Is there a coldest possible temperature?

What does it mean to be ambidextrous?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can you get frostbite in temperatures above freezing?

If ambient temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit,
you're safe from frostbite. It doesn't matter HOW bad the
wind chill is or how cold it feels. But if it's BELOW 32
degrees Fahrenheit, you are vulnerable to frostbite and
freezing to death even if there's absolutely no wind. So
bundle up.

Do Eskimos have bodies that make them more able to withstand
cold?

Evolution is a wonderful thing. It gives people and animals
just the kinds of bodies they need to live well in their
environments. Eskimos are able to survive cold Arctic
weather because they've adapted to it. For one, their bodies
tend to be short and squat, which means their limbs are
closer to their hearts (nice, warm blood) and their torsos
are more padded. They also have a slightly higher
metabolism, which enables them to burn food faster to stay
warm. Finally, their veins and arteries are arranged in a
way that helps more warming blood to get to their hands and
fingers.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

In 1890 Scott Paper produced the first toilet paper to be
available on a roll.

Is Your Perspective Different?

Two young country lads were bored one summer day
and decided it would be fun to push over the outhouse.
They snuck up like a couple of spys, pushed it over,
then ran laughing into the woods. When they returned
home later, their father called them over. "Did you two
push over the outhouse this afternoon?" he
demanded. The older boy nodded. "I learned in
school that I cannot tell a lie. Yes, father, we did
push over the outhouse."

Their father whipped them and sent them to bed
without supper. In the morning, he asked them,
"Have you two learned your lesson?"

"Yes, father," the older boy said, looking confused.
"But in school we learned that George Washington
admitted to his father that he had chopped down a
cherry tree and he was forgiven because he told the
truth!"

Their father nodded. "That's true. But George's
father wasn't IN the cherry tree when he chopped
it down!"

I imagine that perspective might have a bearing on how
one would react. It seems perfectly logical to me Dad would
be upset, and that he would be not nearly so upset had
he not been in the outhouse.

That kind of thing happens to us all the time in daily life.
Our perspective, our point of view is always that spot from
which our mind is currently set. For example if your child
comes up to you and wants you to play with them, and
everything is all right with you, then you may decline
politely, or even go play with them. However, if you are
already angry because you just had a rip snortin' fight
with your spouse or significant other, you are more prone
to telling the child to go get lost, and that in an angry tone.

So, you see, your perspective affects how you react to
certain circumstances.

Guess what? It affects the way others react to you as well.
Others will react to you according to two things: first,
according to their own perspective and, second, according
to how you react to them. Think on that.

Is it any wonder folks have trouble getting along? And then
we throw into the mix certain attitudes toward ethnic groups
and toward religious groups and toward other groups. Now
tell me how it is that we can get along at all.

I often suggest to my kids it is far better to have a chosen,
standard perspective through which to view the world, one
that you don't permit emotion to influence. I recommend
they adopt a businesslike attitude toward all, equally, and
without emotion at any point or time. I suggest they remain
calm in all circumstances and that they keep their eye on
the ball, meaning that they choose what outcome they want
before they begin and keep pressing in that direction.

Because emotion can lead one down the garden path I
recommend they learn to put it aside when dealing with
others, that they can deal with emotion inside themselves
at another time when it is less likely to affect outcomes.
That way they can be and remain in charge of their lives.
They can be responsible for what happens to them and
around them, and they can guide circumstances to their
pleasure.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson

The Ins And Outs of Breathing
Every breath you take is vital to your survival
(This is not just discussion of the obvious - look!)
PART 1 of 10

It's summer time and the air is filled with beautiful scents of
flowers, freshly cut grass, and life is pretty perfect...or is
it? You will learn how a healthy lung "works", and relevant
information about this part of the aging process. You will learn
about your body's natural protective measures and how it handles
anything it doesn't want in there. The more you feel comfortable
with some basic "mechanical activities" of your lungs, the less
you will fear allergies or pollens or chemical smells. And the
more you will be inclined to take care of your body. You might
find it easier to understand all this if you think of your
respiratory system as a strong tree with its branch formation
and leaves on the branches. The important thing to remember then
is just as the trees' branches get smaller and smaller, so do
the "tunnels" or pathways of your lungs. As usual, this
information is solely for educational purposes and not to be
used to treat yourself. Please visit your doctor if you need
help with any respiratory problems.

Your ultimate goal should be to enjoy a free-flowing,
unobstructed pathway, with no partial or full blockages...and
LOADS OF ENERGY!!

My goal is for you to understand how your body protects you and
how you can protect it. No one can stop the aging process, so
its effects will be mentioned. Even taking those into
consideration, you should be able to enjoy a smooth ride for a
long and healthy life.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Man Does It To Himself - Again

I find the recent finding that consumption, by pregnant
women, of beef fed on growth products is the cause of male
infertility not surprising.

It seems that beef fed on growth products, ground up animal
parts - cannibalism, are a no no for expectant mothers.
Studies have shown male sperm levels to be sub-fertility if
their mothers consumed a lot of beef while they were
carrying the child.

While males do not produce sperm until puberty their
capacity to produce sperm is developed while they are yet a
youth.

Funny, isn’t it, how eating your own kind turns on you. It
is an unhealthy practice wherever you see it and should be
looked upon in the same way incest is looked upon. Incest,
of course, producing malformed and mentally handicapped
children.

Yet, the large companies who produce these “magic” growth
products have sold us a bill of goods. Their concern is the
making of money, not any caring about farmer’s profits.

When a cow does not eat its own kind naturally, then the
force feeding of ground up animal parts is clearly wrong for
its diet. That holds true for all animals, even man. Now we
are finding that may well have caused infertility in
thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of males.

For many years now I have had the notion that our eating
practices are wrong. The mass consumption of manufactured
food, in my opinion, is what has led to the obesity problem,
general poor health, and again, in my opinion, most if not
all of man’s cancers.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Gandy Dancers: What is the reason the men who pump a
railroad handcar are called "gandy dancers"?

The men who pump a railroad handcar are usually four in
number and they stand in positions similar to the two
couples of a square dance. Their deep knee-bending as they
work the car suggests such a dance performed by geese - or
more exactly, "ganders".

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

- Will the real dummy please stand up?

AT&T fired President John Walter after nine months,
saying he lacked intellectual leadership." He received
a $26 million severance package. Perhaps it's not Walter
who's lacking intelligence...

- With a little help from our friends!

Police in Oakland, California spent two hours attempting to
subdue a gunman who had barricaded himself inside his home.
After firing ten tear gas canisters, officers discovered that
the man was standing beside them, shouting, "Please come out
and give yourself up!!"

- What was plan B?

An Illinois man pretending to have a gun kidnapped a motorist
and forced him to drive to two different automated teller
machines. The kidnapper then proceeded to withdraw money
from his *own* bank accounts!
