Are butterflies poisonous?
Where are the most movies made?
How did the "Emmy" get its name?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is the difference between a butterfly and a moth?
Butterflies and moths have a lot in common, but there are
some major differences. First, butterflies tend to flit around
during the daylight hours, while moths prefer the night.
Butterflies tend to have smooth, slender bodies and colorful
wings, while moths are generally thick and furry with duller
wings. There are also minor differences in antennae and
the way they hold their wings when resting.
How high can butterflies fly?
They look too delicate to go far, but butterflies can fly pretty
high up. During fall migration, Monarch butterflies have been
observed flying by tall buildings, such as the Empire State
Building, as high as 1,000 feet up. Storm fronts frequently pick
up butterflies and carry them hundreds of miles, probably at
altitudes of several thousand feet.

If You Turn Your Back It Could Hurt!
by Ken Darby
In the old western movies a "real gunfighter" would
always keep his back to a wall. That way he was
exposing himself to all in front of him, meaning he
could see all in front of him.
There are a lot of us who make the claim we are
not predjudiced.
I make the claim that is a bunch of malarkey!
I see Catholics who won't read prostestant literature.
I see Jews who won't read Moslem literature. I see
Moslems who won't read Catholic literature.
I see Germans who still react negatively to a Jew
and Jews who still wouldn't buy a Volkwagen.
There are the Serbs who don't like the Croats,
Baptists who swear the Presbyterians are flat out
wrong and still pockets of hatred in the American
south against the African American.
I see nearly any church purporting to be Christian
against anything that might take their flock away or
enlighten them. They brandish the word occult as
if it means anything other than the bible.
From the very sources who teach that predjudice
is wrong we are taught predjudice.
Surely it must be clear that if you don't venture into new
lands, literature and adventures you shall not grow!
Where, in North America, would we be if it weren't for
those who refused to accept the status quo? Where
would we be technologically if we didn't push the
outer edge of the envelope?
So why, then, are you predjudiced?
Look into another religions literature. Look into biblical
history that doesn't come from the bible. Go meet,
befriend, and get to know someone in some other
ethnic group. Learn what training and background
they come from. Get to understand them, and ask
them to understand you.
Go to a church, synagogue or mosque completely out
of your religion, for four weeks straight and get to learn
their teachings.
You can always keep your "back to the wall". No one
says you have to convert. You just have to SEE all that
is in front of you.
In the old days in the west IF YOU TURNED YOUR BACK
IT COULD HURT! There you could have gotten shot.
Exactly the same is true today. If you fail to expand
yourself, your learning, your understanding, your
spiritual nature, your emotional nature, your social
circle, your understanding of different religions, IF
YOU TURN YOUR BACK IT COULD HURT!
And remember the old western, if you don't expand
yourself, if you don't venture past you own circle, if you
don't do things to grow...

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 12 of 12
Third example: you cut a finger and blood is dripping
down. A good first aid book (also front of phone book)
will tell you to clean it under running water, assess
the damage. Go to an emergency department if you think
it needs stitches. If you feel it doesnt, wrap a clean
towel around it and hold your hand above your heart
level, until it stops bleeding. Do not put anything on
the wound. If in doubt, visit a care clinic. You do not
want any chemicals in that wound. Do not use alcohol as
it is known to kill those delicate cells that the cut
has exposed. And dont use soap either: it will seep
into the open cut.
Last example: you are faced with a sink full of dirty
dishes from someone who has the flu. You have several
choices. You can soak them in bleach. (Thats what
hospitals used to do before they switched to disposal
dishes for isolation patients.) You can place the
dishes into an electric dishwasher. You can wear rubber
gloves, wash them well in soap and water, let them rest
in bleach for at least five minutes, RINSE THEM, dry
them, and put them away. (Check the container for the
strength and soaking instructions.)
Do you ever go down the household cleaner aisle in your
grocery store and have your eyes run or your nose feel
funny? Dont you just want to get out of there as soon
as possible? Those are chemicals you are being exposed
to and for many people, adding a few more chemicals to
their already overloaded bodies, can cause grief. We
need these types of chemicals at the proper time and
place, using them the correct way. Use them wisely and
carefully. The lifestyle you protect will be your own.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Ng, I know what you have in that pack. I can
replace anything that was taken and more. You know
that. It just was not a time to create a fuss. He
was dissapointed and replaced the pack. If there
is anything missing let me know. It just wasn't
worth fighting over."
"Thank you. If I had been alone and he had
taken my food I would have been in trouble.
However, I checked and he took nothing. One is not
inclined to take food from travelers in this land.
His reputation would get out and he would be dealt
with severely. That is the way in this land."
The trio spent the rest of the day outdoors
simply enjoying the day. They took time to look at
things around the rest area. There was plenty of
snow and ice and that was melting drop by drop.
Out of the snows appeared little green plants with
some vivid pink flowers.
In the distance they could hear a roar and
they went to investigate. What they found was a
waterfall. It dropped a large distance down into a
canyon and kept right on going out onto the
steppes.
"That the water we must go through tomorrow.
Stream not too big and not deep but only way
through." Ng was again letting the girls know what
the travel would be like tomorrow.
The day went fast. They stopped to eat twice
and the rest of the time they spent talking,
exploring and just sitting, absorbing the brief
but warm sun. This spot was completely surrounded
by high mountains. The sun shone down here for a
couple hours around noon and the rest of the time
was in shade.
By seven in the evening it was full dark and
one had to be careful where you walked. The light
from the rest area served as a beacon and led them
once again inside.
This time they were all alone. The three men
who had been there the night before had moved on.
Only the keep remained. He appeared much more
friendly today. Whether that had anything to do
with being outnumbered was questionable.
The trio spent the evening sipping tea and
talking. Ng was interested in what life was like
where they lived. He couldn't understand why
someone would leave their place of living to come
to such a harsh land.
Bedtime came and the keep turned out the oil
lamp. All slept without incident.
Rising very early, Ng woke the two ladies. "We
go. It early, not much light but we go."
Rising, stretching, grabbing their staves, Mae
and Susan were up and ready to travel.
Once outside they could see the day would be
clear and bright. They manifested some jerky style
of dried meat to chew on while on the trail. All
three of them ate this way.
"If we leave early then by first light we will
be at the canyon. It is a long time in canyon so
we get there early and get through.
The trio walked slowly up the long slope to
the plateau. Once up there it seemed like another
world. The plateau stretched for miles in all
directions. It was flat, rocky, snow covered and
only a few plants were visible. It had a general
downward leaning toward the way the three of them
had come. It took them an hour to traverse the
plateau. By the time they reached the other side
the day was full light.
At the end of the plateau where they now were
the mountains rose abruptly straight up. On all
sides it was as if they were in a cage of rock.
Only the sky was visible, plus the area from which
they had come.
"This is where we must climb down to the
stream. Then we walk in the stream for the rest of
the day." Ng advised them of the next steps.
Knowing where to go he headed to a far corner
where the rock went straight up. Yet there was a
crack in the rock, a large one. The ladies
followed.
Ng got to the edge and looked down into the
crack. It was maybe four feet wide and at the
bottom, what looked like 150 feet or so down, was
the stream they saw yesterday.
Ng began to climb down. As he disappeared the
two ladies, one by one, followed. It was cool and
dark in this area. It was a forboding place. The
ladies felt pinned between two large masses of
mountain. The climb down was almost vertical and
there was snow and ice on the steps they were
trying to use. Mae and Susan both imposed an
artificial environment surrounding all three of
them. They took away all snow and ice and rendered
the temperature warm. That made the climb easier.
Even Ng appreciated that.
The climb down took them over two hours.
Finally they were at the bottom of the crevasse.
The stream was rippling past them as they stood on
a four foot by four foot gravel area that was dry
and at the bottom of the climb. Looking up they
could see only the sky and the sides of the
crevasse.

HA! HA! HA!
A young man called his mother and announced excitedly
that he had just met the woman of his dreams. Now what
should he do?
His mother had an idea: "Why don't you send her
flowers, and on the card
invite her to your place for a home-cooked meal?"
He thought this was a great strategy and arranged a
date for a week later. His mother called the day after
the big date to see how things had gone.
"The evening was a disaster," he moaned.
"Why, didn't she come over?" asked his mother.
"Oh, she came over, but she refused to cook..."
