TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
What is the difference between a butterfly and a moth?
How high can butterflies fly?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How much does a shrew eat?
A lot, and very frequently. The pygmy shrew, for instance,
hunts constantly and must devour the equivalent of its body
weight every 24 hours just to survive. It moves so quickly to
hunt food that its heart rate can go as high as 1,000 beats
per minute.
Is there such a thing as a moth that drinks blood from animals?
You bet. It's the aptly named Asian Vampire Moth. This strange
insect pierces the skin of animals with its sharp proboscis and
drinks the animals' blood. Think that's disgusting? Some moths
feed on nothing but the eye fluids of cattle and deer. MOST
moths and butterflies, on the other hand, feed on nectar and
pollen from flowers or on a variety of moist, rotting matter such
as fruit, sap, and animal droppings. Some moths don't eat at all
as adults and have very short life spans.

AOL readies next-generation IM tools
NEW YORK (AP) -- America Online Inc. is preparing to
ditch its decade-old instant messaging platform,
building a replacement from scratch that's designed to
integrate text, audio, video and future forms of
communication.
AOL has released an early, limited-feature preview of
its next-generation IM software, called Triton, and
hopes to complete it by year's end. AOL plans only one
more update to the existing AIM software, now at
version 5.9.
The key difference will be the use of tabs to manage a
growing list of contacts.
Currently, chats with different contacts occur in
separate windows, quickly cluttering the computer
desktop. Add to that ways to communicate beyond text,
including audio, video and file transfers.
Triton (pronounced TRY-ton) keeps all that within a
single window. You'll flip through vertical tabs to
change contacts and horizontal ones to switch the mode
of communication.
AOL engineers took a modular approach in building
Triton. That means new features, such as support for
Internet-based phones, can be easily added as a block
rather than retrofitted into the software as is now the
case.
Chamath Palihapitiya, general manager of AIM, said the
original software was designed in 1996 with text in
mind.
"Would you ever have thought in 1996 that this computer
is going to be used for ... sending stuff to mobile
phones and initiating calls over the Internet?" he
asked.
Triton will also incorporate "IM Catcher," IM's version
of a spam folder. The tool collects all messages from
those not on your buddy list.
AOL and CNN.com are owned by parent company Time
Warner.

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 11 of 12
Now that you understand a little more about cleaning
agents, disinfectants and sterilants, lets go back and
see how we would handle the examples I mentioned at the
beginning of this article. First example: the toothless
cherubic 5 month old baby has his soft little face is
covered in vegetable matter and ground up meat. This
mess found its way into his hair. Soap and water is
just fine. Probably a soft cloth and water would even
be adequate. You certainly would NOT want to use any
chemicals on his skin. This babe doesnt need any
preventative measures. Just pour on loads of love,
encouragement, and fun for both of you! (Remember we
speaking of normal situations: not sick children or
adults.)
Second example: you found a (fragile/breakable)
thermometer that may or may not have been used: you
cant tell by its dried state. In this case you would
assume it has been used. You would wash it in soap and
warm: not hot water, being careful not to break it. You
would also soak it in some sort of disinfectant, and in
this case that would be alcohol. The next time you
would use it, it would not be practical to wash it off
first, (temperature would automatically increase from
the warm water). The alcohol would already be
evaporated and the thermometer would be clean,
disinfected, and ready. If by any chance you do break
it, treat the mercury as the toxin it is. Open windows
and gather it up gently and carefully on something
where it wont slip off. Place it in a waterproof
container and phone your Poison Control Center (front
of phone book) for more instructions. This is toxic
material and you dont want it ending up in your
landfill. Dentists have to take special precautions
when discarding any leftovers from your amalgam
fillings. You should too. Then find yourself a new
another type of thermometer.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
Tired from the days journey the three
travelers opened the door of the building and
almost stumbled in. It was full dark outside and
not much lighter inside.
The place was dirty, dusty and smelly. There
were four men scattered around. One was behind
a bar type of construct, one was seated at a table
alone, in the corner and two were seated at a
table near the bar.
The owner of the place asked if they wanted
anything. They said they would have some tea,
mostly for politeness and courtesy. Ng pulled out
something to eat from his pack. The ladies
manifested what they wanted to eat and the three
of them were heavily engrossed in taking on
sustenance.
In minutes the keep brought the tea and the
ladies paid with gold coin, far more than they
need to have paid. "We would like to stay the
night, maybe more, will that cover it?"
"Y...y...yes he stammered." He was not used to
seeing money up here. Most folks left oil or food.
Money was cherished because he knew he could buy
much with it when he went to Lhasa himself toward
the end of the season.
But there was a problem, one that always
happens around money. It wasn't much but both Mae
and Susan saw the flicker of greed cross the man's
eyes. They knew there would be trouble later.
They sat and relaxed sipping their tea. The
keep brought more tea, which was appreciated, and
the three of them talked of their journey. There
certainly had not been any talk on the trail. Ng
was all business.
The ladies kept the staves close. Ng kept his
pack close. That is what you do in this land where
one had no protection from thieves and marauders.
Before long it was time to sleep. Ng suggested
they sleep in relays, that one should stay awake
if they wanted to retain all their possessions.
"Fear not Ng. We can all sleep. I will cause a
veil of protection to surround us and we will have
no trouble."
Ng believed her and let the subject go. The
keep turned out the oil lamp and all present slept
where they were, only moving to lay on the floor.
Even though the place was dirty and smelly it
was at least out of the wind, the cold and any
possible snow that might come up during the night
at this high elevation. The ladies were now
toughened to life up here. They were not fussy, or
missing their "conveniences" at home. They had too
great a respect for life to fall into that trap
and they knew, of course, they could have or do
anything they wished, even right here.
The incident was a minor one. The keeper of
the inn thought he might remove Ng's back pack
during the night. He could see nothing the ladies
were carrying so he could think of nowhere else
they might keep any gold coin except in Ng's pack.
Mae saw it coming, and transmitted thoughts to
Ng to have him remain quiet, to let it happen. He
did.
The keep took the pack and left. He rummaged
around through the pack and found nothing but food
and a very small amount of extra clothing, a cup,
and a strange amulet.
He was much dissatisfied with his haul this
night. Had they given him the last of their money?
He attempted to return the pack in a manner so no
one would know it was tampered with. Ng still did
not move, neither did the women.
The day broke bright and sunny. The travelers
stretched and went outside to see the day. It was
so bright it took time for their eyes to adjust
from the darkness from which they came.
Now they had a good look at the land around.
The trail they had come up was a low sloping trail
for quite a distance until it dissapeared into a
sharp drop.
Ahead they had a steady climb up to a plateau
beyond which they could not see.
"The next days travel is hard. We have to
climb up to that plateau and cross it. On the
other side we must climb down into a river chasm
and travel in the water. It is not deep but it is
the only way through the canyon on the other side
of the plateau. The canyon is maybe a day long, so
when we start our next travel I suggest we begin
early. There is another rest place on the other
side of the canyon. You will have feet that will
be wet and feel frozen from the water. It not very
nice."
Ng did not baby them, but warned them. He
could do nothing about the method of travel, that
is just the way it was.
"I also think we must stay here this day and
rest. The elevation will make you sick until your
body had adjusted. You already have noticed this."
He was quite businesslike. "Why did you tell me
not to move when that man took my pack?
