Beyond Keyword Optimization

The rate of change online used to be fun. Chasing the
cutting edge was an exciting occupation with limited
accountability. But now ROI, quarterly budgets, and the
need to grow sales AND profits have replaced the
cutting edge as the object of our efforts. Yet despite
the transition to more traditional business goals and
outcomes, the rate change remains the same.
Take keyword buys. This is still a relatively new
phenomena, and many businesses are only just
beginning to develop an approach to extract the
benefits. Nevertheless returns have already been
compressed as the cost of key words has quickly
been bid up to their marginal rates of return and in
some case beyond. The ease with which results can
be tracked has allowed the market to be extremely
efficient in pricing keywords, making it harder and
harder for the buyers of words to generate a return.
Pockets of gold still exist. Keywords that have been
overlooked by competitors can still produce outsized
returns. But these pockets will only shrink over time
as more buyers enter the market chasing the same
end customers.
To continue to extract value from keywords,
marketers are going to have to turn inward. For
most companies, getting the traffic is seen as the
whole of the equation. But just as important is
what you do with the traffic. So even as we are
only starting to get the hang of keyword buys, we
need to tackle landing page optimization.
To date, landing page optimization has been too
hard and too expensive to generate a return. But
with the returns on keywords contracting and the
advent of new optimization tools, the math behind
such efforts looks better everyday.
To date, most companies purchasing keywords
have to settle with dropping a potential customer
off at the home page. In some cases, they can
send them to a category level page or to a particular
product page. Going beyond this to a more
customized landing page that better matches the
keyword is simply too taxing in terms of time, people,
and money. Simply getting the requisite page
changes through IT is often a sufficient barrier in
and of itself.
But solutions exist for these problems. Services
like Offermatica (www.offermatica.com) from
Fort Point and Optimost (www.optimost.com) offer
tools that allow marketers and merchants to
cost-effectively manipulate a page to reflect any
number of necessary variants. Now a home page
can show language and featured products that
clearly tie to the keyword that brought a potential
customer to the site. Even product level pages can
be improved, be it through highlighting particularly
relevant product features, adjusting pricing and
promotion, or showing related products -- all of
which tie back to the source keyword.
In the case of Offermatica, the tool works as a hosted
application. Portions of a page are defined as
mBoxes? that are then filled based on the keyword
source. The content can be anything you would
normally put on a web page text, images, links,
forms, etc. Because it is a hosted application, it
bypasses the need for internal IT while providing
the responsiveness needed to keep up with rapidly
changing marketing requirements. And best of all, both
Offermatica and Optimost are priced as a service
eliminating both difficulty and cost as an excuse
for doing nothing.
Keywords at least the ones that work are not going
to get any cheaper. They will remain a valuable tool
for driving qualified traffic. But increasingly buying the
right ones will only be the first step. Generating a return
on the resulting traffic through landing page optimization
will be the key to continuing to generate positive returns.

Nothing comes easy BUT succeeding after multiple
attempts is very rewarding and energizing! It's also
one of the best de-stressors you could ever develop
for yourself. Just as I stood in front of that mirror and
said out loud "Wow - Looking Good", you, too, can
be confident and relaxed. By knowing and applying
this new commitment to your everyday life, you can
regain control of it. If you don't quit, you will reach
the goal. Here are some everyday examples of how
to use this new commitment. You have decided you
want to spend some time alone, so you try telling the
family they should respect your need and leave alone
for one hour daily. Now you need to find the space,
privacy, quiet area and an environment conducive
to BEING quiet. This may take weeks to get organized,
but if you don't stick with it, you'll never get the
opportunity to be alone, let alone the benefit of
spending time by yourself. Generally, women have
more difficulty finding this quiet time. They are
usually "fitting it in". Then, of course, it gets forgotten
amongst all the other "things that must get done".
That's the trap. Another example is finding the jar of
peanut butter, which you know is there - somewhere.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"I think you're going too deep too fast, Sam. I'll
come to that concept later. It is enough for me to
be able to enjoy this much of higher law. I wish I
had learned it as a teenager." replied Helen.
"You could have Helen. Remember that time you were
riding your bike with some girls and you got your
pant leg caught in the chain, just as you were
starting to go down a long hill? You were pretty
scared, right? And then a sudden calm came over
you and you steered your bike and you to
safety, without fear or panic. Remember?" asked
Sam.
"How did you know about that Sam? Yes, I remember.
I found that experience to be something that
stayed with me for quite a while. It was as if it
was someone else doing the steering. Once that
feeling overtook me I knew I would be safe. Down
at the bottom of the hill, when it was all over, I
removed my pant leg from the chain and all was
well. The girls I was with had a rougher ride than
I did." said Helen.
"That was your first time your Maker was letting
you know there was more to life than you knew. Had
you pressed on with a search then you would have
arrived here sooner. It happens to all of us, all
of us. We just don't know what to do with it when
we are young and there are no examples around for
us to follow." Sam had shown her what happens
to everyone at some point in their young lives.
"Did you have such an experience, Ben?" asked Sam.
"I did. When I was sixteen I was jumping out of a
hay loft with a friend. We were landing on a wagon
full of hay, then going back up in the loft and
jumping again. The farmer had a rope and a pulley
on an arm that hung out maybe five feet from the
barn. My friend thought it was a good idea to run
and jump for it to see if we could swing on it.
Neither of us thought we would be well out past
the hay wagon, if we missed. He wanted me to go
first. You know what boys are like Sam. I had to
show my courage and it seemed simple to me. Right
next to the hay wagon the farmer had placed his
hay rake. All the tines were down but the machine
was big, steel and would be a bad landing if I hit
it. I ran. I missed the rope and knew I was in
trouble. Then a sudden calm came over me and I
knew everything would be allright. I soured, so to
speak, like a bird. Somehow I missed that rake,
hit the ground on my feet and then turned and
rolled, like they teach in parachute jumping. I
never hurt a thing. I was lucky, but as you
explain it now that was just my Maker, inside,
showing I would be looked after. I have had many
such incidents since, especially in police work."
said Ben.
"Its a wonder isn't it. All the while we are
growing up our Maker tries to show us there is
much more to life than we think. We remember those
incidents, yet we do nothing about them at the
time or even later. If we would teach our children
to look for those things and then learn to look
deeper when they occur mankind would move sooner
into living by higher law. Of course mankind must
teach his children to do what he does in order to
support his system. Little do they know how
fragile his system is and how easily it can be
demolished. Even the depression of the 1930's
didn't teach him much. He thinks he is now in
control of his system, but he isn't." said Sam.
"How are Jim and Hilda making out?" asked Sam.
"I don't know. They are over there. I haven't
spoken with them. Helen has taken up most of my
time." answered Ben.
Sam and Billy walked over to be with Jim and Hilda
White. They were alone. Hilda was crying. Jim was
consoling her.
"Hello you two. How are you making out?" asked
Sam, quietly.
"Oh hi, Sam. We're fine. I think this was just a
little too much for Hilda." said Jim.
"No Jim. Hilda is finding this experience very
humbling. She has wanted such an experience all
her life and now it has happened it is like the
realization of a dream. She feels love so
intensely she is overcome. She will be fine. Not
everyone will go through what you and she have
just gone through. How are you?" asked Sam.
