3 Traits for Success

The other day I was conducting a group interview at one of
my off-line businesses. I was addressing about 15 applicants
for an office position and going over the three basic
character traits that I require. I've talked about these same
principles with every applicant since I started hiring help for
my businesses in 1976 and have since hired hundreds of people.
I have hired and worked people of virtually all types: men; women;
gay; straight; various races and religions; tall; short; skinny; fat.
See, to me, it's not any of that. It's the character and heart of an
individual that matters.
As I explained to them, these 3 traits are not only what I
require of employees, but what I look for in anyone I associate
with, whether they are vendors, advisors or friends. As are
most values, these were taught to me at an early age by my
parents. They are:
Honesty-Dependability-Attitude
Honesty-I only want to deal with honest people and I?m not just
talking about stealing. I mean people who, if you ask them a
question, they will tell you the truth-good-bad-or ugly! And
sometimes it isn?t only what you say that is dishonest, it is
what you don?t say. My dad always said that lying was the same
as stealing and aside from the fibs we tell for politeness (that
was a good dinner Mrs. Jones), I believe he was right.
Honesty in your business is a major key to long term success!!
Dependability-I was raised in a successful family business and
started working on the payroll when I was twelve. In my family,
you didn?t miss school or work unless you were too sick to get
out of bed. Otherwise, you dragged yourself in and hoped some-
body would have mercy and send you home.
I was also taught to always arrive at least 10 minutes early for
any scheduled event. There was no "fashionably late" to my dad.
Of course the result has been countless hours of waiting on
other people throughout my life and being the first to arrive
at parties.
Very few people today are that dependable and even fewer young
people and kids are being taught these lessons. I call being
habitually late and/or no showing, "The Silent Killers", because
very few customers or friends will tell you that being undepend-
able is why they no longer associate or do business with you!
I?ve found by starting and running eight successful businesses,
in varied fields and arenas, that just being dependable and
trying your best to keep regular hours, live up to your com-
mitments in a timely fashion and being consistent; can give you
a big head start on the competition.
Dependability alone can separate your business from the field!!
Attitude-Last but certainly not least is attitude. The longer we
live, the more we understand that our attitude is the one and only
thing that we have 100% control over! I?m sure I?ll have plenty to
say about attitude in future issues, so just a couple of thoughts.
Your attitude determines not only your honesty and dependability
but also all of your other actions. It ultimately will determine
not only the success of your business but of your entire life!
Put simply, your attitude is determined by your thoughts, and your
thoughts are determined largely by what you allow yourself to focus
or dwell on. Each and every day we have to be vigilant about what
we choose to watch, read and listen to. Our attitude can also be
influenced by those we choose to associate with. So choose wisely!
I certainly have times when my attitude gets sour. We all have bad
days! I like the analogy of the garden, where our good thoughts,
influences and associations are like the fruits, vegetables and
flowers. They need constant tending and attention to grow. Whereas,
the negative or self-defeating thoughts and influences are like the
weeds, they have to be pulled constantly. Unlike the flowers, doing
nothing favors the weeds and they will take over the garden.
So invest in the tools that will help you understand how to build and
maintain a positive, winning attitude. Your investment will pay
dividends not only in your business but in your personal and spiritual
life as well.
Your attitude will ultimately determine the success of your business!!
Do the thing and you?ll have the power!!

The Ins And Outs of Breathing
Every breath you take is vital to your survival

There is a protective, filtering lining that is made up of all
sorts of devices to clear out unwanted irritants or intruders.
The top layer has tiny hairs called cilia that sweep off any
loose debris. The next layer has a soft, mucous lining that
swells up to wash out more persistent intruders. This lining
continues all the way to the very end of the lungs, where the
tiny "exchange" sacs (alveoli) are located. These tiny hairs all
along the walls of each nostril help "push" or propel the breath
along. Anything that is caught such as bacteria, foreign
particles, viruses, etc. is directly eliminated back out of the
body.
This thick mucous lining contains many antioxidants, which in
turn neutralize the inhaled pollutants (free radical intruders).
(Ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and fuel emissions, etc.) It provides
a layer of protection that is so effective that most of the time
these pollutants don't even come in contact with the lining
under the hairs (cilia). This "cleaning" or "sweeping" works
constantly to prevent anything from "setting up house" in your
respiratory system. Coughing is one way to get rid of these
unwanted visitors.
This breath of air then moves into the sinus areas. You have
three sets of these. Their purpose is to filter for unwanted
matter, and warm and moisten the air. I once read somewhere that
the "blood vessels in the nasal mucosa (lining) act as
radiators: they cool the hot air and warm the cool air". Next
this air flows through the larynx (voice box) to trachea
(windpipe) into the bronchus and then it branches off to the
smaller passages. Here you come to a HUGE network of tubes.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"Well, that was quite a wedding! When I got home I
found my place had been vandalized, and torn
apart. What a mess. Sam, Alewka, I am so thankful
for having learned and chosen higher law. That
kind of thing no longer worries me." she said.
"I'm proud of you Sue. Most people would be
considerably upset with someone breaking into
their house and vandalizing it. You seem to have
taken to higher law, for now you have a much
deeper and richer appreciation for the things that
really count in life. Very good." said Sam.
"Its funny, Sam, for a minute there I was
beginning to respond as I would have, before. Then
it came to me I was not nearly so concerned and I
began to explore that feeling. It was then I knew
I could fix it all and that those who committed
the crime would really be the ones who suffer, so
I used higher law to straighten the mess out, then
came over here." Susan replied.
"You have everything under control, Susan?" asked
Akewka.
"Yes, both I and the house are fine."
"You're right, that was quite a wedding. We will
all be talking about that for a few years. Mass
transformation into higher law does not happen
often, but I guess the group was just the right
group." said Sam.
"I hope Romano and Oomano are okay." observed
Alewka.
"Oh, I'm sure they're fine, Alewka. You know what
it's like to be newly married. Nothing else
matters except each other. They are a fine
couple." said Susan.
"Yeah, I know. What a wonderful time in a person's
life, those first few weeks and months after the
wedding." Alewka was reminiscing.
"How do you think Billy will do with higher law,
Sam?" asked Susan.
"We can only wait and see, Susan. Youth are a
little more apt to respond to emotion than adults,
but I think Billy has a cool head on his
shoulders. If he spends time with Tim and Tom
he'll be just fine. Once he gets in the habit of
doing what they do he'll respond the way they do
to all situations. I had a long talk with Billy
and I am convinced he knows what he is up to. He
has a keen memory of his past. He will not return
to that." answered Sam.
"Jim and Hilda were certainly pleased, and
surprised." said Alewka.
"I think Hilda was the one taken by surprise,
Alewka. Jim was very pleased. I imagine he will go
in to work and submit his resignation this week.
Mae is the one who I think was surprised." said
Susan.
There was a quiteness that happened and suddenly
Mae appeared.
"You're right Susan. I was very surprised, but
what a wonderful feeling. I am no long dependent
upon David, Sam, Alewka. I can come and go as I
wish, and I can do the things I wish. Wow!" said
Mae.
"Hello, Mae. It's nice to see you again.
Practicing with the law?" aske Sam.
"You bet Sam Henry. I have lived my life
subservient to others. I was oppressed by Frank,
and then dependent upon my son. Now I am free I
will enjoy life to it's fullest. I intend to
travel all through this earth. I will help mankind
wherever I see need, and I will disappear before
their eyes. I am finally free, Sam." said Mae,
with a confidence that had not come out of her
mouth for years.
Sam smiled.
"Life has sure turned around for you, hasn't it
Mae?" asked Alewka.
"Alewka, you and Sam have been good friends. You
have changed my life, just by being there for me
when I needed you. Then when David learned higher
law, I began to think it might even be possible
for an old gal like me. When Jesus said that all
impediment to living by higher law was removed, it
was as if he was speaking directly to me. It was
then I knew." said Mae, "Susan, maybe you and I
should travel together. You have nothing much to
do with your life now except give it to mankind."
