What is the longest migration among mammals?

This is somewhat of a trick question, as we tend to forget
the biggest mammal, the whale. Gray whales make journeys
of up to 6,000 miles as they travel from their feeding grounds
in Alaska's seas to the warmer water of Baja, California for the
winter. The trip takes about seven weeks.

What is the longest migration among land mammals?

The caribous of the Arctic migrate hundreds of miles between
summer and winter ranges. Some herds make round trips in
excess of 1,500 miles. The herds follow ancient trails made by
generations of their ancestors.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------

Because It Is Don't Make It So!

Most people hate to parallel park.  The other day, I
saw this woman trying to get out of a tight parking
space.  She'd bump the car in front, then back-up and
strike the car behind her.  This went on about 2-3
minutes.

I walked over to see if I could somehow help.  My offer
was declined though.  She said, "Why have bumpers if
you're not going to use them once in a while?"

I've seen this kind of thing, too. It always makes me
wonder what is going on in the mind of the person
involved. There is no logic to this driver's concept
that just because a bumper is there it should be used.

That is like saying that because the "go" button is
there for a missile it should be used, or that because
there is poison in the cupboard it should be used.

The philosophy is one that can lead to trouble.
Remember, just because you are sitting on a tractor
doesn't make you a farmer. Just because you are behind
the wheel of a car doesn't make you a driver.

Stop and look at what you are doing. Become fully aware
of all that is going on around you. Sure the bumper is
there - for your protection - it is not intended to
have dual purposes.

Maybe some of us would do this, especially if we were
in a real tight parking spot. I know that concept, It
is just the words that cause me to become concerned as
the basic premise is wrong. If we go through life where
our basic premise is wrong we will always get wrong
results.

Just because an aircraft is circling an airport does
not mean it is going to land. It only means he can if
he has to or wants to.

So to with your life. Be prepared and be ready, but
don't leap to the wrong conclusions ...

Because It Is Don't Make It So!

Aneurysms
A Leak In Your Circulatory System
PART 4 of 9

HOW IT GETS TO BE THAT WAY? WHAT POSSIBLE CAUSES?

Causes for the weakening of the walls or congenital
occurrences are unknown in many instances. However
in the aortic aneurysms, high blood pressure may be a
factor. And that makes a lot of sense, if you think
about the plaque build-up and then the high constant
pressure exerted on the walls. Defects in some of the
components of the artery wall may be responsible.
Aneurysms aren't always life threatening, but will
often have serious consequences. A brain aneurysm is an
out-pouching or ballooning-out of the wall of this
corridor, again either an artery or a vein in the
brain. Often a wall is weakened by disease, injury, or
a congenital defect. But the more serious damage is
caused by a "ruptured" aneurysm. This then becomes a
surgical emergency. A stroke can result if an aneurysm
bursts in the brain. This is called a hemorrhagic (or
bleeding) stroke. A subarachnoid hemorrhage is
bleeding into the space between the brain (very fragile
soft tissue with thousands of tiny folds) and the skull
(bone cover) but not into the brain itself. This then
puts a lot of pressure ONTO the brain and its sensitive
areas. Remember that the brain is the command center of
the body. If the signal it RECEIVES is distorted
(pressure or incomplete message) the command GOING
BACK to the body may also be inappropriate. When an
artery IN the brain bursts, flooding the surrounding
tissue with blood, it's called a cerebral hemorrhage.
The escaping blood within the brain may cause severe
neurologic complications or death. The size of these
vessels in the brain are relatively small compared
to the large abdominal ones, but the damage is often
much more serious than in a blockage in a vessel of
similar size in an extremity. Always keep in mind that
aneurysms can leak or burst outright.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

"How far will we be in this snow?"

"Hard to say. Sometimes there will be miles of
it and sometimes it be small area."

"I think this was just a small storm, Ng. I
don't think we will have much trouble getting
through our day." Mae winked at him and at Susan.

Ng knew they would be fine.

Sure enough, within a mile they were out of
the deep snow and what skiff remained ahead of
them could be seen to disappear. The walk today
appeared as if it was going to be over rocky
ground all the way. In all the years people had
been using this path none had cleared it. They
simply walked along amongst the rocks.

"We now have 10 days, maybe more to walk in
that direction before we reach the Forbidden
City." Ng informed Mae and Sue.

"That is a long walk. I had no idea it was
that far. Have you ever been south of Lhasa,
toward India?"

"Once my father was but not me. He said trail
the same. There are some passes just as dangerous
as the onces we came through. Snows leave sooner
as you head south."

Mae and Sue were in no particular hurry to go
south. They wanted to spend some time in Lhasa,
first. Neither were they anxious to reach Lhasa,
at least not to keep up the pace Ng was leading.

"Ng, slow down. We have lots of time."

"I do not. I must meet Lang Tsu back at camp.
By the time I get there it will be two months,
maybe longer. I want to trade some and then
leave."

"How would you like us to take you back to
camp? That would save you much time and effort."

"I don't understand." Ng spoke with a question
in his voice.

"Susan and I can travel a much faster and
different way, and we can take you with us if you
would like. We can take you back to camp just in
time to meet Lang Tsu."

"Miss Mae, if you can travel a different way,
why do you not do it now?"

"Because, Ng, we wanted to see the mountains
and to walk them the same as every other man,
woman or child. It is possible for us to travel
around the world but we came to China to walk it
and meet the people. That is what we are doing. If
we travel our way then we miss the people. We have
enjoyed meeting you and your family and we would
have missed that if we had traveled our way."

"That make sense. Yes, I will travel your way.
So I slow down. I want to be back at camp in time
to meet Lang Tsu."

Ng had learned early on to trust Mae and Sue.
The fight he had with Mae that night in the small
village when he went for help showed him she was a
woman of remarkable power. He also knew she cared
about him and his family. He trusted her
completely.

With Ng having agreed to go slower they then
decided to sit down and have a bite to eat. It was
near noon and they had been on the trail for
six hours, some of it in the dark.

"We can keep up with you Ng. However, this is
beautiful land and we want to see it, absorb it,
appreciate it. We will not be this way often,
maybe never, and we want to take our time."

"You crazy white ladies." Ng laughed. "This
land kill, fast. You best treat it aggressively if
you want to survive."

They all laughed. For man, Ng was right. But
for Mae and Susan their way was right.

Out of the snow and into the sun with the
trail mostly down hill and no further obstacles
the trio moved with an easy gait. It was not so
tiring and permitted Mae and Susan to really take
in the scene the Himalayas presented. That changed
with every mile. This was rugged land. No one
lived up here but for the keeps at the rest
areas. The only other people you would see were
travelers. And there were not many of those.

By nightfall they stopped early and set up
camp, such as it was. It really meant they sat
down in a comfortable spot as they could find. It
had to be large enough to allow them to lay down.

They had their evening camp fire and by nine
in the evening they were all down and asleep.

The following day was clear and bright. Even
though the temperatures were cold you could stand
and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. It
was a refreshing time.

"One day soon we come to Chinese soldiers
outpost. They not like travelers to go past. Some
they turn back. If they see you and know you they
let you pass. They not want foreigners in city.
You dress up to look like Mongol women and they
let you pass. I let you know when."

That was an interesting situation. There must
be political reasons why the government did not
want outsiders in Lhasa. Mae and Susan would have
to behave as natives and not as two white ladies
on a vacation. They must be careful to obey all
the customs and laws. Ng was a good guide.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"We can have it all, but not at the same time." -?
Patricia Fripp

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

The beautiful young blonde goes to a soda machine at
Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She arrives just before
a businessman.

She opens her purse and put in 50 cents, pushes a Diet
Pepsi button, and out comes a Diet Pepsi.

She puts it on a counter by the machine and reaches
back into her purse.

She pulls out a dollar and puts it in the machine.
Studying the machine carefully, she pushes the button
for Dr. Pepper and out comes a Dr. Pepper and 50 cents
change.

She takes the 50 cents change and puts it in the
machine, pushes the Lipton Iced Tea button, and out
comes a Lipton's Iced Tea.

As she reaches into her purse again, the businessman
who has been waiting patiently for several minutes
says, "Excuse me, but are you done yet?"

She looks at him and indignantly replies,
"Well Duhhh!!! I'm still winning."
