TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What are the four leading fatal events occurring in the home?

When did dinosaurs become extinct?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Who is more prone to accidents -- males or females?

Males are more accident-prone. In every category of
accident you can think of -- falls, fires, car wrecks, chokings,
poisonings, and even drownings -- more men die each
year than women. In fact, seventy percent of all accident
victims are male. Be careful, guys!

Where are you most likely to suffer a fatal injury -- home
or workplace?

This is an easy one: the home is more dangerous than
the workplace by far. According to the National Safety
Council, 33,300 fatalities occurred in the home in 2002,
compared to 4,900 workplace fatalities due to unintentional
injuries. Approximately an additional 1,200 deaths in the
workplace are due to homicides and suicides each year.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!™
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------

High-Flyers, Tightropes & Safety Nets

Success in both your personal and professional life
means having the abilities of a trapeze
artist--flexibility, strength, focus and skill,
heightened by resilience, perseverance, determination
and practice. Accommodating change and maintaining
sanity require these things!

An Executive Director is part steward, consultant,
business analyst and manager demanding the skills of a
diplomat, politician, referee, educator, ethicist,
coach, surgeon, healer, negotiator and cheerleader. The
strength and variety of his or her repertoire is a
prime indicator of competence. and longevity! They are
called to hold the "big picture" while focusing on the
details, test assumptions while managing personalities,
and dance beautifully while listening to many tunes
simultaneously. This is an amazing feat requiring a
safety net of clarity, willingness, skills and a
high-level of self-care!

Strategic intention and planning involves everyone in
the act focusing on the same standards to create an
optimal performance. In the Association world, there
is more-the direction, considerations and varied levels
of expertise of the people in the box seats, your
Board.

The creation of economic viability is vital and so is
the opportunity for each individual to meet his
professional goals within the organization. This, then,
needs to become an important criterion for new members
of the act. Are you and your staff on the same
platform? Do you share the same performance goals? Do
you bring rich, varied and strong backgrounds and
skill sets that enable you to keep a broad perspective
while maintaining your focus? A successful team has
key specialists-flyers, catchers, riggers, managers,
ringmasters--who each know that the dazzling
performance and the safety of the act depends on each
player's level of trust, skill and commitment. The
performance counts on it! There are risks. No one is
likely to try a quadruple summersault if she cannot
rely on the catcher! As any good trapeze artist knows,
you have to be able to let go to catch on! And, this is
all without considering the expectations of the
spectators!

High-performing acts need diverse strategies, skills
and great timing. They are masters at choosing the
appropriate act for differing conditions, venues
and audiences. They are versatile. High-performance,
collaborative teams have complementary skills, are
committed to a common purpose, a unified approach
AND--- here's the kicker---they agree to hold one
another mutually accountable. That's what makes it safe
to fly--to risk--knowing that, even if you fall, the
safety net is there ready to bounce you back to the
performing platform.

Enlightened associations are caring. They demonstrate
that they value their employees by giving them skills,
input, and, opportunities to realize their professional
goals. Unfortunately, there are still the
unenlightened described by David Whyte in The Heart
Aroused: "The hard news is that the [work} world wants
us around while we are useful, but it offers no
security based on how likable or impassioned we are....
Individuals...are continually forced to reassess their
abilities to live with unknown and open-ended
situations, to actively create their own life
independent of the organization, and to like
themselves while they are doing it. " Good
self-care principles! They will keep you flying!

So, with that in mind, how is your gymnastic ability?
What is your plan for maintaining balance between your
personal and career goals? Do you like yourself at
work? How far are you willing to stretch? Where are
your boundaries and limits? What do you value? How
comfortable are you with risk? Do you know your limits
of tolerance for change, stress, rigidity, ambiguity,
and uncertainty? How deep is your desire for a life
that matches your values?

Are you willing to do whatever it takes to achieve
this? Can you clearly articulate your personal vision,
intentions, principles and standards? Only then can you
bring clarity to the workplace, and sanity to your
"act".

Reflecting on these things has much value. You will be
better prepared to assess situations as they arise and
create solutions that honor what is valuable to you and
to the organization. You will respond with greater
assurance and immediacy. When you know yourself well,
you know when to fly and when to catch, when to risk
and when to rest. Be skilled on the platform, polish
your act and always create your own safety net!

CALCIUM: HOW TO TAKE IT FOR BEST ABSORPTION
Be Aware Of The Difference

Calcium can be taken in one of several combinations.
For most benefit, you should read and follow the
directions on the bottle. (As you should for everything
you eat.) Calcium should be taken with Vitamin D for
maximum absorption Be aware, too, that taking calcium
with meals can interfere with iron absorption. As it is
fine to take it outside of mealtime, this should be
considered.

CALCIUM CARBONATE
If your supplement contains calcium carbonate, you
should take it with meals. Calcium carbonate is also
more likely to cause constipation. Take multiple,
small doses for maximum effectiveness.

CALCIUM CITRATE
If it contains calcium citrate, it can be taken at any time.

Suggested daily Calcium intake: (1500 mgs. of
elemental calcium) Foods highest in calcium
content: milk, including buttermilk and chocolate.
Calcium fortified drinks…soy, rice, Skim milk powder,
Yogurt

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Once you're in it Mary it isn't so bad. It
was only the apprehension before the trip began
that was hard, and it was hard for our parents,
too, just waiting for news."

"Where did you go?"

"We ended up in South America. It took us a
couple months to figure that out. Then we had to
figure out where in South America we were. Once we
had that we had a pretty good idea the way we had
to go to get home. But the rainy season was on us
and we couldn't go anywhere for six months. During
that time David and a new friend, a chap by the
name of Boolanga, built a canoe. When the rains
were over we were able to travel down the Amazon
river until we got to Boolanga's village. There we
stayed for a week or so. That is where I met
Mazunta. He was the headman of the village. He set
things up so we could travel down river to a
trading town and from there we drove to Matto
Grosso where David caught a plane and flew home. A
lot of the rest you know from the television and
from the papers."

"Wow! How did you survive in the jungle. David
was a bit of a ladies man. How did you handle him?
You can't tell me he wasn't all over you?"

"We did have a run in or two, but once that
was settled that was no longer a problem. Speaking
of David, Mary, he is a changed man. He, too, has
learned how to live by higher law and has become a
man with whom you would be pleased to associate.
He is a fine friend. He came back up here and
married Pamela and the pair of them decided to
live in our village. They now have two kids and
are living just fine. Pam, too, has learned higher
law. They are a wonderful couple, much appreciated
by the village. David is also quite a carver. You
should see the canoes he has made for the village.
Anytime you would like to visit you need only ask
and I will take you there."

"That might be nice Eloise, but it is so far."

"Not as we travel, Mary. We can be there in an
instant."

"Come on Eloise. You keep pulling my leg."

"Do you enjoy that coffee, Mary?"

That brought the ideas back to Mary. She
couldn't help but think on that point.

"I have some sausage and cheese in the fridge.
Would you like some?" Mary wanted to change the
subject. She wasn't sure she wanted to think on
the things Eloise had introduced.

"I think that would be nice but we can eat
these." Eloise had manifested the plate she saw in
Mary's mind.

Mary was astonished. There in the middle of
the coffee table that stretched in front of the
sofa, was a large plate on which were slices of
sausage meat, shrimp, pickles, olives, three
different cheeses and three different kinds of
crackers. There were cut up vegetables and there
were three different dips.

"Eloise! Did you do that?"

"Yes, Mary. We came to visit, not have you in
the kitchen all night. Tell me about the house.
Did you guys buy it? Was it on the market? Or did
you build it?"

Eloise knew but wanted to draw them into
conversation.

"We built it. Brock's Dad owns the furniture
store, so I think he pays Brock a little more than
he would if Brock were somebody else. However,
instead of paying the extra money to Brock he put
it into a savings account. Brock worked for his
Dad for four years before we got married and when
we did get married he took that money, added some
more to it and gave us a huge down payment for the
house. We kept our nose to the grindstone so to
speak and in the next eight years we paid it off.
We had a mortgage burning party just last year.
But being more specific and in answering your
question, we built the house. We had plans of our
own and the contractor made changes to a house he
already had designed."

"Well, congratulations. Not many folks have
their houses paid for at your age. Good going."

"We wanted to be debt free as soon as we
could, so I worked for three years before we
started a family. So far things have worked out
just fine."

"They usually do, Mary, for those who plan
things out and who work together to follow the
plan. That's good. I'm proud of you." Eloise was
proud of her friends. They were still held captive
by material goods, however, they worked hard to
keep themselves in a position where they felt free
of the burden of debt.

Brock spoke up. "Tell us about where you live.
From what you have said so far it sounds exotic."

HA! HA! HA!

It was a dark, stormy, night. The Marine was on his
first assignment, and it was guard duty.
A General stepped out taking his dog for a walk. The
nervous young Private snapped to attention, made a
perfect salute, and snapped out "Sir, Good Evening,
Sir!"

The General, out for some relaxation, returned the
salute and said "Good evening soldier, nice night,
isn't it?"

Well it wasn't a nice night, but the Private wasn't
going to disagree with the General, so the he saluted
again and replied "Sir, Yes Sir!".

The General continued, "You know there's something
about a stormy night that I find soothing, it's really
relaxing. Don't you agree?"

The Private didn't agree, but them the private was just
a private, and responded "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General, pointing at the dog, "This is a Golden
Retriever, the best type of dog to train."

The Private glanced at the dog, saluted yet again and
said "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General continued "I got this dog for my wife."
The Private simply said "Good trade Sir!"
