Is it true that August stole a day from February?
Yes. Under the Julian calendar, February had 29 days
and the other months alternated evenly between 30
and 31 days. Because July had 31 days, the month
following it was supposed to have 30 days. But that was
the month that Augustus had brought Egypt under control
and entered the city in triumph and he had to have it. He
couldn't, of course, be duly honored with a LESSER
month, one with fewer days. So to make his month as
long as Julius' month, they had to steal a day from
February (making it just 28) and add it to August
(making it 31). (They also messed with September and
the remaining months, in order to avoid three months
in a row with 31 days.)

things happening around the net. Today we have an
excerpt from, eMarketer Daily on the subject of identity
theft. It shows some interesting thoughts and ideas. Enjoy.

Steely-Eyed about Identity Theft
4 May 2004
Exactly 15% of US consumers have been victims of
identity theft, and 33% know a family or friend who
has been, according to a new survey from
InsightExpress.
Many people in the US are taking steps to prevent
identity theft, but their fears about the Internet as theft
conduit may too great. InsightExpress polled
500 people in the US on their views about identity
theft. The surveying took place online during a
two-day period in late April 2004. A full 85% of
respondents are concerned that identity theft could
happen to them. Most fear their identities could be
taken through a stolen wallet, and large percentages
fear theft through the Internet or stolen mail. Overall,
37% felt online purchasing poses the greatest threat,
followed by telephone purchases (34%) and
in-person purchases (10%).

may be somewhat misplaced. According to a
2002 survey by Star Systems, four times as many
identity theft cases came from lost or stolen wallets
as from transactions on the Net. Having mail stolen
or a house burgled was just as likely as a Web
purchase resulting in the theft of personal information.

The Star Systems data is for 2002, but in a more
recent survey by Ipsos-Insight, 42% of respondents
said they or someone they knew had been a victim
of credit card fraud, while only 18% said the same
for online credit card fraud.

For those of you who purchase goods and services

you need not be concerned about this problem. Long
ago, when we were new, we decided to go with PayPal,
because it was the least expensive way to go. As the years
passed we have had opportunities to get our own credit
card processing systems and decided against it. We made
that decision because we found PayPal to be a wonderful
advocate for the purchaser, were an organization with
known integrity and was a "third party" so to speak, an
intermediary between us and our customer. That provides
our customer with security they cannot get with companies
who accept credit cards themselves. We like that.
So, this article does give one some fodder to ponder.

Suppose you want to copy a Table of Contents to another
document. It can be done. Before copying it, however, you
need to unlock it. Unlocking means to disconnect TOC
entries from the headings to which they refer. To unlock
a TOC, click in the margin to the left of the first entry to
select the TOC. Next, press Ctrl+Shift+F9. Now you can
successfully copy or move the TOC to another document.
Because Word gives the text of TOCs the Hyperlink
character style, you have to change the color of the
text in the TOC (it's blue) and remove the underlines.

Chronic Illness And The Family:

Another very important issue that has to dealt with is
"time off" for the caregiver. And that is the responsibility
of the family as a whole. No one should be expected to
work 24 hours a day without adequate breaks. If another
family member can't fill in, there are community facilities
that might be able to find volunteers to sit with the client.
Some of the clients try to manipulate and control the
caregiver in a couple of ways, because they seem
themselves loosing control over their own lives. Two ways
to achieve that is to threaten to "take them out of the will"
or to report them the health or social service authorities
about the perceived neglect.
If this is the case or a possibility, the best thing to do is
to contact the nursing team. They need to know this and
can help. It is also handy to keep a journal of activities.
It doesn't have to be formal or elaborate: just notations.
It will give anyone who id questioned, a very clear
understanding of the daily events. In fact, journaling is
very therapeutic.
Care for the caregiver should include calls and visits to
friends and rest periods. This creates a much more
relaxed and accepting atmosphere. Ongoing support
by the visiting health team, the doctors, and pharmacist,
is vital for the wellbeing of everyone.
Unfortunately, people get sick and some for a long time.
It is important to remember that no one…client, caregiver,
family, or support team wished for this situation.
Communication with the outside world and living as normal
a life as possible, with open discussion and fair treatment,
is crucial. Probably one of the nicest and most appreciated
surprises a caregiver could receive is the gift of rest and
time to be alone.

David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.

on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

This was one of those fires where people did not want
to go to bed. They stayed and stayed and stayed. What
with the "new life" they had been given, their energy
levels were very high.
Sue Miles could not believe what had happened to her.
She had lived next to the Henrys for years, and watched
them as they carried out their daily lives, and helped people.
She, herself, had been helped many times by Sam and
Alewka, even including the travel down here. Now she
was able to do all that by herself. The idea at once
pleased and concerned her. She would have to be
careful about her thinking from now on. It wasn't that
Susan was a vindictive person, far from it. She just
wanted to be certain her thinking would not hurt anyone.
Helen Striker, too, now knew she would be forever safe.
She had been kept from dying by Sam Henry, who, in
the hospital had made her whole again, where medicine
thought she was gone. Now she knew she could do
anything, and no matter what circumstances in which
she found herself, she would be safe.
But the one who was taken by surprise the most was
Pam Wiley. This changed her life completely. Up to now
she only knew it was a good thing, and had to defend her
husband, David, and her friends Eloise and her parents,
in front of her parents. She had to do this from a position
of not truly knowing what all this was about, this business
of living by higher law. All she knew is it changed her
husband David, for the better and she did not want him
going back to his old ways. Now, suddenly, she was on
the "inside". She knew how it felt. She knew things now
she had never known before. And she knew she had the
same power as David.
The one thing that really surprised Pam was that suddenly
she saw she could have been living by higher law for a
long time, that it was only her unbelief that held her back.
She saw that is what was wrong with all men, that if they
but had the faith of a little child, they would soon be living
by higher law. She was pleased. She wept, silently.
David came up to her and gently hugged her. My how he
loved this woman. He was so glad he married her. Then
he moved over and gave his Mother a big hug, and
whispered in her ear, "Welcome Mother."
Mae was overwhelmed by what she heard, knew, saw,
and felt. It had never occurred to her for one instant she
would be able to live by higher law. She dismissed the
thought years ago. Yet here she was, being welcomed
into a group she had long admired, as an equal. She
didn't know if she deserved that or not. That was a burden
to Mae. She did not feel worthy. Then, in her mind, she
was told "All who commit to living by higher law, and who
follow the law 'As ye sow, so shall ye reap", using it for the
good of mankind, are worthy. She saw immediately that
all she had thought of as sin, what she thought of as an
impediment to being accepted, was all foolish thinking
on her part. Sin is a concept of man. Your Maker simply
wants you to cross the veil and never again will you do
anything to harm anyone. All one need do is make the
commitment and you are worthy.
Throughout the evening Romano and Oomano were
moving from one person to the next, extending their thanks
and gratitude for that persons company at this special day.
Always they were almost beaten back with an enthusiastic
thank you for the invitation, that they might, this day, be
privileged to commit to higher law. Those who attended
most surely received more than they thought.
The kids, Romano and Oomano, were trying to get to
everyone and thank them for coming. They wanted to get
away on their honeymoon, but the group was so involved,
they could hardly move.
Finally they came to a group of kids. They were not only
the kids from home here, but kids from the orphanage,
and Hemno, Boolanga's kids and the like. They all came
over to Romano and Oomano. They each lined up to
give the couple a hug. These kids were unpretentious.
They knew how to love without reservation and their
commitment to higher law would likewise be free, without
reservation and completely enthusiastic. It was good.
Romano and Oomano told the kids they would be back
in a month, maybe less, and that Riata would be working
with them. As a matter of fact, why didn't they all come to
visit them at their honeymoon house, exactly two weeks
from this day. The kids all agreed.
Eventually Romano and Oomano got around to her
folks. Abetta had tears in her eyes, as did Miguele.
"What a wonderful day this is. There are so many here
who were helped by Jesus. There are so many whose
lives have changed. My life has changed, Papa's life
has changed. We must learn how to do things from
new now. I love you two so much. Enjoy your honeymoon.
Come visit us before long, I will miss you." said Abetta.
"Mama, I have asked the kids to visit us two weeks
from this day. They all said yes. I want you and Papa to
come with them, okay?" asked Oomano.
"We will my dear one. We will." answered Miguele. He
moved over to her and gave her a hug that clearly
expressed the love he, a father, had for his daughter.
"Thank you Daddy." she whispered in his ear, "And
welcome to our world."
With that they left.
