What does frying and baking have to do with acrylamide?
Apparently, acrylamide is formed in the food during cooking.
Scientists discovered that acrylamide is formed by a reaction
at high temperatures between the compound asparagine
(an amino acid found in asparagus, where it has no harmful
effect, as well as in potatoes and breads) and certain sugars
in starchy foods. That compound is metabolized in the body
into glycinamide, which is the agent believed to cause cancer.
Can we cook food differently to reduce acrylamide levels?
Scientists are working on that question right now, so stay
tuned. In the meantime, it might be advisable to cut back on
potato chips and french fries (two foods with particularly high
acrylamide levels). Researchers are not telling us we need
to stop eating them altogether, though. And remember, just
because something, given in unusually high doses, causes
cancer in rats, doesn't mean it causes cancers in humans. It's
always a good idea to be moderate in your eating habits, but
don't panic! There's always going to be SOMETHING
scientists are worrying about.

Today we a couple stories from around the net that
should be of interest to "netters".
The first concerns itself with increased "click-thru" rates
for permission based email and the second deals with
changes in the law that went into effect recently.
First, the "click-thru" rates. It appears, by surveys, that
the click-thru rates for permission based email are on
the rise. Permission based email is where a person
asks to receive a newsletter, or other advertising. Have

Email Click-Through Rates Rise, According To Bigfoot

The all-important click-through rate for permission-based
email campaigns has improved a bit in the first quarter,
according to a new study by Bigfoot Interactive. Research
by the email services company finds that click-through
rates for permission-based email campaigns in the retail
and financial services categories improved by 14 percent
and 3 percent, respectively.
For the first quarter of 2004, the Bigfoot study found that
the auto category experienced a 19.3 percent click-through
rate for promotional email--up more than 8 percent from the
fourth quarter of 2003--while the retail sector saw a
click-through rate of 11.2 percent.
The media segment--comprising personalized newsletter
headlines--saw a 26 percent increase in the unique
click-through rate for editorial campaigns over the fourth
quarter 2003, to reach 16.5 percent. Promotional
campaigns, special offers, and contests helped boost
the average unique click-through rate for promotional
messages for a 96 percent increase over the
fourth-quarter results, to reach 4.9 percent.
The click-through rate for financial services-related email
campaigns rose to 22.1 percent for the first quarter of
2004, versus 17.6 percent for the fourth quarter of 2003.

The second story of the day is really interesting. It
seems the FTC put into effect a law that requires all
email of a "sexually explicit" nature must now have
the words "SEXUALLY EXPLICIT" in the subject line.
I don't know if that will work, because these people
seem to find ways around all the laws, or plain don't
care about them. However, it does allow us to go
into our email programs and set up filters that send
all such mail to the trash, without us having to delete
it always. We'll see if it works or not.

STARTUP DISK
When you first set up your computer, you were probably
prompted at some point to create a "Windows Startup Disk.
The Startup Disk will let you start your computer--even when
windows won't run--so you can run diagnostics to narrow
down a problem. You'll need one blank diskette. Click the
Start button, go to Settings, Control Panel, and then
double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click the Startup Disk
tab and insert the diskette into the drive. Click Create Disk
and follow the prompts. When complete, remove the diskette,
label it clearly ("Windows Startup Disk") and, store it
someplace where you can find it fast.

A friend of mine wrote:
Recently, I wanted to take a mild antidepressant, and
a friend suggested St. John's Wort. I took it for several
weeks. I think it may have had a positive effect on my
depression, but I began experiencing positional vertigo
when doing such simple things as turning over in bed
or reaching for an article of clothing on a shelf above
my head. I asked a doctor relative of mine about this,
and he asked me what in my life I was doing differently.
I told him about the St. John's Wort, and he suggested
I stop taking it. I did as he suggested and the positional
vertigo symptoms abated completely.
Conclusion: I believe there IS a place for non-traditional
medicine. But the medical profession's criticism of the
things that one can purchase in a health food store is
that none of the supplements and other merchandise
are regulated by the FDA, and I think my personal
experiences are proof that one has to be very cautious
in using unregulated substances.
My comments: It is very unfortunate that this has
happened, but it is the classic example of why you
must do some serious research when choosing
supplements. Given the right kind of St. John's Wort,
it is said to be very helpful for mild and medium
depression. It may be difficult and time-consuming
to do research, but checking will allow you to ask
questions about side effect and interactions
concerning your other meds. Call the 1 800 number
on the bottle. Ask for proof that they meet FDA
regulations and follow Good Manufacturing Practices
(GMP). Who is on their research team designation-wise?
We all want "natural" products, but did you know that
anyone can label their products "natural" if they contain
even as little as 4% natural ingredients? The rest can
be anything. Once you have found a company that you
feel you can trust, STAY with their products. If at all
possible, avoid using one of this and one from
another manufacturer.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

Sam.
And, finally, Sam came to see Miguele and Abetta.
He left Billy with Hemno.
"You two sure know how to throw a party!" he said,
laughing.
"Oh! Mr. Sam, we did not know this was going to
happen. It is the most wonderful thing that has
happened to us ever, next to meeting your
daughter. She is the one responsible for all
this." said Abetta.
"No, Abetta, she is not. She merely showed us what
we, each of us, could do if we so chose. Everyone
here has chosen. Romano's and Oomano's wedding
was only the right time and place for all this to
happen, and, Jesus did nothing, except advise each
of us that impediments to our objective were
removed. That being said, and believed, we then
proceeded to exercise higher law. That is what you
did, are doing, can do and will hereafter do. You
made the choice. Welcome, both of you." said Sam.
Abetta came over to Sam and gave him a big hug.
She felt nothing but love for everyone here this
day.
Miguele, too, whose heart was always filled with
love for his fellow man, felt a deep and genuine
love for all present.
"Have you two been shown how to travel, how to
keep safe, how to manifest?" asked Sam.
"Yes, Mr. Sam. Riata has spent quite some time
with us, when she wasn't with the kids. She has
shown us how to do all these things. It is so
simple I never would have thought it. I was
resigned to living the rest of my life as I was
and I was most grateful for that. My daughters
were both able to do these things and were of
immense help to us, but now we know how. I am
truly humbled, Mr. Sam. That I would be chosen to
have these privileges is a miracle by itself."
said Miguele.
"Ah! but MIguele, you were not chosen. You did the
choosing. That is how you were chosen. You were
simply shown a way of life that is available to
all men. You made the decision to accept that as a
way of life you wanted, as did your daughters
before you. You are the one who did the choosing,
Miguele." said Sam.
"It is strange, this choosing business. I feel as
if I have been chosen, yet you say it is I who did
the choosing. I wonder how it is that I, among so
many, have the opportunity and others do not?"
asked Miguele.
"Oh, but they do Miguele. All men, somewhere in
their lifetime, have been shown the way. Few there
are who make the choice. You did. Yes, it feels as
if you have been chosen, and you have, but it is
you who did the choosing. Many men have seen and
did not make the choice, Miguele." said Sam.
"I can see that Mr. Sam, especially now. I seem to
have much more knowledge available to me now. I
know more things now. And if I have questions I
notice all I need do is present them and the
answer comes. Can I help in any way, Mr. Sam."
asked Miguele.
"I am sure that when the time comes, Miguele, you
and I will meet somewhere in this earth, where
there is need of us to help mankind. Who knows
what that will be? It could be a fire, a flood,
famine, a war, or it might simply be a common
friend who needs a little help. I know you will be
there. Welcome to our world Miguele, and thank you
for such a wonderful and memorable wedding.
Everyone will remember this day." said Sam.
And so it was that the wedding of Romano and
Oomano became a turning point in the lives of all
present. This day would be truly remembered by
each one of the guests. And the good that would
come from this group would affect people from all
over the world.

On the way back to New York as I was sitting in the
Phoenix airport, they announced that the flight to
Vegas was full. The airline was looking for
volunteers to give up their seats.
In exchange, they'd give you a $100 voucher for your
next flight and a first class seat in the plane
leaving an hour later. About eight people ran up to
the counter to take advantage of the offer.
About 15 seconds later all eight of those people sat
down grumpily as the lady behind the ticket counter
