I've found many four-leaf clovers. They don't seem so rare
to me.

They really aren't incredibly rare anymore. In the 1950s, a
seed that sprouts ONLY four-leaf clovers was developed. Now,
you can find four-leaf clovers fairly easily. Hey, the best
kind of luck is the kind you make for yourself!

How is the four-leaf clover associated with the Biblical
Eve?

Legend has it that as Eve was forced to depart the Garden of
Eden, she grabbed a handful of four-leaf clovers to later
give to her children.

North Korea nuclear talks on hold
POSTED: 1502 GMT (2302 HKT), March 22, 2007

BEIJING, China (AP) -- International talks on North Korea's
nuclear ambitions broke down Thursday over a financial
dispute, a twist that could imperil a fragile disarmament
process.

Negotiators from the two Koreas, the United States, Japan,
Russia and host China met Monday with the aim of fine-tuning
ways to implement a hard-fought February 13 agreement under
which the North would ultimately fully disclose and
dismantle all its nuclear programs.

The deal had touched off cautious optimism that progress
could be made, but this week's talks never got off the
ground because of a drawn out dispute over the transfer of
North Korean funds that had been frozen in Banco Delta Asia,
a lender in the Chinese territory of Macau.

Full six-nation discussions stopped for two days when the
North Korea refused to participate until all of the $25
million was released. The other envoys became impatient and
on Thursday, China issued a statement saying they would take
a recess, but did not give a restart date.

"The problem has been that the North Koreans said they must
have this BDA matter finalized before they move forward on
the other issues and that sort of sequential approach slowed
us down," Christopher Hill, the chief American envoy, said.

"This round of talks started with the BDA problem and ended
with the BDA problem," Kenichiro Sasae, his Japanese
counterpart, said in a separate briefing.

Even before China officially called a recess, chief North
Korean negotiator Kim Kye Gwan had flown out of Beijing,
upset that the funds remained stuck at the Macau bank.

Nicholas Eberstadt of the American Enterprise Institute, a
Washington think tank, said the stalemate could have been
predicted as Pyongyang was following its usual tactic of
committing, then pulling back.

"This is what they do, and no one should be surprised,"
Eberstadt said in a telephone interview. "It's absolutely
business as usual. They don't play until you pay. Then they
will return to discussions to find out what they can get at
the next round."

The money was the focus of a U.S. investigation into money
laundering and counterfeiting and frozen by the Macau bank,
but Washington agreed earlier this week to a North Korean
proposal that would see the funds released and transferred
to a Bank of China account in Beijing.

Officials, however, said the release was held up by the
Chinese bank's concerns about accepting money that had been
linked to counterfeiting and money laundering. Adding to the
confusion, the Bank of China denied it was told to accept
the money.

"Up until now, we were not asked to deal with this
business," Li Lihui, the bank's vice chairman and president,
said Thursday while announcing the bank's 2006 earnings in
Hong Kong.

Russian envoy Alexander Losyukov, who also left for home
Thursday, was quoted by ITAR-Tass news agency as saying "the
whole problem came from the American side."

He said the United States failed to assure the Chinese side
that the Bank of China could receive the funds without fear
of U.S. sanctions or discrimination by the banking community
and the U.S. government.

U.S. banks were required to cut links with Banco Delta Asia
as a result of the Treasury investigation. The North
boycotted the international nuclear talks for more than a
year over the issue.

Although negotiations had been sidetracked, Hill said he was
still optimistic that timelines set up in the February
agreement could still be met.

"It is our strong view that we are still on schedule to meet
all the 60-day requirements," Hill said, referring to an
April 14 deadline that calls for U.N. inspectors to verify
the closure of North Korea's main nuclear reactor at
Yongbyon.

Hill added he still expected other goals requiring Pyongyang
to declare all of its nuclear programs and for fuel and
economic assistance to be sent to North Korea to be met by
the end of the year.

Wu Dawei, China's representative to the six-nation talks,
also remained upbeat despite "very serious difficulties."

"No matter the difficulties we face in the talks, no matter
how hard, we have the capability to overcome them," Wu said
at a press conference.

Personal Infection Control
Making Sure You Are Healthy Enough
To Withstand Unhealthy Conditions
PART 6 of 9

Once the microorganisms find their way OUT of your body, they
need to find their way TO the next host. This is called the
"METHOD OF TRANSMISSION": (Not into: just TO.)

"Modes of transmission" can be through direct and indirect
methods. Direct methods are touch and contact of the host's
microorganism directly to the new host. An example would be a
kiss.

Examples of indirect "sharing" are door handles or sharing of
food or toothbrushes, or any utensils that go from one person's
mouth to another. Water-borne is another method of spreading as
in protozoan infections.

Something of interest is that these microorganisms don't have
wings to fly to their new host. They have to be carried along on
something, often on dust particles that float on air currents.
So you can see that this will be an indirect way of sharing
microorganisms. The cycle is completed when the microorganisms
find another (inviting) HOST.

The entry point to the new host could be the cut on the lip or
the break in the mucous membrane of the nose or mouth. But
again, as with the numbers (bioburden), there have to be enough
to weaken the new host. And that host has to be vulnerable or
have a weakened immune system, so the bug can get a foothold.

I think it would be helpful to illustrate this with Tom
(original host), Fred (new host), and Mo (the microorganism).
I'll add the cycle parts in brackets. From what you already know
you will be able to spot places where you now know you can take
control and break this cycle. I'll use bacteria for my example
but understand that the course of action is pretty much the same
for all groups of microorganisms.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

And The Lesson Today Is

I find myself continually dismayed at the scene in North
Korea. Here you have a country that is incapable of waging
any kind of war with meaning or purpose and that has
mismanaged its affairs so badly it has been getting hand
outs from other countries for years - demanding, demanding,
demanding.

They have virtually no GNP, no safe drinking water and no
intent to distribute fairly any aid it does get. Yet this
country has the entire world in its grip.

You know what the lesson to the world is? If you have
nuclear weapons you can demand and get anything you want.

That message is not lost on Iran, or any other country. It
is for sure this will end up bad someplace. It is still not
beyond North Korea to do anything it wants even after it has
been given all it demands for it knows that the next time it
wants an increase from any or everyone all it needs do is
restart its nuclear program.

Why are the world’s nations going for this kind of tripe.
The kid needs a damn good spanking.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Dandelion: How did the "dandelion" get its name?

It comes from the jagged edges of its leaves - which were
supposed to look like a lion's teeth. The French form is
dent de lion - that is, "tooth of the lion".

The Milk Bath

This blonde heard that milk baths would make her beautiful.

She left a note for her milkman to leave 15 gallons of milk.

When the milkman read the note he felt there must be a
mistake.

He thought she probably meant 1.5 gallons, so he knocked on
the door to clarify the point.

The blonde came to the door and the milkman said, "I found
your note to leave 15 gallons of milk.
Did you mean 1.5 gallons?"

The blonde said, "I want 15 gallons. I'm going to fill my
bathtub up with milk and take a milk bath."

The milkman asked, "Pasteurized?"

The blonde said, "No, just up to my shoulders."
