Is caffeine addictive?
Is caffeine illegal anywhere?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Where do we get the word "berserk"?
"Berserk," an adjective meaning frenzied or crazed, can be
traced back to the ancient Scandinavian "Berserkers,"
warriors who were so frenzied in battle that they were held
to be invulnerable. The word comes from the Old Norse
"bjorn" (bear) and "serkr" (shirt). According to
Encyclopedia Britannica , the berserkers' savagery in battle
and their animal-skin attire contributed to the development
of the werewolf legend in Europe. It is unclear whether the
berserker warriors wore bear and wolf skins into battle or
fought naked; tapestries and other sources depict both
possibilities.
How does caffeine affect the body?
Caffeine consumption stimulates the central nervous system
and increases the rate and force of the heart's
contractions. Blood pressure rises, delivering more oxygen
to the brain and other tissues. In moderate does, caffeine
enhances alertness, energy, and concentration. However,
caffeine is also a mild diuretic and excessive levels can
lead to dehydration. Caffeine can also cause people to feel
more relaxed and cause certain types of blood vessels to
open. But habitual use, in some people, can result in
irritability, restlessness, and insomnia.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
My How We Cling To Bondage
The priest said to the poor farmer, "If you had a horse,
would you give it to the Lord?"
"Yes."
"And if you had a cow?"
"Absolutely."
"And a goat?"
"Sure."
"A pig?"
"Now, that's not fair!" protested the farmer.
"You know I have a pig!"
I wonder how typical this response is? I find folks
hang on to material goods like they were the very
essence of life.
In the quiet recesses of ones soul you will find there
is no need for material goods, that once there and
maintaining communication you really have all the
things you want or need.
Few there are who recognize this point. One doesn't
have to give up all he has. He must "DETACH" from
all he has. The entire idea is that when one becomes
too attached to anything material he or they forfeit
their opportunity to meet and have a one on one
communication with their Maker.
The idea is that nothing - "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING"
is to be important in your life before your Maker,
nothing.
So detachment is a condition you should practice.
Try it. You will find it most refreshing. One of the first
things you will notice is a lifting of burdens, a lifting
of a heavy feeling within you.
I know you love your wife/husband, your kids, your house,
your car. I know your job is so important to you that you
will aggressively fight to keep it. Yet, if you would have
the abundance your Maker wants for you then you must
let go of these things.
That does not mean you give them away. It means you
treat them in exactly the way each should be treated,
but as if none of them were yours. Detach. Remember,
they are to be yours, rather than you belonging to them.
The moment you have an attachment to things in this
earth is the moment you have placed something
between you and your Maker. Yet it is your Maker that
makes it possible for you to have everything.
We can enjoy things without the need to "possess" them.
I am reminded of the statement here of a "Guy chases a
girl until she catches him." That is what happens when
we pursue material goods. We chase them until they
own us. That forfeits your opportunity to have a real
relationship with your Maker.
I hear some of you saying "But I have responsibilities!"
Sure you do and it is simply amazing how much better
you can fulfill those responsibilities when you give
them up in favor of a relationship with your Maker.
Please don't misunderstand here. This is not a religious
topic. This has nothing to do with any church or any
religion. It has to do with the bountiful abundance you
can have when you, and you alone, put your Maker,
inside you, first in your life.
It does not require your attendance at any place at
any time. It does not require you pay money for any
participation, or dress a certain way or repeat mantras
or perform in any "holy" way. It means only that the
most important thing in your life and the first thing in
your life is your Maker, inside you. From there you will
know what to do, where to go, how to do things and
look out for the abundance that will be visited upon you.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity

PART 15 of 31
Respiratory Infections Mealys evaluation of a number
of studies on respiratory infections suggests that the
oral cavity acts as a reservoir for bacteria that can
find its way into the lungs. These studies indicate
that mouth and throat bacterial colonization precedes
bacterial respiratory infection. While no current
studies specifically demonstrate a direct correlation,
there is strong evidence that one exists.
There is also evidence that the gum pocket may be the
source of the respiratory bacteria. A number of
bacterial organisms believed to be common in infected
gum pockets have been found in bacterial pneumonia. In
one study, researchers isolated a number of bacterial
species from a case report of pneumonia. Upon clinical
examination, the authors only significant finding was
marked periodontitis, indicating that the bacteria
originated in the gum pocket.
Another important study found that the substances that
initiate respiratory infections most often originate
from the periodontal pocket. The study showed that
these organisms can produce respiratory diseases, such
as pulmonary abscesses, resulting in a significant
disease and even death.
Osteoporosis Researchers at the University of Buffalo,
led by Jean Wactawski-Wende, reported that most people
diagnosed with periodontal disease may be at a higher
risk of underlying osteoporosis. This study, conducted
in 1995 and published in the Journal of Periodontology,
is the first large-scale assessment of the relationship
between bone metabolism and oral health. The authors
reported that if the relationship remains strong in
further studies, it is possible that a routine dental
X-ray could be used to screen for bone loss. In
addition, dentists could provide education and
treatment for gum disease that could combat oral bone
and tooth loss and possibly reduce the extent of
osteporosis.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

Soon Riata arrived. She had a smile on her face and a
song in her heart. "Hello, everybody. How is everyone
today?"
"Hello, Riata," came the chorus from the group. "Come,
sit and bring us up to date with your life."
"Oh, there isn't much to tell. I've just been working."
"Riata, you are the most modest person I know," said
Eloise. "The work you do is so important and critical it
cannot be overemphasized. Yet you do it so casually and
successfully. I admire you."
"From you, Missy, that is a high compliment. I thank
you."
"You are welcome. Did you know we also invited Oomano,
Romano and your Mom and Dad here?" asked Eloise.
"No. That would be nice. I imagine Oo and Romano will
bring Juanita with them."
"Gee! I hope so. I forgot about Juanita. She is most
welcome."
"That's good because we brought her. Hi, everybody. Good
to see you all again." Romano, Oomano, the kids and Juanita
had arrived. They were made welcome and asked to sit in the
circle.
Next came Abetta and Miguele. They sat next to Eloise.
They had a soft spot in their heart for her. She was the one
who clearly turned their lives around and they always wanted
to be near her.
Mazunta let Eloise know he was leaving, and left to
speak to some members of the village. They would prepare a
special fire tonight for the visitors. In this village it
was the community fire at night that seemed like the bonding
agent for keeping the village all together.
"Missy Mae," spoke Abetta, "you are not the same woman
who was not so sure she wanted to come to this village those
many years ago. Now I'm thinking you don't want to go home."
"You're right, Abetta. Isn't it funny how life changes.
When one goes inside to communicate with their Maker, then
all things work out better than one could hope. It's
wonderful and I never stop being amazed. Oh, I wish everyone
would see and learn."
"Amen to that," said Ben. "They are particularly stiff
necked in the States and anywhere money is their God."
"I'll amen that one, Ben." said Sam.
"Well, most respond according to need. Only some see the
way is through establishing communication with their Maker.
The rest suffer under the illusion they need money. Even
those in this village who do not live by higher law worry
not over money. Man becomes embroiled in what is going on
around him and hardly ever raises his head to see beyond."
"I'll bet that attitude came right out of police work,
Ben."
"It is true there too, Sam. But it is particularly true
with higher law. Everyone is scrapping on the beach for
whatever tidbits they can grab. None are Jonathans." Ben was
referring to the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
"It seems a person has to get very far down before they
are willing to seek the help of their Maker, inside. Most go
to a church and think prayer there, according to the way the
church has taught, will solve their problems. When it fails
they do not understand and continue to follow along,
blindly. Only very few find the right way."
"I know, Sam. I was one of them. I thought I was right.
I was helping people and upholding the law, but it was the
law of man. Now I uphold the laws of my Maker. I want to do
this. I wish I had learned 30 years before I finally crossed
the veil of simplicity."
"We all do, Ben. That is the way of man. Do not kick
yourself. You were not ready 30 years ago. You were only
ready when you made the decision to commit. That is when
things began to happen for you. I am likewise. It took
Eloise and David to come down here on that crazy journey to
finally show me the way. If Eloise had not done that we
would all be sitting up in Pinehill doing the same old, same
old."
"True, Sam. That's the way of it and I guess it is like
that all over the world. Man is no different in any land. He
reacts the same to life wherever he is."
Mazunta returned and took up his seat. The grandchildren
came up from the beach and sat beside their Grandma and
Grandpa. The circle was getting larger as the day went on.
"You know, folks, I think it is time we had a bite to
eat. Do you know it is near suppertime?"
They had all been so engrossed in conversation they had
all forgotten about eating.
In a flash there were palm leaves in front of everyone
and a wide assortment of foods was placed on the palm
leaves. There was plenty for everyone.
"I sure like the way you girls cook." Sam made the
remark with a smirk on his face.
"My wife, she cook like this all the time." Mazunta was
laying it on thick. Then he moved to avoid the slap he knew
was coming.
"Maaaazzzz!" Eloise got her slap in and it made a
resounding sound.
Maz feigned pain. Everyone laughed. Their kids loved it.
"Thatta girl, Mom. Get him good!"

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Larboard: What is the origin of the term "larboard"?
"Larboard" is from the Old English lade-bord, meaning
"loading side:. Since the steering oar of early sailing
vessels was on the starboard side, the opposite side was
brought up to the docks for loading.

"The key to change...is to let go of fear." -- Rosanne

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
An old priest was dying. He sent a messenger for his IRS
agent and his Lawyer to come to his home. When they arrived,
they were ushered into his bedroom. As they entered the
room, the priest held out his hand and motioned for them to
sit on each side of his bed. The priest clasped their hands,
sighed contentedly, smiled and stared at the ceiling. For a
while no one said anything.
Both the IRS agent and the Lawyer were touched and flattered
that the old priest would ask them to be with him during his
final moment. They were also puzzled because the priest had
never given any indication that he particularly liked either
one of them.
Finally the Lawyer asked, "Father, why did you ask the two
of us to come?"
The old priest mustered up some strength, then said weakly,
"Jesus died between two thieves, and that's how I want to
go.
