How long does it take to get caffeine out of your system?

Caffeine has a half-life of about 4-5 hours. This means it
takes approximately 5 hours to get rid of half the dose. The
amount of caffeine you get in a drink varies depending on a
number of factors, including the type of coffee bean, how
big the cup is, and the type of beverage (tea, coffee,
soda). It could take about 10 hours, most of the day, for
you to get all the caffeine out of your system. And if you
drink the stuff all day, like me, then I guess caffeine
pretty much becomes an active PART of your system!

What is a "googol"?

Googol is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The word was
coined by nine-year-old Milton Sirotta, nephew of
mathematician Edward Kasner, in 1938.

Tips And Tidbits

WHY FEATURES DON'T MATTER ANYMORE:
THE NEW LAWS OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

by Andreas Pfeiffer, principal of Pfeiffer Consulting, an
independent technology research institute and consulting
operation focused on the needs of publishing, digital
content production, and new media professionals.

Technology Trends

The iPod was never sold on the grounds of its technical
merits: Apple hit a gold-mine by marketing a cool new way of
integrating music in your life. Even when Apple announced
the iPod with video, it presented it not as the best
multi-media player in the universe, but as a cool new way of
watching "Desperate Housewives" and other TV shows.

In the seemingly never-ending debate about Apple's
successes, announcements, new products and
predicted-but-unannounced über-gadgets, features and
technical specifications often seem to dominate the debate.
Yet if there's one lesson to be learned from the company's
recent successes, it is a very simple one: features don't
matter any more.

Welcome to the Age of User Experience.

One key aspect of modern digital devices is that technical
specifications are easily copied and replicated: mega-pixel
count in cameras, storage capacity in music players or
processor speed in personal computers are the same
everywhere. As a result, they provide only poor
distinguishing factors for consumers when it comes to
choosing between different brands.

That's where the overall user experience comes in. As
computing and digital devices move more and more into the
consumer space, features and functionalities will
increasingly take the back-seat as motivators for technology
adoption: as the iPod abundantly shows, user experience
(along with a strong brand, and clever marketing) is much
more important for the success of a device then technical
specifications. Web designers have grasped the importance of
good user experience a long time ago; now it is time the big
technology providers to understand where the industry is
headed.

10 fundamental rules for the age of user experience
technology: 1) More features isn't better, it's worse.

Feature overload is becoming a real issue. The last thing a
customer wants is confusion-and what's more confusing than
comparing technical specifications, unless you are en
expert? Only nerds get a kick out of reading feature lists.
(I know - I'm one of them.)

2) You can't make things easier by adding to them.

Simplicity means getting something done in a minimum number
of simple steps. Practically anything could be simpler - but
you don't get there by adding features.

3) Confusion is the ultimate deal-breaker.

Confuse a customer, and you lose him. And nothing confuses
more easily than complex features and unintuitive
functionalities.

4) Style matters

Despite what nerds may think, style isn't fluff. On the
grand scale of things, style is as important as features-if
not more so. Style and elegance can contribute significantly
to a good user experience. But style isn't just looks, it's
a global approach. Fancy packaging isn't enough.

5) Only features that provide a good user experience will be
used.

Why did the iPod catch on? Because it was so
self-explanatory, and it remains the market leader in terms
user experience. Sure, it may be excruciatingly difficult to
make devices like digital media players or computers easy to
use; but if a product is complex, intimidating or confusing,
its chances for success are minimal.

6) Any feature that requires learning will only be adopted
by a small fraction of users.

Learning new features, even the ones that a user might find
interesting or intriguing, is a real issue: nobody has time.
Getting consumers to upgrade and adopt new features is one
of the biggest problems software publishers face these days.

7) Unused features are not only useless, they can slow you
down and diminish ease of use.

Over time products become convoluted and increasingly
complex to use. The frustration of not finding the one
feature you need among a flurry of stuff you don't need,
want or even understand, can be considerable. (Ever heard of
program called Word?)

8) Users do not want to think about technology: what really
counts is what it does for them.

The best tool is the one you don't notice. Why do you think
pen and paper remain vastly popular for brainstorming?
Because you don't have to think about them. Pencils don't
crash.

9) Forget about the killer feature. Welcome to the age of
the killer user-experience.

When technology achieves something desirable without being
in your face, when it know how to integrate itself into you
wishes and desires without distracting from them, that's
when technology lives up to its potential. Unfortunately
it's not that simple to get there.

10) Less is difficult, that's why less is more

Let's face it: it's usually harder to do simple things
exceedingly well, than to just pile up features. The 80/20
rule applies here too: do well what 80 percent of your users
do all the time, and you create a good user experience.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 17 of 31

In another important study, researchers collected
dietary intake data about the food and nutrient intake
of 49,501 male health professionals. The results showed
that toothless participants consumed fewer vegetables
and less fiber and carotene, and had higher
cholesterol, saturated fat, and calories than
participants with 25 or more teeth. They concluded that
these factors could increase the risks of cancer and
cardiovascular disease.

I would again like to point out that the vast majority
of tooth loss is caused by dental disease, either decay
or periodontal disease. It is true that once the teeth
have been removed, periodontal disease, and its
resultant infection, will be eliminated. But as the
above studies point out, the problems facing edentulous
individuals do not end with the elimination of
periodontal infection. In fact, they face an entirely
new set of health problems.

Immune System Health professionals understand that
infection stresses the immune system. It is also
obvious that the more serious the infection and the
longer it persists, the more the immune system is
affected. At some point, the immune system can become
so compromised that its ability to resist additional
infections and diseases could be seriously diminished.
This weakness could put the various body systems at
risk and create a domino effect in regard to diseases
and infections.

We also know that when the immune system is compromised
any health problem directly or indirectly related to it
will be negatively affected. It is obvious that dental
infections, especially periodontal disease, periapical
abscesses and cavitations, have a deleterious affect on
the immune system and would jeopardize the successful
treatment of any medical treatment for any immune
related disease.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

Romano was young enough he really enjoyed playing ball
with the kids. He was an enthusiastic player, while being
sensitive enough to let the smaller ones play. That is the
way the kids of the village played, too.

They picked teams, rather loosely. Because it was felt
Romano was worth four or five players his team was smaller
than the other team.

He didn't mind that. He loved it. It gave him a greater
challenge, that is to say, until he really found out what
the kids were up to.

In their own way, they had conned him into thinking he
was good at the game. Once he had the ball he thought he
would get away from the kids and get a score.

Little did he know they were waiting for him. When he
got the ball, they surrounded him. He couldn't go anywhere.
He tried several times but when he tried to back out of the
circle the kids wouldn't let him. They held their ground and
he would have had to push them over. These little guys were
tough.

Finally, the kids moved the circle in. Romano had
nowhere to go and they were getting closer. He couldn't even
pass the ball to his team mates.

He was impressed with the kids. They had thought this
through or they had done it before. They had him pinned.
He backed into one of them and tried, with his arms, to
move the kid. The kid did move, but not the way Romano
thought.

Romano felt the boy's back move away from him. He
thought he finally had a clear path. All that happened was
the boy bent over, allowing Romano's arm to move as if the
boy had moved. The boy actually just knelt down right where
he was. Romano didn't see it. He was too busy with the
others closing in.

Before he knew it he was flat on his back. The boy had
knelt down and Romano had tripped over him. Once they had
him on the ground they pounced on him. Then the ball game
turned to a wrestling match.

Romano was laughing from having been played the fool. He
knew the kids knew what they were up to. They were pummeling
him and holding him down, tiring him out. The whole thing
was planned.

Even his team mates got into the pile once he was down.
"These clever little monkeys," he thought. "I'll get
them."

He moved, suddenly. He was nearly up and away from them
before they pulled him down again. It was clear they figured
they had him. But Romano had a few tricks up his sleeve,
too. He waited for his moment. Just when the kids began to
relax a little, having the thought they had won, he was up
and out of the pile like a gazelle from the jaws of a lion.

Moreover, he had the ball. It wasn't that he had kept
it. The ball had popped out from the middle of the group.

Romano was nearly to the goal line when he felt weights
around his ankles. He tripped again and was this time flat
on his stomach. "Those kids tackled me!" he thought. The
kids were laughing. That they caught him was great. Now they
had the ball. They took it to the other end and scored.

Romano had to do something different if his team was
going to win against this crowd. Yet, what Romano didn't
know is that the kids play this game all day everyday. At
their experience level they knew every trick that could be
played.

In spite of his age and strength, Romano was the
disadvantaged one in this game. After the first pile up he
learned that very well. By the time the second one hit him
he knew he was outplayed. He loved it. That the kids had
fooled him and played him as the mark was something that
tickled Romano's funny bone. He laughed and played with them
for a long while.

Yet, the sun went down and the game had to come to an
end. It was fun while it lasted, but it was clear the kids
had his number.

The sky was black and loaded with stars. The evening was
warm and there was a sliver of a moon just beginning to
show. None of this would last long. There were heavy clouds
in the west. Romano knew Boolanga and Mazunta had arranged
for a dry evening.

The rains hit. Lightning struck, Thunder roared. That
is, everywhere but at the village. It was funny to watch.
The rains came up the beach and then stopped as if they had
hit a fence. Same on the sides. That is the work of Mazunta
and Boolanga. They wanted the common to remain dry for the
evening fire, so they steered this storm away.

The fire was well underway by the time Romano and the
kids arrived. The adults were enjoying themselves. None,
ever got drunk at an affair like this, except on
friendship. These fires drew everyone close and all
friendships were appreciated.

In that way the village kids learned of the big world
outside the village. Only a few of these kids had been asked
on the helping trips. When they were, they joined in
eagerly. Some had been to Africa. Others to India and still
others to Europe.

When the kids returned they always had stories to tell.
These kids were far more mature than kids in other villages.
These kids had been taken on a trip with Mr. Sam Henry.

That trip proved to be most fascinating. That is when
Sam placed them in circumstances that forced them to decide
on higher law. Sam knew what he was doing. Upon their return
the kids had all crossed the veil of simplicity.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Lavender: Why was the flower known as "lavender" given that
name?

It was once the custom, now, unfortunately, no longer
followed, for laundresses to place a sprig of this plant in
with the laundry they had cleaned in order to scent it. The
Italian word for washing is lavanda.

HA! HA! HA!

Dear Spike,

I have been unable to sleep since I forced my daughter to
break off her engagement to you. Will you forgive and
forget?

I was much too sensitive about your Mohawk, tattoo, and
pierced nose. I now realize motorcycles aren't really that
dangerous, and I really should not have reacted the way I
did to the fact that you have never held a job.

I am sure, too, that some other very nice people live under
the bridge in the park.

Sure, my daughter is only 17 and wants to marry you instead
of going to Harvard on a full ride scholarship. After all,
you can't learn everything about life from books. I
sometimes forget how backward I can be. I was wrong. I was a
fool. I have now come to my senses, and you have my full
blessing to marry my daughter.

Sincerely,

Your future father-in-law

P. S. Congratulations on winning the Powerball lottery!
