TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How did the Easter bunny get his start?
What about Easter eggs?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What bird (existing today) has the largest wingspan?
The albatross has a wingspan of 10-12 feet! The condor,
with a wingspan of 9-10 feet, is not far behind.
How did "Easter" get its name?
The name "Easter" is usually attributed to Eostre (also
spelled "Eastre"), the Great Mother Goddess of the
Saxon people in Northern Europe. Her name was derived
from the ancient word for spring, "eastre," and she is also
known as the goddess of spring and of the dawn. The
Venerable Bede, an early Christian scholar, is the one to
first assert that Easter was named after this goddess.
Why would a Christian holiday be named after a
pagan goddess?
In the Christian faith, Easter celebrates the resurrection of
Christ and is the most sacred of all holy days. So why does
it carry the name of an ancient Saxon festival honoring the
goddess Eastre? You can attribute it to the work of second
century Christian missionaries eager to convert the
Teutonic tribes north of Rome to Christianity. The missionaries
were smart enough to realize that interfering too much with
the pagan tribes' established customs would make it
impossible to convert them. Instead, they quietly transformed
existing pagan practices into ceremonies that harmonized
with Christian doctrine. There was another good reason for
this. Christian converts celebrating Christian rites would be
the target among non-Christians for persecution. But if the
Christian could celebrate his rites on the same day as a major
non-Christian festival, he'd be less noticeable and less
offensive to those who didn't share his beliefs. Since the
Eastre festival to celebrate spring coincided with the time
of the Christian observance of the resurrection of Christ, it
made sense to alter the Eastre festival and make it a Christian
one as converts were slowly won over. The early name,
Eastre, was eventually changed to its modern spelling, Easter.
A final indication of the antiquity of the Easter holiday is its
date. It is determined by the ancient lunar calendar system,
which places it on the first Sunday after the first full moon
on or following the Vernal Spring Equinox.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
When Black Jack Ketchum was hung back in 1901 in Clayton New
Mexico, the noose actually ended up taking his head off. The
head had to be sewn back on so Black Jack could be buried
properly.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------
Be Compassionate
Are you compassionate with yourself? Do you accord
yourself the same
consideration you would extend to another? Do you say
the same things to
yourself that you would say to another in the same
circumstances? This is a
very important consideration.
You know the Golden Rule? It says "Do unto others as
you would have them do
unto you"...followed by the directive to "Love your
neighbor as yourself".
Now, interesting to note, should either of these
principles appeal to you, that it does not say, "Love
your neighbor instead of yourself" or "Love your
neighbor better than yourself" or "Love your neighbor
more than yourself." What happens within ourselves to
often interpret this in ways that make ourselves less,
and others more?
If you examine these thoughts and then reflect on the
ways you speak to yourself, what do you learn? Most
folks are much, much harder on themselves than they
would ever be on another person. They expect so much
more from themselves than from others. They find fault
in themselves where they would be understanding of
another. How about you? How is your self-love
quotient? Loving yourself is the only place to come
from if you wish to truly love another fully. You have
to have a gift before you can give it, right?
Sometimes folks think that the 'Golden Rule' comes only
from the major religion practiced in North America,
however, that is not true. It's important to know that
a similar phrase is expressed in all ten of the major
religions of the world. Imagine if every single person
who claims to belong to those religions all agreed to
practice just that one phrase for one month. This world
would be transformed!
In the meantime, practice being as kind to yourself as
you would be to your best friend. Hopefully, this will
be very easy for you. You'll notice that, when you do
this, you are much kinder to everyone else you meet.
What a gift!

Bioburden: How Much Is Too Much
How Many Bugs (Micro-organisms) Create A Problem
PART 4 of 11
Studies show that the more people that are in the
hospital, the higher the bioburden is. Hospital air
bioburden changes very frequently, depending on the
tasks being performed. Doesnt this then make sense
that in flu season, visitors are discouraged? Not only
do they bring with them flu viruses, but also increase
the bioburden of the facility simply because they are
there.
We already know that respiratory viruses such as
influenza are transmitted through airborne means.
Research is now showing that viruses from vomitus can
be spread the same way. Does this now help you to get
an inkling of the methods of spread in a care facility
during the flu season?
So it is very important to discard any vomit carefully
in order to stop more spread. If it happens in a care
facility, could this not also happen in your home?
Can you also see how re-infection can occur? It is
also very well known that the bioburden from ten people
is a lot more than from one or two people. In
hospitals, as with other buildings, it is generally
recognized that most bacteria found in the air are
generated by the occupants and do not come from
outside. They can survive for considerable time in the
environment and can be easily distributed around
buildings by air currents.
Generally, you wouldnt know if the bioburden
contents are negative or positive: healthy or
unhealthy. They just are. All it means is that
something is alive and most likely growing or expanding
in numbers. However, the term bioburden is normally
identified with the presence of harmful
micro-organisms, also called pathogens
(disease-causing). These microbes strive for survival:
they are compelled to live. In order to stay alive,
active, and harmful, they have to live in a supportive
environment. This environment provides such things as
food, warmth, moisture, and darkness. (Some
micro-organisms can even survive without any oxygen.)

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Sam, it seems impossible to me. I don't
understand it. I 'm not even sure I want to talk
about it. It frightens me."
"That's fine, Kip. We need not go into it any
further, although if you ever get a chance to get
down to visit Mazunta and Eloise you will find it
to be a trip of a lifetime."
"By all means, Kip. If you would like to visit
us just let Sam know and we'll arrange it. You
would enjoy it, I'm sure." Mazunta affirmed the
invitation.
The coffee time was over. The guests, would be
rescuers, said their good byes and dispersed to
their own cabins. That left Sam, Alewka, Eloise
and Mazunta sitting on the front deck finishing
off their coffees.
"You know, I think I'll have another. This is
such a nice day, the kids are playing nicely and I
have such wonderful company, I think I'll just sit
here and enjoy it."
It didn't take much persuading. The others
agreed and joined Sam for more coffee.
The cabin was a frame building, without a
basement. Sam, the engineer, had built it on a
very solid footing of concrete, then built the
flooring properly, giving the rest of the cabin a
sturdy foundation. The place wasn't too large,
maybe 900 square feet. It had a large living room
and kitchen area, a bathroom and three bedrooms.
Outside the rear and two sides had no appendages
other than a step at the back. The front, however,
had a 12 by 20 foot deck that was covered over
with a roof that was actually a planned extension
of the roof to the building. This deck allowed
them to sit outside, yet be out of the hot sun or
the rains.
Every once in a while Sam had threatened to
screen in the porch to keep the mosquitos away.
Now, living by higher law, there was no need, for
nothing in your Maker's world will come near you
if not wanted.
So there they sat, enjoying the day, chatting
with one another, just taking life easy. One can
do that much more often when you live by higher
law for it eliminates 90% of the chores, labors
and worries that exist for men who follow
man's rules.
Every once in a while you could hear a parent
calling for one of the kids because it was lunch
time, or time to leave, or some other reason. But
for the most part the noises of the lake were
those of the birds, the waves, the kids playing,
splashing and having fun, plus motor boats.
On the weekends there were always motor boats.
Occasionally there were large platform style
boats that would come by carrying large groups of
people. Often in the evening these boats would
come slowly past with groups singing on them. That
was always pleasant and always drew people out
onto their piers to see and hear.
Kip had gone home and, like a kid with a new
toy, prepared his new boat, launched it and came
over to Sam's and Alewka's. As he approached the
pier, the kids helped him dock. Sam, Mazunta,
Alewka and Eloise came down to the pier and
admired Kip's boat. He had come over to take them
for a ride.
Mazunta and the kids had never been in such a
boat. As Kip launched again, then started forward
they were surprised at the power. It wasn't two
seconds before Kip was up to speed, and it was
fast. The wind was blowing through their hair and
they had to catch their breath for the first
little while until they became used to the ride.
That didn't take long. Even though they were
travelling fast the boat felt completely safe and
the ride was fun.
A little way into the ride Kip pulled back on
the throttle and asked if Sam or Mazunta would
like to pilot. Neither of the men wanted to so Kip
continued on as captain.
The tour of the lake took about 30 minutes.
There were all sorts of nooks and crannies to
explore. There were some places yet without
buildings on them, but for the most part the lake
was fully developed. Kip was sure to point out the
places where the fishing was good, areas where
water skiers like to practice, being out of the
winds, notable citizen's cabins and the like.
There was even an area undeveloped where a
farmer was working in his field. He had a tractor
and was pulling a swather, cutting his abundant
crop of wheat. There were cattle up on top of a
hill, grazing and the farmer's buildings were just
showing roof tops behind that same hill. The kids
were fascinated. Again, they had seen nothing like
this.
This vacation at Gramdma's and Grandpa's was
becoming very full with all the new sights and
sounds.
Kip brought them back to their own pier. They
all thanked him and Mazunta, once more asked if he
would like to come visit. Kip said he would think
about it.

HA! HA! HA!
A cop stopped a man for going more than the posted
speed limit. Since he's in a good mood that day he
decides he might give the fellow a break and write him
out a warning instead of a ticket. So, he asks the man
his name.
"Fred," he replies.
"Fred what?" the officer asks.
"Just Fred," the man responds.
When the officer presses him for a last name, the man
tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it.
The officer thinks he has a nut case on his hands but
plays along with it.
"Tell me Fred, how did you lose your last name?"
The man replies, "It's a long story so stay with me.
I was born Fred Dingaling. I know, funny last name. The
kids used to tease me all the time. So I stayed to
myself, I studied hard and got good grades. When
I got older I realized that I wanted to be a doctor.
I went through college medical school, internship,
residency, finally got my degree so I was Fred
Dingaling, MD.
After a while I got bored being a doctor so I decided
to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream. Got all
the way through school, got my degree so I was now Fred
Dingaling, MD, DDS.
Got bored doing dentistry so I started fooling around
with my assistant. She gave me VD. So, I was Fred
Dingaling, MD, DDS with VD. Well, the ADA found out
about the VD so they took away my DDS so I was
Fred Dingaling MD with VD. Then the AMA found out
about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so
they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Dingaling with
VD. Then the VD took away my dingaling so now I'm just
Fred."
The officer walked away in tears laughing!
