What scientist invented Jello AND built the first
American locomotive?

Peter Cooper. It seems that the good scientists are always
dabbling in different fields!

What is forensic entomology?

Forensic entomology is a newly emerging scientific discipline
that helps to solve murders. Entomology is the study of insects
and forensic entomologists can estimate how long a corpse
has been dead by looking at the different insects that have
invaded the body. Factors such as temperature and location
are taken into account. The head investigator on the hit crime
drama C.S.I. likes to use bugs to solve murders!

TITLE ARTICLE - - -

Fear Factor
by Olabisi(DJ)

Is it possible for an individual to pass a course of
instruction with high marks and remain ineffective?

Is it possible that this person never actually learned
anything, but merely gathered enough information and
remember it well enough to repeat the process?

Learning should make you a more effective individual,
learning should improve the quality of your life.

Do you ever wonder why some stuff stick in your brain
and other stuff fall out?

See, it's because.......

When your brain is bored, nothing seems to stick. But
when you play with ideas and think creatively, the
things you learn stay in your head because it's a cool
and interesting place to be

This is the power of learning!

Right Now i want you to think about your future
possibilities and the fact that your potential is
virtually unlimited.

You can do what you want to do and go where you want to
go. You can be the person you want to be.

You can set both large and small goals and make plans
and move step-by-step, progressively toward their
realization.

There are no obstacles to what you can accomplish
except the obstacles that you create in your mind.

The power of learning turns eager desires into reality,
giving you the inner drive to increase your salary ...
achieve financial security

.. lead a happier, more fulfilling life ... and enrich
the lives of everyone around you.

Once that image burns into your brain, fear will no
longer be a factor for you.

Stop, Look and Listen to what you are learning.

What do you notice?

What are you learning?

Is it time to go create a new version of YOU?

Be Good.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Why Do We Have To Be Healthy?
PART 1 of 5

I received this unusual question and though you might
be an interested in this thought-provoking idea. (I
suspect it was part of a class project.) Indeed why
should we be healthy…what is the opposite or
alternative? The word “health” encompasses several
parts of your being: physical, mental, social.

Mosby’s describes it as “a condition of physical,
mental social well-being and the absence of disease or
other abnormal condition. It is not a static condition;
constant change and adaptation to stress result in
homeostasis”. Homeostasis is defined as “a relative
constancy in the internal environment of the body,
naturally maintained by adaptive responses that promote
healthy survival”. (All of these definitions come from
Mosby’s 5th Edition.) We always assume health is only
physical, but it also includes your social and mental
health. Physical fitness or health is defined as “the
ability to carry out daily tasks with alertness and
vigor, without undue fatigue and with enough energy
reserve to meet emergencies or to enjoy leisure time
pursuits.” The social aspect refers to “the ability of
an individual to fit in with the expectations of a
particular group, .acquiring beliefs, habits, values
and acceptable modes of behaviour, etc.” Webster
defines health as “the state of being hale, sound, or
whole, in body, mind, or soul; especially, the state of
being free from physical disease or pain.” I won’t go
into this in more detail...I just want you to
understand that health is not just about your physical
body. It has to include your mental and social state as
well.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures and
leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Within an hour the rain stopped as suddenly as
it had begun. But in that hour there was over a
half inch of water fell. The day was considerably
cooled off and the sweet smell or pure, cool air
that always followed a rain was like icing on a
cake. It was delightful, refreshing, a renewal.

Lights out came early tonight. The day had
been a long and full one for everyone, especially
the kids.

They all turned in, and were sleeping the
sleep of babies, one that comes from not fretting,
no anxieties, no guilt.

K-A-B-O-O-O-O-O-O-M

The noise was ear shattering. The building shook.
Every window in the place broke. The noise scared
everyone. The kids were crying .

All were out of bed in an instant, hearts
beating a mile a minute. The kids came running to
Eloise. They were shaking.

The men dressed immediately and went outside.
The ladies knew no one could walk with broken
glass all over.

Alewka dressed and immediately put to work
repairing each window. She saw each one as perfect
and as she did so the broken glass seemed to fly
back into position, rendering the window complete
and at the same time removing all glass from the
floors where it had been a danger.

Next she looked in all the kitchen cupboards
checking for damage there. When all was well she
gave the all clear. The kids were then allowed to
walk around.

The men knew instantly what had happened. As
they stepped out their attention was drawn to the
neighbors house. It was burning with a fury. There
were voices to be heard as neighbors came running.

There were no fire fighting facilities out
here. All one could do is watch, except Sam,
Mazunta, Tim, Tom and Billy. The men knew there
was at least one person in the cabin, so Sam
walked right through the fire and into the house.

Mazunta sent the command to Tim, Tom and
Billy. "Get around the building. Where you see
fire remove all it's source of oxygen."

The four of them surrounded the building and
did just that. In a matter of minutes the fire was
out, having been starved of oxygen.

Sam came out of the building carrying the
neighbor. His ribs had been crushed in the
compression from the explosion. He reeked of
liquor, and he was moaning. Sam was none too
gentle with him. It was his fault this happened.

Surveying the damage after the fire was out
led one to believe a volcano had exploded right
out of the center of the building. There was wood
structure everywhere. The roof had been deposited
in pieces out front. Each wall had fallen outward,
crushing trees in their wake. There was glass,
cupboards, beds, clothes strewn all over. The
place created a disaster zone.

Sam put the man down. While he had been inside
the house he had a vision of what had occurred.
The man had been drinking all day after the wife
and kids had left him. He had not eaten but drank
instead. Very late at night, after midnight, he
decided he was hungry. He virtually crawled up to
the propane stove to turn it on. He was going for
matches after having turned the burner on and
while doing so tripped in his stupor and just lay
there. It took about 15 minutes for the propane
fumes from the stove to hit the pilot light on the
wall furnace. The explosion disintegrated the
house as if it had been made of match sticks,
where, in fact, it had been exceptionally well
built. It had been a very solid house.

That is why the compression within the
building was huge. It broke the man's ribs and his
eardrums. When his ribs broke they punctured a
lung. He was bleeding internally.

Sam, Mazunta and the others checked around to
see if there were others injured. There were none.
Only some very frightened people.

With all around being all right Sam turned his
attention to the drunk rolling in pain on the
ground. Sam stood at his feet and gave the
command. The man rose. Sam had perfected his body
but did not remove a lot of the pain the man was
feeling. He continued to moan and whimper.

Up to now the man did not know what had
happened. He had been lying on the floor in a
drunken stupor. Only now did he see his cabin.
"Wh... wha...what happened?" Sam told him in terms
that were not so polite. Sam was not mean but he
wanted to ensure the man had a very clear
understanding of why this happened. "You can be
very thankful your wife and kids aren't here."

HA! HA! HA!

I work in a personnel office with the government in

you leave your previous employment?"

One applicant, a former U.S. Congressman, responded,
"The express wish of 116,000 voters."
