How come the Inuit don't get sick when they get so few
fruits and vegetables?

You'd think that anyone living in the Arctic would suffer
from scurvy or rickets, caused by a lack of vitamin C and
other vitamins. But the Inuit do not get scurvy and rickets.
Despite the lack of fresh fruit and veggies, the Inuit get
plenty of vitamin C and other vitamins from their diet. When
they kill an animal for food, they eat ALL of the animal,
including the organs, which are rich in vitamins A and C.
They also ingest plenty of vitamin-rich fish oils.


Do Inuits really live in igloos?

Depends on what you think an igloo is. While most of us
have long associated "Eskimos" with houses made of
blocks of ice, few Inuit have ever actually lived in one. "Igloo"
is the Inuit word for "house," and they live in all kinds of
houses, including quite ordinary houses similar to ours or
in underground sod houses or tents made from animal
skins. They even have heating systems that keep them
warm!

Search Engines Going Loco for Local...But
When Will Small Business Get Real?

Here?s a subject that?s generated lots of interest lately.

Let?s review:

Google Goes Local

The search engine giant recently released Google Local,
which it had been beta testing since Oct. 2003. Users enter
geographic search terms, such as zip code or city name,
and get results with physical street address and phone
number, along with a MapQuest map and related links.
You can also vary the radius of the search, from 1 to
45 miles.

Right now it's free, but you can expect to see paid
AdWords in the future. The company plans to include
international markets in the coming months.

Yahoo! Launches SmartView

Yahoo! launched SmartView in March, which is integrated
with Yahoo! Maps and provides information on nearby
businesses such as restaurants, hotels, discount stores.
It does this by SmartView looking at your destination, then
offering what it thinks you might be interested in once
you get there.

Other categories are available in case SmartView guesses
wrong, so if you?d rather shop than eat, click on ?
Shopping & Services? for a list of options. Choose Malls?
and you get a map with icons that represent nearby
shopping areas. Pass your cursor over the icon and
information pops up. It's a great user interface, but not
entirely intuitive. Instead of the map being the end point
for a search, it?s the beginning.

SmartView already displays sponsored links by Overture,
which of course is owned by Yahoo! Industry experts say
that SmartView is only one piece of Yahoo!'s local search
strategy, which it will try to aggregate in a number of

Verizon's SuperPages.com

Verizon recently overhauled and re-launched its
SuperPages.com and became the first online directory to
offer PPC advertising to national and local businesses.
This allows small businesses to target consumers in a
geographic region, and pay only when visitors click
through to their site. Verizon will continue to offer fixed
price ad placements for advertisers who don't want to
manage PPC campaigns. Search results are provided
through an agreement with FindWhat.com

CitySearch

CitySearch is a local search veteran, having provided
information about U.S. cities since 1996. The site primarily
focuses on area attractions, restaurants, shopping,
event listings, and recreation, though you can find
any type of local business overall. Material is gathered
through partnerships with other companies, such
as yellow pages. Citysearch crawls the web for
additional information and adds in events data. In
June 2003, they launched their Cost-Per-Lead program,
which allows their 25,000 advertisers to decide how
many leads they want and how much they want to
spend.

AOL & MapQuest Embrace Local Search

AOL?s ?In Your Area" local search function lets members
search for business listings, entertainment and events
near their location indicated by zip code. Almost half
of AOL members who logon every month search for
local content.

owned MapQuest.com recently started beta testing
their local search engine, MQSearch. MapQuest's
26 million monthly users can search for local
businesses by name or category, plus city/state
or ZIP.

Results are returned with business name, address
and phone, each linked to a MapQuest map and
estimated driving distance. MQSearch results can
be sorted alphabetically or by distance, and the
search radius can be expanded from 25 to 50 miles.

These are just the big ones, there are others, and
they are all jockeying for position in the local search
race. In addition to search engines, there are
specialty local oriented sites such as
www.topix.net, www.vivante.com, and
www.mobilemaps.com.

All the interest in local search is in direct response
to a very real demand for local information online.
People like to find and buy things in their neighborhood,
and more consumers are turning to the Net rather
than lift the 20-pound Yellow Pages. According to
The Kelsey Group, the local search-based
advertising market is expected to be worth
$2.5 billion by 2008.

Of course the only question remains: when will small
local businesses join the party? Attempts to crack
open the local market over the last few years have
been less than successful. Apparently small business
owners remember all too well the lessons learned
a few years ago, when all the hype over getting online
left them with lighter pockets and little benefits. Most
seem to be taking a wait and see attitude.

In the meantime, savvy business owners who have
embraced the Internet are finding little competition for
local keywords. These early adopters will be ahead
of the pack, and it will be that much harder for the
competition to catch up.

Understanding It And Offering Some Support.

Everyone is on edge and feelings are raw. While the
client has to go through the actual illness, and tries to
find ways to cope with these problems, the rest of the
family becomes frustrated and angry. In many cases,
the client expects the other to accept the mood swings
as normal and a right, which I think is unreasonable.

The term chronic implies something for a long time or
without any letup of demands There may be little hope
for improvement and that in itself requires some strong
outside support. Often there is little sharing of the care
load…for a number of reasons. People often avoid sick
people: consequently there are few volunteers to help.
There is also additional workload from all the previous
responsibilities, so fear, anxiety, and anger are present,
but often hidden. This is a very difficult time of adjustment
for the caregiver. And the rest of the family. Few of us are
equipped to handle more than our own chosen load,
let alone assume another's responsibilities, and then
be cheerful and tolerant. The one person who APPEARS
to be strong and caring will assume this role.

One of the most common situations arises in the elderly
couple where one has the start of Dementia. The spouse
may or may not seek help. If they do, the rest of the family
often denies the problem: they refuse to consider the
possibility. This caregiver then has an additional guilt load.
They will subsequently isolate themselves even more.
Often the sad end to this is the death of the caregiver
from their own medical problems.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures

The audience watched as the couple danced. The
site was a beautiful one where two people in love
were moving in rhythm with each other. They were
united.

The party lasted all afternoon, with plenty of food and
drink available. The kids from the orphanage
continued their change of shifts, every four hours.
They did this without noise or notice.

Then, across the group, something strange happened.
It was noticed by Maria Sanchez first.

She had wanted to go get some food, from the table.
On the way she had to pass through the area where
folks were dancing. But the dancers did not see her
and some were coming right toward her. So as not to
trip either herself or anyone else, Maria stepped back
a couple of paces. As she did, she immediately
noticed a roof support pole right in front of her face.

It surprised her. How did that get there? The more she
questioned, within her own mind, the more it was
impressed upon her she had just stepped through it.
She couldn't believe it. She questioned again. She
continued to get the same answer.

Maria stepped back one pace, and looked at the pole.
Something inside her told her to pass her hand through
the pole. She argued. The instructions came back
"Do it." There was no room for discussion.

She reached out her arm and swung, fully expecting
to pass right through the pole. Her conscious mind
was telling her she was crazy. Then, to her surprise,
her arm passed right through the pole. She tried it
again, then again. Each time it worked.

"I told you all impediments to your progress were
removed this day." came words into her head.

Maria remembered. "Look! LOOK! Look what I can do."
she hollered.

It caught everyone's attention. Maria swung her arm
one more time.

Sam, Eloise, Mazunta, Alewka, Boolanga, Romano,
Oomano, David, Sien, Ben, Sonora, Sandra, Riata,
Reno, Amenti, all present who lived by higher law,
smiled deeply. They knew what had happened,
and were pleased.

Maria swung again. The results were the same. Yet
when she moved to the pole and put her hands, one
on each side, to see if she could lift it, the pole was
solid, and she did lift it. She stepped back and swung
at it again.

Sien spoke. "Did not Jesus tell you that if you made
the choice to live by higher law, it would be done?"

Maria answered "Yes. He did. I remember."

Sien turned to the group. "Did not Jesus tell you all
that if you made the choice to live by higher law, it
would be done?"

In unison the group answered in the affirmative.

"Then know this, see yourself as doing the thing you
want to do and it shall be done.

Jim White walked over to be near Maria. He stepped
up and gently passed his hand through the pole. The
realization of what he had just done hit him like a
brick. He had wanted to live as Jesus has told him
so many years before, but was having difficulty
making the final steps. This day that all changed.
He cried. The tears were tears of joy.

Hilda, his wife came to him and put her arms around
him. She knew what was going on in his mind.
Years earlier he had stood up for his belief in
what Jesus had taught. He had met Jesus over
at the Henry's. At that time the church was waging
war against the Henry's. Jim sided with the Henry's
after meeting Jesus. The church cast him out,
abandoned him. Now he had accomplished.
It was a joy so deep he was overwhelmed.

Then it suddenly dawned on Hilda, she was "knowing"
every thought that was going on in her husbands head.
It was as if she were watching a motion picture. She
realized she too had stepped across the veil of
simplicity. She tried passing her hand through the
pole. It worked. She, too, cried. They both knew what
this meant - - - no more struggle. They both knew
they could now have anything they wanted anytime
they wanted. They knew they could do all the things
they had seen Sam Henry do.
