you'll share with me."

Dr Gill was ok with this. He asked the child what he'd
like. "Worms!" said Josh.

Dr Gill was horrified but didn't want to back out and
seem like a loser. So, he ordered a plate of worms to
be brought in. "Not that many, just one," yelled Josh
as he saw the plate.

So, everything other than one worm was removed. Josh
then demanded that the single worm be cut into two and
then Dr Gill eat half. Dr Gill went through the worst
ordeal of his life, and after finishing barely
managing to keep his cool said, "Ok, now eat!"

Josh refused as he sobbed, "No way! You ate my half!"
